Chapter 250 - 160: Matter Concluded
After dinner, the three of them chatted for a while. Su Chen urged Professor Wu and his friend to sort out their own affairs as soon as possible.
He told them that if they ran into any unsolvable problems, they should call him right away to handle it and not waste time on red tape.
Around one-thirty in the afternoon, Su Chen announced he had to leave. His flight was scheduled for three, and it would take an hour just to get to the airport. Any further delay meant he might not get back to the Imperial Capital until the next day.
Watching Su Chen and Chen Fei drive away, the old man turned to Professor Wu beside him and asked, "Old Wu, do you think we made the right decision?"
Professor Wu didn’t answer immediately. His mind went back to the documentation Su Chen had shown him. In addition to the 10nm chip, it also mentioned 7nm and 5nm chips.
The 5nm-class chip, in particular, was only mentioned in passing. However, he could tell that all these different classes of chips were part of a cohesive system. This meant that as long as they could thoroughly understand the 10nm chip, they could gradually figure out the others.
He also suspected that Su Chen already had mature technology on hand, but he was simply reluctant to believe Su Chen could possess the entire suite of technologies.
Snapping out of his thoughts, Professor Wu patted his old friend’s shoulder. "Don’t worry," he said. "One day, you’ll thank yourself for the decision you made today."
"Alright, you should wrap up and hand over your work as soon as possible. I need to go poach some talent for Mr. Su." With that, Professor Wu turned and headed for the hallway.
The old man stood there in silence for a moment before muttering to himself, ’Since the decision’s been made, there’s no use in having second thoughts. I’d better start thinking about how to poach a few people to help out.’
......
「Imperial Capital, Courtyard Residence!」
"Whoa, Brother Cheen, how’d you get here so fast?" As soon as Su Chen stepped into the main courtyard, he saw Xiao Chen lounging on the recliner, playing on his phone.
After landing at the Imperial Capital airport, Su Chen had sent Xiao Chen a text letting him know he was back, and he had also casually asked how the security arrangements were coming along.
Xiao Chen glanced at Su Chen walking in, followed by Chen Fei who was laden with bags. He pouted and said grumpily, "Eldest Young Master Su gave the order himself. How could I dare not to get a move on?"
Hearing that, Su Chen guessed that Xiao Chen had probably gotten an earful from Elder Xiao. He pulled a stool over, sat down next to him, and offered him a cigarette from his case. "Piss off the old man again?"
"It’s all because of that carton of cigarettes you gave me! The old man found them as soon as I got back. He thought I was the one who put you up to swiping his stuff. Not only did he chew me out, he confiscated the cigarettes!"
"So you tell me, don’t I have a right to be pissed?" Xiao Chen shot Su Chen a gloomy look.
Su Chen knew exactly what he was getting at—Xiao Chen wanted him to make things right.
"Alright, alright. Just take another carton with you when you leave. That should do it, right?"
At those words, the gloom on Xiao Chen’s face vanished instantly. He grinned and clapped Su Chen on the arm. "You’re a true brother."
"By the way, weren’t you on a recruitment trip? How come you’re back already?" Xiao Chen was a little curious. Logically, a trip like that should have taken Su Chen at least a week, but he had returned in just three or four days.
"Business is done, so of course I came back!" Su Chen said, a hint of smugness in his voice.
Xiao Chen was stunned and immediately asked for the whole story. When he found out that Su Chen had actually tasked Professor Wu with poaching talent for him, he was thoroughly impressed. Su Chen was a real sly dog.
"Anyway, I came over today to tell you something. Those security personnel you mentioned? They’ve all arrived. When do you have some free time to go take a look?"
"Huh? They’ve all arrived? That was fast. Didn’t you say it would take two weeks?" Su Chen hadn’t expected Xiao Chen to move so quickly.
"All it took was one phone call from the old man."
Su Chen hadn’t expected Elder Xiao to concern himself with such a minor detail. He thought for a moment before asking, "Where are they now?"
"The usual place. The training camp in the suburbs."
