Chapter 418 - 218: Someone’s Missing?
"Ahem... An authentic Jinling specialty. They’re absolutely delicious!" A hint of embarrassment flashed in Su Chen’s eyes. ’For someone of my stature to just give a few ducks as a gift... I must be one of a kind.’
"Boss, I... I really have to thank you." Pei Rang could only accept the local specialties with tears in his eyes.
After all, Jinling wasn’t far from Shanghai, and you could buy this stuff in plenty of places there. Pei Rang wanted to say so, but he didn’t have the heart to refuse Su Chen’s kind gesture.
"Alright, alright, don’t look so glum. Once the group’s integration is complete, I’ll treat you all to a meal. I’ll even bring out the good wine I’ve been saving in the Imperial Capital to celebrate with you!"
Hearing this, a huge smile spread across Pei Rang’s face. Any wine Su Chen considered part of his private collection couldn’t possibly be ordinary.
After watching Pei Rang step into the elevator, Su Chen turned to Chen Fei, who was standing beside him. "Did he take all of it?"
"We loaded it all up for President Pei!"
Both Su Chen and Chen Fei had eaten quite a bit of it over the past two days. The initial novelty had worn off; now, just the sight of a duck was enough to kill their appetites.
"Good enough."
With that, Su Chen walked over to the armchair he’d been sitting in earlier. He had just sat down when the phone on the table began to ring.
He glanced at the caller ID and saw it was Sicong. He picked up his phone and answered.
"Hey, Sicong. What’s up?"
"You mentioned the premiere a couple of days ago, right? I was just calling to ask when you’re flying to the Imperial Capital. I just got back to Shanghai today, so I was thinking we could go together."
"The premiere..." Su Chen glanced at the time. That was the day after tomorrow. He would definitely have to meet with Wu Jing beforehand.
After a moment’s thought, Su Chen checked the time again. It was already past eleven. "This afternoon. Let’s meet at Hong Bridge Airport at two p.m."
"Alright. See you this afternoon!" With that, Sicong hung up.
Su Chen thought for a moment while holding his phone, then opened WeChat and sent a message to his seven-person group chat. He asked everyone to get together tomorrow in the Imperial Capital, at his place, of course.
Soon, Qin Fen, Chen Feiyu, and the others all replied with confirmations.
Seeing their replies, Su Chen tossed his phone onto the table and went back to enjoying the gentle breeze.
He had just closed his eyes when he remembered something and shot up from the sofa.
"Sir, what’s wrong?" Chen Fei, who had been playing on his phone nearby, saw Su Chen’s sudden movement and immediately rushed over.
"Where did Jiang Hui go?" Su Chen asked, looking bewildered.
He remembered that when he’d gone back to Wudu, he had specifically left Jiang Hui behind in Shanghai. But since his return, there had been no sign of Jiang Hui at home.
It was only when Su Chen thought about tomorrow night’s get-together and wanted to have Jiang Hui make the arrangements that he realized Jiang Hui was nowhere to be found.
Chen Fei quickly pulled out his own phone, found Jiang Hui’s number, and called him.
The moment the call went through, Chen Fei felt like he’d stopped breathing. ’If the call doesn’t connect, does that mean something happened to Jiang Hui?’
To his surprise, Jiang Hui answered the phone instantly.
Hearing that familiar voice, Chen Fei hurriedly asked where he was.
"What? Is it serious?"
"Okay, I understand. I’ll tell Sir!" With that, Chen Fei hung up.
"Did something happen to Jiang Hui?" Su Chen had been standing nearby and hadn’t heard everything clearly, only that someone was injured.
Chen Fei shook his head, his expression strange. "Steward Jiang is fine. It was Aunt Tang... something happened to her."
"Hm? Aunt Tang? Tell me, what exactly happened." Su Chen’s face also showed a flicker of astonishment. He never would have expected trouble back in the Imperial Capital.
"Ahem... It’s nothing too serious. Aunt Tang was taking Yuanbao out for a walk and ran into a poodle that wasn’t on a leash. For some reason, Yuanbao and the poodle started fighting."
"Then the poodle’s owner—oh, I guess she calls herself its ’mommy’—showed up and started arguing with Aunt Tang. She probably heard Aunt Tang’s accent and realized she wasn’t from the Imperial Capital, so she started in with all sorts of insults."
"Aunt Tang is no pushover, so she fired right back, leaving the other woman speechless. Then, somehow, the argument escalated into a physical fight."
"In the scuffle, Aunt Tang accidentally sprained her ankle. And since she doesn’t know anyone else in the Imperial Capital, she had to call Steward Jiang to handle the situation."
"That’s the gist of it. Steward Jiang didn’t say on the phone how it was resolved."
Su Chen nodded upon hearing the story. ’It probably wasn’t anything serious,’ he thought. ’Otherwise, Jiang Hui would have called me. This must be something he can handle himself.’
"Make the arrangements. We’re heading back to the Imperial Capital this afternoon."
