Chapter 412 - 216: Doing a Good Deed Along the Way
Su Chen followed the direction the man was pointing and saw a pale-faced woman in a floral dress. Trickles of fresh blood were running down her leg, and a small pool had already formed on the ground.
Seeing the situation, Su Chen immediately got out of the passenger seat and shouted, "Quick, get your wife in the car!"
The man hadn’t expected Su Chen to agree so readily. He quickly turned and swept his wife up in a princess carry.
When he saw the clean back seats, he hesitated for a moment. ’What if the blood soaks into the upholstery?’
Chen Fei saw the man’s hesitation and knew exactly what he was thinking. He gave him a light push and said, "Don’t just stand there, get in! Don’t worry about getting the car dirty."
"Thank you, brother!" the man said gratefully. He quickly placed his wife in the car, closed the door, and then got in from the other side.
Chen Fei had already found the nearest major hospital on his phone. Once everyone was in, he flipped on the hazard lights and floored it, running two red lights and getting the couple to the hospital in under five minutes.
"Doctor! She’s hemorrhaging!" The moment the car stopped, Su Chen threw open the door, ran into the emergency room, and yelled.
The next moment, two nurses and a doctor came running out with a gurney. Seeing the woman who had just been carried from the car, the two nurses took her, placed her on the gurney, and rushed her inside.
Seeing his wife in the care of the medical staff, the man breathed a sigh of relief. He turned and saw the large bloodstain on the back seat. He quickly took out some tissues and tried to wipe up the excess to keep it from soaking into the upholstery.
"Sir, how much for a car wash? I’ll pay you!" the man said, pulling out his phone to transfer money to Su Chen.
Su Chen also breathed a sigh of relief, not for any other reason than that the woman hadn’t started bleeding profusely during the ride over.
He knew just how terrifying a major hemorrhage could be—the blood would just gush out like an open faucet.
He pulled a pack of cigarettes from his pocket, lit one, and took a drag to calm his nerves.
Hearing the man offer him money, Su Chen gave a faint smile and waved his hand. "Don’t worry about the money. It’s no big deal. I’ll just get it cleaned later. You should go take care of your wife."
With that, Su Chen gestured with his chin. "Look, the doctor’s looking for you. Go on!"
The man glanced into the emergency room and saw a doctor indeed walking quickly toward them. At the sight, the man stamped his foot in urgency, gave Su Chen a quick, grateful bow with clasped hands, and then ran inside.
Su Chen stubbed out his nearly finished cigarette, tossed it in a nearby trash can, and shot a look at Chen Fei. Just as he pulled open the car door to get in, a motorcycle cop pulled up behind them.
He made a point of looking at their license plate, and after confirming it, he walked toward them.
After saluting, the motorcycle cop said, "Hello, can I see your driver’s licenses and IDs, please?"
Su Chen guessed this was because Chen Fei had run those two red lights. ’But why is he asking me for my license and ID?’
"I don’t need to, do I? I wasn’t driving."
The officer was taken aback for a moment. He had only asked out of habit. His reason for being here was the red-light violation, and he’d already guessed they were rushing a patient to the hospital or something similar. Of course, he still had to confirm the details before making a final decision.
The officer didn’t insist on seeing Su Chen’s ID. After checking Chen Fei’s documents and asking a few questions, he even took a few photos of the bloodstain in the back seat.
"Thank you for your cooperation. We’ll take care of the red-light issue. Again, thank you both for being good samaritans!" After speaking, the officer saluted Su Chen and Chen Fei again.
Su Chen smiled and nodded in return, but Chen Fei straightened his back and returned a crisp salute.
The officer was taken aback for a second by Chen Fei’s impeccably formal posture. After a moment, he smiled at the two of them, got on his motorcycle, and left.
"Look at you, Mr. Formal," Su Chen teased, looking at Chen Fei still standing ramrod straight.
Chen Fei’s serious posture broke in an instant. He chuckled, saying with a hint of pride, "Heh heh... well, we did a good deed. Of course I’m happy!"
Su Chen rolled his eyes at Chen Fei, then opened the car door and got in. "Alright, let’s find a place for a late-night snack. I’ll even reward you by letting you eat a little extra!"
"Sir, you said it! I just found a really good seafood place nearby on my phone. How about we go there?"
"Fine. You can eat your fill."
With a roar of its engine, the Mercedes G-Wagen slowly pulled out of the hospital parking lot and merged into the flow of traffic.
