Chapter 168 - 102: The Academy Favors Divination Geniuses (3)
Mo Ning ignored their subtle expressions, his hand gripping the calculation pen and moving rapidly across the slate.
Wherever the soft tip passed, it left behind dark black lines, flowing as smoothly as a stream, completely indistinguishable from the writing of an Ink Tube Pen.
Complex Divination Formulas flowed from under the pen at an astonishing speed, surging forth to cover the entire slate.
Anya and Reina leaned in to watch, but after just two seconds, they both gave up in unison.
’This is a Celestial Book!’
’I don’t get it. I don’t get it at all!’
While continuing to write furiously, Mo Ning made a promise without looking up:
"This calculation slate is actually quite useful. Once the Black Moss project is over and the paper is submitted, we should get an extra reward. I’ll use that money to buy two calculation slates and give one to each of you."
Anya’s eyes lit up, and she immediately praised him, "The generous Mr. Mo Ning!"
For someone willing to look out for his teammates’ welfare—and a welfare worth a whopping 18 Black Tower Points at that—calling him "Mister" and praising him as "generous" was not an overstatement at all.
Reina also beamed with a happy smile. "Yes, your generosity is moving!"
Her tone was full of sincere joy, but in her mind, she recalled the stories Teacher Buck used to tell about academic rewards.
’Only a rating of Star Badge Second Level or higher gets an extra reward. That’s a pipe dream most Apprentices wouldn’t even dare to imagine. Can our paper really achieve that?’
While the two young women were talking, the surface of the calculation slate had already been covered in dense formulas.
Mo Ning reached out and pressed a White Crystal embedded in the top-left corner, channeling a stream of Spiritual Power into it.
All the writing on the page vanished in an instant, but it wasn’t cleared away.
Through the tendrils of his Spiritual Power, Mo Ning could clearly "see" a phantom page suspended inside the White Crystal, densely packed with formulas.
In a way, the calculation slate was the Wizard equivalent of a digital sketchpad.
Three minutes passed quickly.
The calculation slate’s page had been "refreshed" twenty-two times. This astonishing speed left the two young women dumbfounded.
Especially since they couldn’t understand most of the formulas on it at all.
"Done!"
Mo Ning clipped the calculation pen into a slot on the side of the slate, a satisfied smile gracing his lips.
"I’ve got the result. I know how to open the Sanctuary."
Anya glanced at the final string of characters displayed on the calculation slate and could only blink in confusion.
Reina, however, looked thoughtful. "This looks like... a Tier Three Composite Magic Power Frequency, right?"
Teacher Buck wasn’t an outstanding Apprentice, and his Divination Talent was mediocre, but he was an exceptionally good teacher.
Thus, although Reina’s Divination Foundation was far inferior to Mo Ning’s, the breadth of her knowledge far surpassed that of other new Apprentices at her level.
Mo Ning’s tone held undisguised admiration. "That’s right!"
He casually explained, "As long as we generate a wave of water that matches this frequency, we can open the Sanctuary’s gate."
He paused, then summarized, "The clue was in the waves, the puzzle was in the waves, and the answer is still in the waves. This one was quite interesting."
Based on his experience, he believed this was a puzzle designed by a First Level Wizard.
Anya let out an "Oh," her pretty face wearing a vacant expression that said, ’I don’t really get it, but I’m thoroughly impressed.’
Reina, on the other hand, glanced at the calculation slate, then back at Mo Ning, her expression a little complicated.
The Dazed Girl understood the difficulty of "creating a wave with a Tier Three Composite Magic Power Frequency" far better than Anya.
She found it hard to believe this was something a new Apprentice could accomplish.
Because it not only required powerful Divination calculation skills but also extremely formidable Magic Power control to superimpose three different Magic Power frequencies in an instant.
She wracked her brain but couldn’t figure out how to produce a Tier Three Composite Magic Power Frequency without casting a Level Zero Witchcraft.
The Witchcraft structures of Sub-zero Level Tricks had inherent flaws. Their Energy Circuits were too simple, their Magic Power output was unstable, and the three Magic Power frequencies would inevitably conflict when superimposed, leading to complete Casting failure.
’In short, this is way beyond the curriculum!’
