Chapter 53: Warning the Masses, Riding the Wave
"Because of the Evolution Potion," the woman replied, gritting her teeth.
Ren Yuanyang immediately realized. "You failed to evolve?"
The woman nodded. "The Evolution Potion has a success rate of less than 1%. If you fail, you’ll most likely die. I don’t have much time left!"
Lu Jiamei’s expression darkened. "To get a success rate like that... I can’t imagine how many people must have died horribly in those experiments."
"Those sons of bitches are using our countrymen for experiments again?" Qin Haonan immediately roared in anger. He wished he could rush over and slaughter those animals right now.
"So, please, you must expose the Feixiang’s evil deeds to the public!" the woman pleaded again. "Record me. My condition will be more convincing that way."
Ren Yuanyang nodded slightly. "Haonan, you film it!"
Qin Haonan acknowledged and took out his phone.
"Wait!"
With trembling hands, the woman pulled a small USB drive and three syringes from her clothes.
The syringes contained a blue liquid. That must be the Evolution Potion.
"This is some of the experimental data and a few Evolution Potions I brought off the Feixiang. They’re yours now!" The woman’s voice trembled. "This is data our countrymen paid for with their lives. I hope we can use it ourselves in the future!"
Ren Yuanyang knew he was accepting a hot potato, but he still took them without hesitation. "Don’t worry. I’ll take good care of them."
Hearing Ren Yuanyang’s words, the woman let out a sigh of relief, as if a great weight had been lifted from her shoulders.
"I don’t have much time left. Let’s start," the woman said.
Just then, the woman’s pale complexion suddenly turned ruddy.
Qin Haonan nodded slightly and immediately turned on his phone’s camera.
"Fellow countrymen, do not go to the Feixiang Aircraft Carrier! It belongs to Lvzhi Country! They’re luring you there to use you for their Evolution Potion experiments!"
"I was injected with the Evolution Potion, and now I’m on the verge of death. Maybe heaven itself couldn’t stand their atrocities and let me awaken a powerful Water-Type Superpower. Thanks to my fellow countrymen on the carrier who bought me time with their lives, I was able to escape."
As she spoke, the woman held out her chapped palm. The surrounding rainwater immediately gathered in her hand, forming a water orb the size of a basketball!
Ren Yuanyang finally understood how the woman had managed to escape from the aircraft carrier.
She used her Water-Type Superpower to propel the inflatable raft forward, completely eliminating the need for oars!
’To escape even under those circumstances... that Water-Type Superpower is way too strong!’ Ren Yuanyang found it incredible.
After all, the Feixiang Aircraft Carrier would certainly have speedboats. Even if her countrymen helped stall the enemy, the moment the carrier’s crew reacted, they could have sent soldiers in speedboats to pursue her.
The fact that she had managed to escape and even outrun the speedboats was truly shocking!
Generally speaking, right after evolving, a Superpower’s strength shouldn’t be that great. Clearly, the woman before them was not a typical case!
Right after the woman formed the water orb, her spirit instantly flagged, and the orb collapsed, splashing all over her.
"Don’t... go..."
Before she could finish her sentence, the woman fell silent. But her head remained raised, her eyes wide with fury, the arm that had just summoned the water orb still frozen in mid-air.
It was as if she were accusing Lvzhi Country of its atrocities even in death.
The three of them were silent for a moment. Then, Qin Haonan spoke up, "Boss, should I send this video out now?"
"Send it immediately!" Ren Yuanyang replied in a grim voice.
Lu Jiamei tried to lower the woman’s arm but found she couldn’t. As she did, she noticed a few numbers on the woman’s wrist: 0731.
"Just how many of our countrymen have they brutalized!" Lu Jiamei gritted her back teeth so hard they might have shattered.
"They will definitely pay the price for their actions!" Ren Yuanyang said grimly. "First, we need to warn the other survivors to stay away from the Feixiang!"
Lu Jiamei nodded and looked at the woman. "What do we do with her?"
After a moment of thought, Ren Yuanyang replied, "We’ll take her back with us for now."
She may be gone, but they couldn’t just leave a hero here.
With that said, Ren Yuanyang went back under the boat’s canopy and took out his phone. Qin Haonan had already posted the video to the regional channel.
"Holy crap, is this for real? This isn’t just someone making a clickbait video, is it?!"
"Probably not. Lvzhi Country isn’t far from us. It’s completely plausible they could bring an aircraft carrier into our region!"
"They dared to invade us with small boats in ancient times. In a situation like this, their whole country has probably already come over!"
"I told you all not to go to the Feixiang Aircraft Carrier! See? It’s a trap!"
"Dammit, they actually dare to use our people for experiments! Where’s our aircraft carrier? Get out there and fuck them up!"
"Don’t be rash! The fact that they dared to reveal their location means they’re prepared. Their masters from Sea Eagle Country might even have a carrier nearby!"
"Are we just going to stand by and watch them brutalize our own countrymen?"
"The most important thing right now is for everyone to stop throwing their lives away!"
While everyone was furiously discussing the matter, Yamamoto Goro, captain of the Feixiang, was cursing out his subordinates.
"Baka! Are you all useless? How could you let a test subject escape with so many of you watching?"
"Yes, sir! Although the test subjects weren’t successful, they did evolve and gain Superpowers. They fought to the death to get that one person away."
"I don’t want to hear your excuses! I don’t care if the test subjects live or die, but you must retrieve the lost experimental data!"
"Yes, sir! The escaped Water-Type Evolver may have outrun our speedboats, but I’m sure she couldn’t have gotten far. We’ll find her soon!"
"Hmph. If I don’t see that lost data by eight o’clock tomorrow morning, you can all commit seppuku together!"
"Yes, sir!"
After his subordinate left, Yamamoto Goro slowly calmed down.
An aide at his side spoke up. "This test subject’s escape also demonstrates the power of Evolvers. If we could truly form a structured unit of Evolvers, it would play a huge role in future battles."
Yamamoto Goro nodded slightly. Looking at the discussion on the regional channel on his phone, he frowned. "Our identity has been exposed too early. This isn’t good for rounding up more test subjects!"
"Actually, this might not be a bad thing," the aide analyzed, blinking his small, beady eyes. "Sea Eagle Country has been demanding our experimental data. With this incident, we have an excuse to delay them indefinitely."
Yamamoto Goro’s eyes lit up slightly. "Yoshi! A good idea!"
"At the same time, we can use this to request that Sea Eagle Country send forces to set up defenses. After all, the riot from those Evolvers had a big impact on us, and a Dragon Country aircraft carrier could show up at any moment!" the aide continued.
Yamamoto Goro’s eyes shone even brighter. "Excellent. Proceed according to your plan!"
"Yes, sir!"
Although he already had a plan, Yamamoto Goro still deployed a smoke bomb on the regional channel.
"That last video is definitely a baseless rumor. We are indeed an aircraft carrier from Lvzhi Country, but we have never conducted experiments on human beings. Not in the past, and we certainly never will in the future!"
’Believe it or not, I’ll deny it to my grave!’
