Chapter 167 - 102: The Academy Favors Divination Geniuses (Part 2)
To be honest, the thought was a bit crazy.
The Wizard World was so vast, and countless geniuses emerged every year. Yet even after tens of thousands of years, the number of Wizards who could stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Gao Lei remained few and far between.
But the Noble Lady believed this with all her heart.
After finishing the story, Reina couldn’t help but add with a deep sigh, "The academy really favors Divination geniuses."
The Dazed Girl had felt the same way during the assessment in the Secluded Forest.
The academy had designed a special path out of the forest for Divination geniuses, while the other novices had to fight terrifying Dragon Lizardmen to the death.
This wilderness survival assessment was no different. The Sanctuary provided by the academy was so well hidden that only a true Divination genius could catch that faint, beautiful melody of Divination amidst the noise.
A faint smile touched Anya’s pretty face. "But that’s fair. Just as the story of Lord Gao Lei tells us, a single flash of Spiritual Light from a Divination genius can change the destinies of many. Divination is the true force that shapes the course of history."
Reina agreed with her point. "That’s true."
Just then, with a thought from Mo Ning, the virtual light screen hanging in front of him silently dissipated.
He had analyzed more information from the sound of the waves coming through the curtain of rain ahead, but there was no need to share it with his two teammates.
After all, their skill in Divination was still lacking. They wouldn’t understand it even if he explained.
Mo Ning eagerly issued a command. "Let’s go. We’re going to open the Sanctuary."
His next words made the two young women instantly excited. "If I’m not mistaken, there are most likely good things inside the Sanctuary."
Anya’s beautiful eyes immediately brightened.
Reina was even more thrilled, crying out, "Then let’s get going!"
Her eagerness was understandable—who wouldn’t be interested in rewards?
Not long after, with Mo Ning leading the way, the team advanced several hundred meters and passed through a natural "archway" formed by two massive, opposing boulders.
The view before them suddenly opened up, revealing a canyon-like basin.
The basin was staggeringly large, covering at least ten hectares. At its center stood a thick stone pillar nearly fifty meters high, like a silent giant that had stood in the wind and rain for a millennium.
The surrounding torrents of rain surged into the basin, forming a lake before pouring out through an exit at the far end.
The exit was a narrow fissure less than twenty meters wide, forming what looked like the mouth of a gourd in the terrain.
Here, the current constricted, its velocity exploding. The water grew as turbulent as an enraged herd of beasts, waves crashing against the canyon walls and letting out a series of deep, thunderous RUMBLES.
Mo Ning laughed after a single glance. "Looks like my guess was right!"
He immediately offered an explanation. "The Divination Model for Gao Lei’s Spiritual Sanctuary is said to be shaped like a gourd-style funnel."
He pointed to the sky to elaborate. "The downpour can be seen as an external Spiritual Attack."
His finger then moved to the canyon’s exit. "The Divination Model first gathers the Spiritual Attacks and funnels them out through the exit, thereby protecting one’s consciousness from being controlled."
He then pointed through the air toward the tall stone pillar in the center of the current, its base standing firm against the torrent. "And that is the Sanctuary that protects one’s consciousness. That is our target."
The two young women were thoroughly impressed.
When they first saw the lake, all they felt was immense danger. It didn’t look like a welcoming place in the slightest.
Yet someone else could peel back the layers of disguise and identify the hidden sanctuary within the perilous landscape.
Reina asked bluntly, "Mr. Mo Ning, how do we open the Sanctuary?"
Having experienced the assessment in the Secluded Forest, she knew with absolute certainty that finding the Sanctuary was one test, and opening it was another.
And the method to open it, she was one hundred percent sure, would be related to Secret Divination and Divination.
The Dazed Girl’s prediction was immediately confirmed.
Mo Ning smiled. "The answer is hidden in the sound of the water striking the rock walls."
Considering the Divination proficiency of his audience, he explained concisely, "Besides five Lagrangian constants, the waves also conceal over a dozen Vibration spectrums. That’s the key."
"First, you use the Spiritual Wave Derivation Formula to process these spectrums. Then, you substitute the result into the Gao Lei Sanctuary Formula to get the final answer."
At this, his gaze fell upon the churning surface of the water. "I need to start my calculations."
’In truth, the Eye of Truth had already completed the calculation. The answer was already floating quietly in the depths of his consciousness, but a bit of showmanship was essential.’
He reached into his blue robe and retrieved a calculation slate from his Casting Belt.
It looked like a white stone slab, its edges polished smooth and round, its surface as flat as a mirror.
It was pouring rain, so any scale pattern paper would have been instantly soaked. Only the waterproof, moisture-resistant calculation slate was a suitable tool for the moment.
Reina glanced at the slate and sighed inwardly again. ’Mr. Mo Ning really is a wealthy man.’
’She knew, of course, that despite its plain appearance, the slate cost a whopping 18 Black Tower Points.’
Mo Ning held the calculation slate in his left hand and its matching stylus in his right. He was suddenly annoyed. ’Last time I applied for the research grant for Black Moss, I should have added three calculation slates to the funding request.’
The two young women could barely keep straight faces when they heard him.
’Last time, he’d managed to fleece the academy for an extra Warm Sun Furnace, something they could tolerate for the sake of a genius. But trying to fleece them for three more calculation slates? Even the most good-natured reviewing Wizard would have a hard time stomaching that.’
