Chapter 251 - 161: These Benefits Are Just Too Good
Early the next morning, Su Chen had Chen Fei drive him straight to the training camp in the suburbs.
He had only learned from Xiao Chen the day before that none of the hundred men were conscripts who had served the minimum two years. They all had at least five years of service under their belts.
The vast majority were veterans from special forces units. Considering the classified technology involved at Su Chen’s industrial park, these men had been carefully handpicked, and each possessed a unique skill set.
Skills like electronic information systems and mechanical repair were practically tailor-made for the park’s operations, eliminating the need to hire additional specialists in those fields.
Su Chen was quite surprised by this. After all, talented veterans like these could easily find good jobs after leaving the service. For them to give up stable employment to become security guards, taking on a job with an uncertain future, was unexpected.
That dedication alone was worthy of respect. It was why Su Chen had come to the training camp so early—he wanted to put their minds at ease and assure them they wouldn’t have to worry about providing for their families.
Now that they were working for him, he certainly wouldn’t let them down.
As the car slowly pulled into the training camp, they could hear waves of encouragement and cheers coming from the training field.
"They seem pretty energetic."
Su Chen glanced at the time. It was just past nine in the morning.
Chen Fei immediately guessed what was going on. "Sounds like a sparring match," he explained quickly. "They’re probably going up against the camp’s regulars. Sir, should we go take a look?"
Su Chen nodded, and the two of them headed toward the training field.
Sure enough, from the stands overlooking the field, they saw everyone gathered in a circle. Inside it, two men were locked in combat, fighting with an intensity that made Su Chen wince just watching.
"Are your internal competitions always this fierce?" Su Chen asked, turning to Chen Fei.
To an outsider, it would have looked like the two men in the center of the ring had a personal grudge. Every punch landed with brutal force.
"This is nothing, Sir," Chen Fei said. "Back in the day, during our major internal competitions, if you didn’t walk away with a broken nose, a swollen face, or a fractured bone, it meant you weren’t giving it your all!"
A scene like this was child’s play to Chen Fei, just a basic part of combat training. He knew from deep experience that the more you bleed in training, the less you bleed in battle.
Su Chen nodded. Just then, a loud cheer erupted from the field as the match came to an end. The man in the training camp uniform had locked his opponent in a cross armbar, securing the win.
Once the cheering died down, Su Chen instructed Chen Fei to gather everyone.
Chen Fei, having procured a whistle from somewhere, walked to the edge of the stands and blew a sharp blast, followed by a thunderous roar: "Fall in!"
Standing behind him, Su Chen was taken aback. He’d never expected the normally mild-mannered Chen Fei to have such a ferocious side.
At the sound of the whistle, everyone on the field reacted instantly, running toward the stands without a second thought. In less than a minute, they were all standing in formation.
Su Chen glanced from side to side. The formation was a perfect line, whether viewed from the front or the side.
’One word: Professional!’
"Training camp personnel, fall out!"
With a sharp, unified stamp of boots, the single formation split neatly into two.
Once the groups were separated, Chen Fei dismissed the training camp personnel to other training areas. The remaining men were the security team sent by Xiao Chen.
Their eyes all turned to Su Chen and Chen Fei on the stands. They had likely already guessed who Su Chen was, and their gazes were appraising.
Chen Fei acted as if he didn’t notice their stares. He scanned the group, then barked another command, "You’ll form squads of ten! Select your own squad leaders. Those will be your teams from now on."
After speaking, he glanced at Su Chen, as if asking if he had anything to add. Su Chen, of course, did not. He had already briefed Chen Fei on everything on the way over.
’Chen Fei is in charge of getting the security company off the ground, after all. If I interfere now, it’ll undermine his authority.’
A murmur of discussion broke out among the men below. Chen Fei, on the stands, said nothing. How else were they supposed to choose their leaders if not by discussing it?
As for Su Chen, he gave Chen Fei a nod and headed inside to rest.
The discussions lasted less than two minutes before the men fell silent. Chen Fei looked at the ten men now standing in the front row—the newly chosen squad leaders.
With Su Chen gone, Chen Fei no longer suppressed his aura. As someone who had walked the line between life and death, his gaze was more than most people could handle.
As Chen Fei’s sharp gaze swept over the ten squad leaders, each man felt as if he were staring down the dark barrel of a gun. An involuntary chill ran through them.
Only then did they realize how terrifying the unassuming man on the stands truly was. They had been elite soldiers in their former units, but they had never seen real combat. In terms of presence, they couldn’t hold a candle to Chen Fei.
"Squad leaders, step forward! Your destination is the meeting room on the second floor of the small building. The rest of you, hold a military stance for half an hour!"
With that, Chen Fei turned and walked toward the building. The ten squad leaders, snapping out of their stupor, quickly jogged to keep up.