Mo Ning put away the calculation slate, stuffing it back into a pocket inside his blue robe, then took a few steps toward the surging current.
He quietly activated a Witchcraft Model in his Spiritual World—Water Control.
His hands rose slightly, as if he were caressing the churning surface of the water from a distance.
Magic Power instantly projected from the Witchcraft Model, like two invisible hands reaching into the torrent.
The next moment, on the surface of the roaring, turbulent water, two whirlpools appeared, spinning at different speeds.
Reina blinked her beautiful eyes, and that tuft of dazed hair suddenly stood on end. She instantly understood Mo Ning’s method for creating the Tier Three composite frequency:
’The two whirlpools contain two different Magic Power frequencies. The moment they collide, as long as the control is precise enough, it’s possible to create a third Magic Power frequency.’
She marveled inwardly, ’This method is so clever!’
’But the control is also extremely difficult, and the required calculations are absurdly complex.’
The Dazed Girl knew she didn’t have the ability to solve it; she didn’t even know how to begin the first step of the calculation. Thus, she praised him silently in her heart, ’A genius, through and through!’
BOOM!
The two whirlpools finally slammed into each other, sending up a huge spray of water. In an instant, layers of ripples surged across the water’s surface, spreading out in all directions.
The moment the first ripple touched the stone pillar, a startling sight appeared.
VMM—VMM—!
The massive stone pillar, as if shaken by that gentle ripple, suddenly began to tremble with a visible magnitude.
On the face of the pillar directly opposite the trio, a point of light suddenly appeared.
The point of light raced across the stone wall, quickly outlining the shape of an arched doorway.
The stone wall within the arch visibly turned ethereal, looking like a curtain of shimmering water through which a soft, orange-yellow light could be faintly seen seeping out.
Reina’s voice was full of irrepressible excitement. "By the Mystery! The door is open!"
Anya was more reserved, but she was also smiling radiantly.
Mo Ning didn’t wait any longer. He smiled and said, "Let’s go."
Without hesitation, he directly cast the Trick Feiyue. With a light push of his feet, his whole body floated lightly across the twenty-plus-meter span of water.
The moment his body touched the arched stone wall, his figure abruptly blurred and then vanished.
Anya followed close behind. She directly activated her Qi and Blood Power, her legs exploding with force as she leaped across the river and plunged into the stone door.
Reina took a deep breath and also cast the Trick Feiyue, flying gracefully into the stone door.
And then, the arched doorway outlined by points of light dimmed, and the stone wall returned to its hard, cold, solid state.
「Not long after.」
Another slender figure appeared by the lake.
Vino had followed the fading footprints all the way through the curtain of rain and the dense fog, finally coming to stand at the edge of this rain-filled crater.
The new Apprentice with serial number 014 stood on the bank, unable to find any more footprints, puzzled for a long time.
It wasn’t until the fog rose to her chest that she finally realized something, and a look of shock instantly appeared on her pretty face.
Vino stared at the roaring, surging current, finding it hard to believe. ’Grandfather said that there were safe Sanctuaries in the wilderness assessment, but this isn’t a puzzle meant for new Apprentices. Even Second Level Apprentices would have a hard time solving it.’
An uncontrollable thought popped into her head—’Could they have cheated?’
’Among the many stories Grandfather told, such shameful behavior did indeed exist. Because the challenges are all man-made, there’s always a possibility of leaks.’
’Of course, everyone involved in cheating was later subjected to unusually severe punishment.’
The more Vino thought about it, the more suspicious she became.
’Three new Apprentices with low serial numbers, none of whom are rumored to have outstanding talent in Secret Divination and Divination—how could they possibly open a Sanctuary that even other Apprentices might not be able to?’
’There’s definitely something wrong!!’
Then she had another realization. ’No wonder those three left the forest so decisively. They must have received intel ahead of time.’
Vino bit her lip, raised her left hand, and activated her Guiding Ring with her Spiritual Power, silently reciting, "I want to file a report!"
’There’s definitely a reward for reporting cheating. Earning a sum of Black Tower Points without any effort... only a fool would pass that up.’
She even began to happily calculate the potential reward in her head. ’Three new Apprentices cheating together... even if the reward is thirty Black Tower Points per person, that’s still a mouth-watering prize!’
