Chapter 347 - 195: Central Park One
"Why is it like that, though!" Arthur asked Su Chen, looking genuinely curious.
Su Chen immediately understood what Arthur was getting at. Instead of answering right away, he beckoned to Jiang Hui, who was standing nearby, and whispered a few instructions.
After Jiang Hui had left, Su Chen finally replied, "That’s perfectly normal. Any country’s cuisine has to be adapted to suit local tastes."
Arthur understood instantly. He realized those Cantonese restaurants must have seen he was a foreigner and adjusted the flavors to what they thought he would like.
Just like one of America’s most famous dishes, General Tso’s chicken, uses a sweet sauce, while in China, it’s made with green and red chili peppers. Naturally, the taste is completely different.
"Ahem... I wonder if I’ll be able to taste some authentic Cantonese food for lunch." Arthur showed no sign of embarrassment, looking rather expectant instead.
Su Chen shrugged helplessly and said with a smile, "It’s already been arranged. You can eat to your heart’s content at lunch!"
Thinking back to what had just happened, Arthur instantly understood. It seemed Su Chen had seen right through his subtle intentions from the very beginning.
After a sumptuous Cantonese lunch, Arthur, Su Chen, and their party set off for New York.
At the San Francisco airport, Su Chen got a look at Arthur’s private jet.
On the outside, it didn’t look much different from his own Yunmengze. But once he stepped aboard, he realized how mistaken he’d been.
The interior was a picture of opulence, glittering with gold everywhere. It could easily rival the planes of those oil tycoons in the Middle East.
Su Chen even made a point to ask about the interior decor. The answer he received was that nearly a ton of gold had been used, giving Su Chen a real taste of the sheer wealth of a top-tier global family.
The flight from San Francisco to New York covered over 4,600 kilometers, nearly half the distance of the flight from Shanghai. It took just over six hours to arrive in New York.
They had basically crossed the entire North American continent.
It was already 7:00 PM when they landed at the New York international airport, but on the access road by the private tarmac, two fleets of luxury cars were already waiting.
Beside each fleet stood burly men in black suits, all of them occasionally glancing at the opposing group.
Arthur noticed the situation as he stepped out of the cabin. He turned to Su Chen and asked, "Your people?"
Su Chen nodded calmly. "Yeah, Raymond arranged it."
Raymond had brought it up before. Initially, Su Chen hadn’t planned on making such arrangements; after all, with Arthur present, he was sure all the accommodations would be taken care of.
But Raymond’s words had been a wake-up call for Su Chen: "In America, you can’t entrust your safety to others, and don’t ever believe that people aren’t eyeing your wealth!"
It was because of this... that Su Chen had agreed to Raymond’s arrangements.
After several hours on the plane, both Su Chen and Arthur were feeling a bit tired. Upon leaving the airport, Arthur took Su Chen to a lavish dinner at a high-end private club tucked away in Manhattan.
"You’re sure you don’t need me to arrange a place for you to stay?" Arthur asked.
Su Chen smiled and waved his hand. "No, really, it’s fine. I have a luxury apartment near Central Park. I’ll just head straight there later."
Like the hillside villa in the San Francisco Bay Area, this place was also purchased by Raymond. The only difference was that Raymond had bought this one for his personal use and had never even lived in it after the renovations were completed.
Hearing this, Arthur didn’t press the matter. After a little more small talk, he left with a "I’ll come find you tomorrow," and departed in his own luxury car.
Watching the motorcade of luxury cars depart, Su Chen turned to Raymond beside him. "Let’s go. Time to see this top-tier luxury apartment of yours by Central Park."
The Manhattan Central Park area was arguably the most luxurious district in New York, a place where every square inch was worth its weight in gold. A random apartment here could easily cost tens of millions.
"It would be my honor, Boss!" Raymond said with a smile as he opened the car door for Su Chen.
Chen Fei and the others discreetly entered the other cars in the back, and the luxury motorcade set off toward Central Park.
The luxury motorcade soon arrived at Central Park. When Raymond pointed to a skyscraper before them that seemed to pierce the clouds, a flicker of curiosity appeared in Su Chen’s eyes.
"Boss, this is One Central Park, Manhattan’s most famous residence!"
The entire building is 472 meters tall and contains only 179 residences. Raymond’s apartment was located right in the middle, over two hundred meters up. The elevator ride alone took a full two minutes.
The entire luxury residence was a massive single-floor apartment, offering an unobstructed 360-degree view of the entire Manhattan skyline at night.
After touring the apartment’s interior, Su Chen stood on the observation deck, feeling as if he were looking down on the whole world.
But when he glanced down, his legs trembled involuntarily, and his hands shot out to grip the railing tightly.
’There was no other reason for it... This building is so damn high, it’s terrifying!’
