Chapter 306 - 307: Blame
Yesterday, before she left, Chloe Sinclair told everyone to get some proper rest and not to overtrain.
However, one of the athletes with below-average test scores wanted to have a breakthrough before the reserve list for the Winter Games was finalized, so she got up at four in the morning to put in extra practice.
Extra training was a good thing, but you couldn’t be too eager for quick results.
Just as Chloe Sinclair arrived at the gate, she noticed the entrance to the training center was open.
Following her memory from yesterday, she walked inside and saw a girl on the empty indoor track, clutching her knees and screaming in pain.
There was no one around, so no one heard her cries for help.
Chloe Sinclair hesitated for less than half a second before rushing over to check on the situation.
As she drew near, Chloe Sinclair smelled the thick scent of blood.
’Eight, scan her vitals.’
"You got it!"
In less than three seconds, Eight reported, "Hemorrhaging from a leg spasm, accompanied by a bone fracture."
"Sigh. And after they were told not to train extra. Why did she have to be so stubborn?"
Chloe Sinclair: "Shut up."
Eight immediately fell silent, letting out a small, wounded "oh."
Chloe Sinclair, now with a general idea of the girl’s injuries, quickly tried to figure out how to handle the situation.
"Eight, call an ambulance first. Then, tell Coach Young and the others to come over."
’It’s almost eight o’clock. People should be arriving soon.’
She wasn’t a professional doctor, knowing only basic first aid. In this situation, Chloe Sinclair could only follow Eight’s instructions to immobilize the athlete’s leg.
She recognized the injured athlete.
Her name was Mia Warren, and she was a year younger than Chloe.
She wasn’t one of the top athletes at the training center. Chloe figured she must have seen how effective her targeted training was yesterday and snuck over for some extra practice.
But an accident had happened. Not only did she get a spasm while running, but she’d also fallen and fractured her leg.
"Eight, with an injury like this, can Mia still participate in this year’s Winter Games?"
"Host, you must be joking!"
If Eight had fur, Chloe could imagine it all standing on end as it said that.
Before she could even speak, Eight interrupted, "It’s a fracture! To recover completely, she’ll need good food and at least three months of rest. By then, the Winter Games will be over."
Chloe Sinclair felt it was a pity.
But looking at Mia Warren lying on the ground, completely beside herself, Chloe Sinclair tried to comfort her anyway. "Don’t worry, there’s still some time before the Winter Games. Just rest up, and I’m sure you’ll be able to compete."
Mia Warren, who had been clutching her leg and sobbing, stopped crying for a moment when she heard this.
But her expression as she looked at Chloe Sinclair was strange.
Suddenly, she slapped Chloe Sinclair’s hand away.
Chloe Sinclair could have dodged, but she realized it would likely injure Mia further. So she took the hit, stumbling and landing on the floor with a baffled expression.
But Mia Warren paid her no mind. Enduring the pain, she dragged her leg and pulled herself up to a sitting position. Her eyes filled with hatred, she practically spat the words through gritted teeth: "This is all because of you!"
Chloe Sinclair was even more baffled. "Because of me? What?"
Seeing Chloe Sinclair’s innocent expression, Mia Warren burst out laughing. "’Because of me, what?’ You really don’t know?"
"I’m eighteen this year, but I’ve been at this training center for twelve years! Call me untalented, but I’ve managed to stay here for twelve years. I was picked from a pool of thirty-eight thousand athletes!"
"But if I’m so talented, then why haven’t I won a single championship in these twelve years?!"
"Why give me a ray of hope just when I was about to give up?!"
