Chapter 387 - 208: You’re Not Locking Me Up, Are You?

They were masked and fully armed. The interesting thing was, their gear didn’t look like conventional equipment—it was more like something out of a sci-fi movie.

"Elder Xiao... who are these people?" Su Chen leaned toward Elder Xiao and asked curiously.

"Just your run-of-the-mill special forces."

Su Chen wanted to roll his eyes at Elder Xiao. Run-of-the-mill? Since when did "run-of-the-mill" look like they had walked straight out of a sci-fi movie?

Seeing the faint, unreadable smile on Elder Xiao’s face, Su Chen pouted but knew better than to press the issue.

"Tch. Fine, don’t tell me. It’s not like I’m dying to know anyway." After muttering this under his breath, Su Chen swaggered onto the plane, leaving Elder Xiao staring after him in surprise.

Although Su Chen had muttered quietly, Elder Xiao was standing right next to him. Of course he had heard.

"This kid..." A smile touched the corners of Elder Xiao’s lips as he led the others onto the plane.

Zheng Island didn’t have an airport. The nearest one was Jinzhou Airport, dozens of kilometers away.

After they landed at Jinzhou Airport, the masked men disembarked first. As Su Chen stepped off the plane, he saw one of them carrying a device that looked like a backpack. He could even see lights blinking on it intermittently.

Su Chen’s curiosity intensified, nagging at him like an itch he couldn’t scratch. He had already asked before, though. Asking again would be a little too damaging to his pride.

Just then, Elder Xiao’s voice came from behind him. "It’s a signal simulator. It prevents anyone from taking photos or tracking us via satellite."

"Heh heh. You’re the one who told me, Elder Xiao. I didn’t ask. So don’t go telling me it’s classified later."

Su Chen was about to press the topic when he saw a convoy of vehicles speeding toward them. Moments later, it screeched to a halt in front of them.

The man who got out of the lead car was a surprise to Su Chen. It was none other than Chen Fei. Of course, Su Chen didn’t recognize anyone else, but judging by their attire, they were likely Xiao Chen’s men.

After his initial surprise at seeing Chen Fei, Su Chen quickly put the pieces together.

Elder Xiao’s visit had to be top-secret. If they had arranged for locals to greet him, the entire Zheng Island would probably know by the next day. His movements would then become the center of public attention.

Besides, only the campus could mobilize so many vehicles on short notice. And since Chen Fei was one of the few people on the entire campus who knew about the project, he was the natural choice.

"Elder Xiao! Sir!" Chen Fei jogged over to them, his expression formal as he greeted them respectfully.

Both men nodded in acknowledgment.

Without wasting any time, Su Chen and Elder Xiao got directly into the car driven by Chen Fei. The others boarded their own vehicles in an orderly manner, the entire process carried out in complete silence.

The convoy’s arrival and departure were both swift. As they drove away from the airport, the plane they had just been on took off and vanished into the night sky.

By the time Su Chen’s group arrived at the campus, it was already five in the morning, and the sky was beginning to lighten.

"Hm?" As the car entered the campus, Su Chen noticed the security guards outside were still his own men.

"Chen Fei, how come our guys are still on guard duty outside? Where are Brother Cheen and his team?" Since it was just him, Chen Fei, and Elder Xiao in the car, Su Chen didn’t hold back and asked directly.

"Sir, the Boss and his men are all at the research base. We kept the outer campus unchanged to avoid arousing any suspicion." Even though the campus was far from the city and there was hardly anyone around, you could never be too careful about someone noticing a change.

So when Xiao Chen arrived, he secretly contacted Chen Fei. With Chen Fei’s help, he and his men slipped into the campus unnoticed. Aside from a few select teams, the vast majority of the campus staff had no idea they were here.

"Elder Xiao, you haven’t slept all night. Why don’t you get some rest first? We can head to the research base later?" After they got out of the car, Su Chen turned to Elder Xiao, whose face was etched with fatigue.

"Sigh... I’m getting old. I can barely handle one sleepless night anymore. Back in the day, I could go for days and nights without a problem. But rest can wait until after I’ve seen what I came to see."

As much as Elder Xiao wanted to get some proper rest, what he wanted to see most right now was that miniature nuclear reactor.

Su Chen wanted to try and persuade him again, but when he saw the resolute look in the old man’s eyes, he swallowed his words. Instead, he shot a look at Chen Fei, signaling him to arrange for a campus buggy.

Chen Fei immediately arranged for three buggies. He had intended to go with them, but Elder Xiao gave him a direct order, "Xiaofei, you’re not coming. I need you to coordinate with them."

Elder Xiao glanced at the group of masked men, and about ten of them immediately stepped forward.

After saluting Elder Xiao, Chen Fei walked over to the men. He exchanged a few quiet words with them before leading them away.

Seeing this, Su Chen had no choice but to get into the driver’s seat himself and drive Elder Xiao toward the research base located at the rear of the campus.

Just as they reached the entrance to the research base, they were stopped, unsurprisingly, by fully armed guards. But the moment the guards caught sight of Elder Xiao, they stiffened. Their leader snapped a salute at Elder Xiao before immediately grabbing the radio on his hip to call for Xiao Chen.
