Chapter 411 - 216: Doing a Good Deed in Passing
Plus, with many of the extras and minor characters basically playing themselves, the filming progressed at an incredible pace. It felt like the golden age of Xiangjiang films from twenty years ago; shooting wrapped up in less than a month.
After a pause, Su Chen went on to detail the difficulties Wu Jing was facing. By now, Si Cong and the others pretty much understood why Su Chen had sought them out.
The people in the group chat all had connections in the entertainment and film industries, especially Deng Chao, Chen He, and Chen Feiyu.
Needless to say, Deng Chao was an A-list movie star, and on top of that, he had a Magnolia award-winning "empress" at home.
Chen He’s family was no less impressive, filled with either major directors or famous composers, and he had plenty of friends in the industry.
As for Chen Feiyu, that brought up his family, the Chen family of Xiangjiang. They had built their fortune on luxury goods, so naturally, everyone in the Xiangjiang film industry had dealings with them. Many big shots had risen with their support.
The group immediately took the matter upon themselves. They all moved in these circles, so they knew a premiere was a matter of face for the entire cast and crew. It had to be a well-supported event.
Deng Chao and Chen He, in particular, were already running through mental lists, their minds racing as they considered who would be suitable to attend such an event. At the very least, they had to be well-known figures in the industry—A-listers, minimum.
If they invited second or even third-tier celebrities, it would just lower the prestige for Su Chen and the others.
"I’ll leave the arrangements to you. If you need to contact Wu Jing, just go through Si Cong."
’As one of the investors, Si Cong has to pull his weight,’ Su Chen thought. ’Even I’ve gotten personally involved, so he can’t just stand by and watch, can he?’
Si Cong didn’t say much, simply agreeing to it. He made a point to add a word of caution to Deng Chao and Chen He: don’t even consider anyone in the industry with a problematic reputation, even if they were A-list or a top superstar.
Deng Chao and Chen He were taken aback for a moment, but they quickly seemed to realize something and nodded in understanding.
After chatting with everyone for a few more minutes, Su Chen ended the video call.
He tossed his phone aside, flopped onto the sofa, and let out a yawn as a wave of sleepiness washed over him.
Su Chen planned to take a short nap. After several hours of strolling around and eating so much good food, his body was naturally feeling tired.
But who would have thought his nap would last so long? Chen Fei came by a few times, only to find Su Chen still asleep on each occasion, and sleeping very soundly at that.
With no other choice, Chen Fei could only wait for Su Chen to wake up on his own.
「In the blink of an eye, it was evening.」 The sun was setting, its last rays casting a warm glow on Su Chen’s face. Feeling the warmth, Su Chen slowly stirred from his sleep.
"Yawn..." Su Chen stretched. Catching sight of the sunset outside the window, he froze for a second, his mind instantly clearing.
He quickly sat up on the sofa and saw Chen Fei sitting at a nearby table, eating something. He had a look of pure enjoyment on his face, nodding every so often as if in praise of the delicious food.
Chen Fei saw that Su Chen was awake and hurriedly put down what he was holding. He grabbed a napkin, gave his mouth and hands a quick wipe, and trotted over.
"Sir, you’re awake!" Chen Fei said with his head lowered, looking embarrassed like someone who’d just been caught sneaking food.
Su Chen was about to ask what time it was when he caught a faint, savory aroma. It smelled particularly good, the kind of scent that whets your appetite.
The question on the tip of his tongue changed. He furrowed his brow and asked, "What delicious thing were you just sneaking, kid?"
"Hehe~ This afternoon, I saw you were sleeping soundly, Sir. Since we’re heading back to Shanghai today, I went out and bought some soy-braised pressed duck. I couldn’t resist trying a bit... it’s really good."
As he spoke, Chen Fei immediately brought over the package of soy-braised pressed duck he had opened. Su Chen wasn’t a germaphobe; he tore off a duck leg and started eating.
The flavor of the soy-braised pressed duck made Su Chen’s eyes light up. In just a few bites, only a bone was left of the duck leg.
Su Chen nodded in satisfaction. "It’s really good. How much did you buy?"
"I bought twenty packs of the soy-braised pressed duck and also got five saltwater ducks vacuum-sealed."
"Uh..." Su Chen hadn’t expected Chen Fei to buy so much. ’It seems the ducks of Jinling have captured a new foodie,’ he thought.
Not dwelling on the matter, the two of them finished the soy-braised pressed duck on the table, quickly washed up and packed, and then checked out of the hotel.
It was already six in the evening. They figured they would get back to Wudu around ten at night.
Unfortunately, reality was harsher than their plans. The moment Su Chen and the others left the hotel, they discovered the roads were anything but clear. Just getting from the city center to the highway took nearly an hour.
The traffic was absolutely brutal!
They hurried along the whole way, but by the time they got off the highway in Putuo, it was already ten o’clock at night.
"Sigh... we finally made it. Slow down and let’s find an open-air food stall for a late-night snack before heading back." Although they had both eaten a lot before leaving, they were feeling a bit hungry after several hours on the road.
Chen Fei was about to nod in agreement when he saw a man on the side of the road waving frantically at them. It looked like he was about to jump out and block the car, so Chen Fei immediately slowed down.
Su Chen, sitting in the passenger seat, naturally saw this too. He rolled down the window and looked at the man. "What’s the matter?"
When the man saw the car stop, a flash of excitement crossed his anxious face. He pointed to a woman leaning on the railing by the road and said, "Sir, can you please help us? My wife is showing signs of a hemorrhage, we can’t get a taxi, and the ambulance won’t be here anytime soon!"
