Chapter 184 - 137: Showdown! It Was Me, Su

This wasn’t a random question from Xiao Chen. As far as he knew, fewer than ten people had access to Su Chen’s courtyard residence. Aside from his own circle, that only left Sicong’s little group.

The fact that Wu Jing could be here meant Su Chen must know him very well.

"I was having dinner with Sicong once, and Mr. Su came along. We had a very pleasant chat, and at Mr. Su’s initiative, we established a film investment company!"

"A film investment company? Don’t tell me that fellow Su Chen saw that your Wolf Warrior 1 did pretty well and is planning to invest in your Wolf Warrior 2?" Xiao Chen teased.

"Uh..." Wu Jing was taken aback for a moment, then nodded. "That’s right. Mr. Su invested fifty million. I came today to talk to him about the movie."

Xiao Chen had just been making a casual comment, but he never expected to be right on the money.

"Here to talk to him about the movie? He probably doesn’t know much about that field. Are you short on cash? That’s something I can help you with." An idea suddenly struck Xiao Chen: he wanted to invest in Wu Jing’s film.

"Chief Instructor, are you serious?" Wu Jing asked, his voice filled with excitement.

He knew that his script required not just mercenaries but also a warship. Getting that on his own would be a hassle. Even with the bit of goodwill he had with the Jinling Military Region, it would be difficult.

But now, Xiao Chen was expressing interest in investing in the movie. With his involvement, these problems would no longer be problems.

Xiao Chen calmly waved his hand, signaling for him to calm down. "Don’t call me Chief Instructor. Just call me Brother Cheen!"

"I trust Su Chen’s judgment. If he’s optimistic about your Wolf Warrior 2, then it must be something special. I guess you could say I’m just looking to get a piece of the pie!"

Wu Jing smiled and nodded at his words. Su Chen had indeed helped him a great deal.

Thinking about what had happened to him in Africa, he sighed with emotion. "Sigh... If I hadn’t known Mr. Su, I wouldn’t have made it back from Africa this time!"

The moment the words left his mouth, Wu Jing snapped back to reality, realizing his mistake.

As expected... Xiao Chen’s eyes shifted slightly. Feigning curiosity, he asked, "Wouldn’t have made it back? What happened to you in Africa? How could Su Chen help you all the way in Africa?"

Wu Jing was suddenly speechless, unsure of what to say. After all, he had promised Su Chen he wouldn’t tell anyone. Besides, the information was so explosive it had taken him a long time to process it himself.

But it was Xiao Chen asking. If he didn’t answer, the situation would become very awkward.

Xiao Chen could see Wu Jing was struggling to speak and knew there must be a big story behind it. Otherwise, Wu Jing wouldn’t be so hesitant.

He then smiled and said, "Was it that fellow Su Chen who told you not to say anything? If he gave the word, then just keep it to yourself."

Wu Jing let out a long sigh of relief. Just as he was about to speak, a voice sounded from behind them.

"What are you all talking about? You seem to be having a good laugh!"

Everyone turned in unison to see Su Chen leaning against the doorframe.

"Huh? Didn’t Old Jiang say you were sleeping? Why are you up...?"

Su Chen shot them all a look and said irritably, "Come on. With all of you waiting for me here, how could I possibly sleep soundly?"

Su Chen had been sound asleep when a phone call jolted him awake. To make matters worse, the caller was his own subordinate—Pei Rang!

He had called for a reason. With the New Year approaching, Pei Rang was calling about the annual company meeting. It would be best if he returned to Shanghai for it; after all, the boss couldn’t just skip the year-end general meeting.

He also learned from Pei Rang that the meeting was set for the fifteenth, and they could start their holiday break right after it finished.

On top of that, Pei Rang needed to present the group’s annual report and discuss the strategic plan for the coming year. With all that on his mind, how could Su Chen possibly feel like sleeping?

After much back-and-forth, Su Chen promised to return to Shanghai on the tenth, and only then did Pei Rang hang up.

No longer feeling sleepy, Su Chen had just come downstairs when he heard from Old Jiang that the reception hall was nearly full. This led to the scene just now.

"Come on, sit down. We were just talking about you!" Xiao Chen said, patting the chair beside him.

Su Chen walked over and sat down next to Xiao Chen, then asked curiously, "About me? What were you guys talking about?"

Xiao Chen glanced at the slightly nervous Wu Jing and said with a laugh, "Haha! Wu Jing here just let it slip. Said he ran into some trouble in Africa and you were the one who helped him out. So, tell us what happened!"

Su Chen’s brow furrowed slightly at his words. He looked at Wu Jing, who had grown even more tense. When their eyes met, the regret in Wu Jing’s gaze told Su Chen it had been an unintentional slip.

"What do you think happened? It’s not like you guys don’t know what Africa is like."

He then turned his gaze back to Wu Jing and continued, "Wu Jing wanted to perfectly capture the scenes in his script, right? So he took a camera crew to South Africa for location scouting. Turns out, they ran into some douchebag chief who captured his whole team and even demanded Wu Jing train his troops for him!"

At this point, Su Chen felt his mouth was a bit dry. He poured himself a cup of tea and grabbed a few pastries to eat.

This drove Jiangyang crazy. The story had just gotten to the climax and then it stopped. Who could stand the suspense?

"So what happened next? How did you rescue Wu Jing and his team?!"

Thanks to his association with Xiao Chen, Jiangyang knew a thing or two about the situation in Africa.
