CLATTER—

Chloe Sinclair stared blankly, the fork in her hand dropping directly into her bowl of noodle soup.

She blinked rapidly, as if she still couldn’t process what had happened, and only then realized she hadn’t been hearing things.

Jasper Shaw walked into the kitchen, scanned his surroundings, and asked, "Where’s the fridge?"

Chloe, as if waking from a dream, quickly said, "Ou-outside!"

With that, she headed straight for the refrigerator.

Jasper turned and followed.

The apartment’s refrigerator was short and small. Given Jasper’s height, he had to bend down to look inside.

Chloe watched from the side as Jasper took out a few eggs and some tomatoes from the fridge.

The contents of the refrigerator were sent over daily by people on Gabriel Sinclair’s orders.

However, Chloe rarely cooked, so the refrigerator had barely ever been opened.

Jasper rooted around and found a few more things in the fridge, then headed straight for the kitchen.

Chloe followed behind him with small steps. When she entered, she saw Jasper had already started washing vegetables and boiling water in an orderly fashion.

Still in a state of shock, she couldn’t help but ask, "You’re going to cook?"

Hearing this, Jasper tilted his head slightly. Seeing the un-wiped splash of soup at the corner of Chloe’s mouth, a hint of resignation flashed in his eyes. "Instant noodles are bad for you. If you’re busy, I can come over and cook for you every day."

Chloe felt a little embarrassed. "No, it’s okay. You’re usually so busy. I can take care of myself."

The truth was, she knew how to cook, and she was pretty good at it, too.

Her adoptive parents had certainly forced her to learn back in the day.

Thinking of her adoptive parents, Chloe’s gaze darkened as she suddenly remembered something.

’In early December, those adoptive parents of mine will probably be coming over after getting news from Nina Sinclair.’

"What’s wrong?"

Jasper suddenly noticed the young woman’s fair face turn cold and felt a flicker of confusion.

"It’s nothing. I was just thinking about some things from the past." A gentle smile instantly appeared on Chloe’s face, making it seem as if her earlier gloomy expression had just been Jasper’s imagination.

Jasper’s eyes lingered on Chloe for a few moments before he finally looked away.

He held out his hand, offering two tomatoes. "Wash these."

"Okay."

Chloe nodded hurriedly.

Half an hour later, Jasper had prepared two dishes and a soup.

A plate of stir-fried pork with green peppers, a serving of shredded potatoes, and a bowl of tomato and egg soup.

Chloe’s eyes went wide when she saw the spread.

"I never knew my boyfriend was so multi-talented."

Chloe dished out a bowl of rice for Jasper, a small smile on her face. "Thank you for your hard work."

"It was no trouble."

Jasper thought for a moment, then added, "I’ll come cook for you often from now on."

Chloe paused in the middle of eating. "Aren’t you usually very busy with work?"

It wasn’t that she didn’t want Jasper to cook for her, but as the wealthiest man in the country, her boyfriend was swamped with work every day.

"I’m the boss."

Chloe understood what he meant.

Her boyfriend was saying that since he was the boss of the company, he decided when he got off work.

Chloe couldn’t help but let out a laugh, a hint of amused resignation in her voice.

"Alright, but don’t let it get in the way of your work or rest."

Noticing the dark circles under Jasper’s eyes, she couldn’t help but ask, "Have you been really busy with work lately? I have to go to class in a bit. Why don’t you rest here for a while?"

Jasper’s first instinct was to refuse, but seeing the concern in the young woman’s eyes, the words died on his lips and he changed his mind.

After they finished eating, Chloe led Jasper to her bedroom.

"The bed’s a little small, so you’ll have to make do. You can go to work after you’ve had enough rest."

Chloe instructed as she tidied up the things on her bed.

But after waiting for a while without getting a response from Jasper, Chloe couldn’t help but turn back and ask, "What’s wrong?"
