Chapter 405 - 214: The Battle of Jinling McDonald’s
Su Chen and Chen Fei had no intention of making a spectacle of themselves. They found a quiet corner and, in two trips, brought all their food over.
"Mmm, this is definitely way better than Wallace’s. No wonder they can charge so much!" Su Chen said, swallowing a McNugget.
"Mmm, it’s so good. I guess you could say it’s a childhood dream come true."
Chen Fei held a grilled chicken sandwich, feeling a wave of emotion. His family had been poor. Forget about eating a chicken sandwich—he’d never even seen a McDonald’s back in his rural hometown.
He had gone straight into the army after high school. After his discharge, he was constantly running missions abroad. He never had the chance to just wander around and enjoy some good food. It was a life he could never have imagined before.
It was only after he started following Su Chen that he got this kind of opportunity.
A McDonald’s might not be anything special, but Su Chen and Chen Fei were incredibly happy as they ate, making up for what they had missed in the past.
"Huaxia people are such idiots!"
Su Chen was having the time of his life, a chicken sandwich in his left hand and a McFlurry in his right, when a dog-like bark from some Japanese men came from the ordering counter.
Hearing the Japanese words, Su Chen’s brow furrowed instantly. He understood they were calling Huaxia people idiots.
Su Chen looked toward the ordering counter. Three men, barely over five-foot-three, were yelling at the cashier in Japanese. The cashier obviously couldn’t understand what they were saying.
Perhaps because they knew the cashier couldn’t understand, the three Japanese men spewed even more insults, lewd grins plastered on their faces. One of them even put his hands on his hips and began thrusting his pelvis back and forth toward the employee.
Because the three of them were so short, the high counter completely blocked their disgusting display from the cashier’s view.
However, the customers in the dining area saw the whole thing. They all frowned, and a few had already taken out their phones and started filming.
Su Chen immediately stood up and walked toward the counter. Seeing this, Chen Fei quickly downed a few sips of his soda and hurried to follow.
Before Su Chen could even get close, several young men who looked like college students surrounded them.
"You motherfucking Japs!" a tall college student roared in fluent Japanese. "You’d better watch your goddamn mouth! Don’t fucking assume we can’t understand your dog-speak!"
The three Japanese men hadn’t expected anyone in a McDonald’s to understand Japanese, and for a moment, they were too stunned to react.
The leader of the group saw the looks he was getting from the crowd—looks filled with scorn and contempt. He imagined they must think he was intimidated by the tall student.
Humiliation quickly turned to anger. He was about to speak, but then he seemed to think of something, and a smug smile spread across his face.
He scanned the crowd before his gaze landed contemptuously on the tall student. "You Huaxia people are all cowards," he sneered. "My grandfather came to Jinling decades ago, too. Back then, you people were just like a pack of d—"
Before he could finish his sentence, the tall student lashed out, a vicious kick sending the Japanese man flying backward into his two companions.
"You motherfucking Japs!" the tall student roared as he charged the three men who were scrambling back to their feet. "I’ll fuck you up! Your grandpa came to Jinling decades ago, huh?! Well today, I, your ancestor, am going to teach you a goddamn lesson!"
Hearing this, the people around them, especially the other college students who had been with the tall young man, surged forward with faces full of rage.
Everyone knew what Jinling had gone through decades ago. When this bastard said his grandfather had come here, no one had to guess what he meant.
The crowd erupted in a fury. Many of the onlookers joined in on punishing the "thugs."
Watching this unfold, Su Chen’s eyes flickered. He called Chen Fei over, whispered a few words in his ear, and the two of them split up, heading in different directions.
Arriving at the counter, Su Chen saw the McDonald’s manager just coming out from the back. The manager was about to go and break up the fight; after all, if something like this happened in his store, he would be held responsible.
"You’re the manager, right?" Su Chen asked, looking at the man in the McDonald’s uniform with a "Manager" name tag on his chest.
The man looked at Su Chen and nodded, a bit confused.
Su Chen immediately slung an arm around the manager’s shoulder and said softly, "You heard what they said just now. Aren’t you pissed off?"
"Of course I’m pissed off! If I weren’t the manager of this place, I’d have gone up there and given those sons of bitches a couple of kicks myself!"
As a manager who had lived in Jinling for so many years and had visited the memorial hall, he naturally knew the tragic history behind it all.
Seeing the manager’s furious expression, Su Chen nodded slightly. ’He’s still got some fire in him.’ Then, he whispered a few more words into the manager’s ear.
The expression on the manager’s face slowly changed from anger to astonishment. He looked at Su Chen in shock.
"Alright! I’ll go do it right away!" With that, the manager hurried off into the back.
Su Chen watched the raging brawl. Out of the corner of his eye, he glanced at the security cameras on the ceiling and saw their indicator lights suddenly go dark. He knew the manager had done his part.
The three Japanese men were being beaten so badly they were crying for their mothers. They just wanted to escape the McDonald’s, but when they finally stumbled and crawled their way to the entrance, they found it locked. A man stood on the other side, giving them two middle fingers.
