Chapter 221 - 136: Finally Collapsed (Part 2)
He was standing right behind the Cat Girls, yet they hadn’t noticed a thing. Li Ziyu’s face darkened. He covered his mouth and coughed twice, but it seemed the wails and howls of battle drowned him out. The two Cat Girls still didn’t react.
Li Ziyu sighed, reached out, and grabbed Mengmeng by the collar, pulling her back.
"Hey! Hey, hey! Sister, don’t grab me! I can’t see! I can’t see! Waaah!" The Cat Girl, Mengmeng, stretched out her little paws, trying to grab the edge of the parapet, but she failed and was hauled back.
She felt herself spin around, and suddenly a face was in front of hers, the two of them staring at each other.
"Sis—huh? Ci-City Lord!" Once she got a clear look at the face before her, Mengmeng let out a yelp and dropped to the ground.
Meng Ni turned around as well and knelt on the ground, not daring to lift her head. The Fox Maiden had secretly brought her and her sister up here. They had agreed to just take a quick peek, but they’d gotten so engrossed that they didn’t even notice the City Lord arrive. They’d been caught red-handed.
With a dark expression, Li Ziyu spoke slowly. "Who let you come up here? And watching so eagerly, too. Is it that fun to watch? That’s a battle down there! What if you get hurt? What then? Are you just going to wait for me to take care of you?"
Mengmeng skillfully adjusted her posture into a perfect kneeling position. Her head bowed, she looked the very picture of sincere apology. She was clearly experienced at this.
But in her heart, she wasn’t convinced. She muttered under her breath, "We’re so far away, you can’t even see clearly. How could we possibly get hit?"
As if to prove Li Ziyu right, the moment Mengmeng finished speaking, a sharp CRACK echoed from the crenellations. It startled Mengmeng, who whipped her head around in terror to see a wisp of smoke rising in the distance.
Li Ziyu jumped too. ’I was just bluffing,’ he thought. He hadn’t actually considered the possibility of stray shots. The Jackal Wolfmen used long guns, and theoretically, hitting them from this distance should be impossible.
And yet, just now, a pellet had undeniably struck the crenellations. He had heard what Mengmeng said and couldn’t help but look over at the Little Cat Girl. ’Are you a jinx or something?’
The last time he fought the Jackal Wolfmen, with so many Long Spearmen, not a single one of their pellets had managed to hit his main tower. Even just moments ago, no pellets had come this way. But right after Mengmeng spoke, as luck would have it, one just had to fly over.
"Ahem. ’Too far away?’ ’Can’t get hit?’ Now do you see if they can hit you or not!" Li Ziyu coughed, his face stern as he reprimanded her.
"I’m sorry, I was wrong." The Little Cat Girl, Mengmeng, obediently and properly admitted her mistake.
"And another thing, if you’re going to watch, then just watch. Why were you leaning your body out like that? Were you trying to give the Jackal Wolfmen a target because you were afraid they couldn’t aim? Or were you planning on taking your sister with you to jump off the tower?" Li Ziyu crouched down, poking the Little Cat Girl on the forehead as he scolded her.
"I won’t do it again," the Little Cat Girl said, her head bobbing with each poke, her face a mask of misery.
"You can watch if you want," Li Ziyu said to the two Cat Girls, "but you have to be careful!"
Li Ziyu wasn’t angry that the two Cat Girls had snuck up here. He was angry that they were treating the battle below as pure entertainment, without a single shred of caution. That was what was truly frightening.
This was a war, not a game of house. Did they think they were watching a movie? What would they do if something actually happened? They weren’t Undead, who could just shrug off an injury.
’I just got two new Maids. I haven’t even gotten to enjoy their service for two days. How frustrating would it be if they got injured or killed?’
After the lecture, Li Ziyu didn’t dwell on it. He waved his hand, signaling that if they wanted to watch, he would summon some Skeleton Undead to protect them and prevent any accidents.
As he spoke, the figures of several Skeleton Undead materialized on the crenellations, forming a wall in front of the two Cat Girls. But there were plenty of gaps between the bones of the Undead, and through those gaps, they could still see the state of the battle below.
The Fox Maidens behind them were dumbfounded. ’What in the world is going on? Those two Cat Girls are servants! A servant is barely better than a Slave. They left their posts without permission, so why isn’t the Master angry?’
’Not only did he not punish the two Cat Girls, he even assigned Skeleton Undead to protect them! It shouldn’t be this way! We sisters don’t even get that kind of treatment!’
"It’s over. We’re really going to be abandoned, boo-hoo..." Spirit Maiden’s face fell, and she began to whimper.
"If it didn’t work this time, there’s always next time. There are plenty of opportunities, anyway," Yan Ji said nonchalantly, pinching Spirit Maiden’s cheek to tell her not to worry so much.
"Or we could just kill them," Ice Princess said coldly, her gaze fixed on the Cat Girl Sisters.
"Ice Princess, hold your tongue! Don’t speak such nonsense," Mei Ji quickly rebuked her. "The lives of those two Cat Girls belong to the Master. Only the Master can decide if they live or die. We have no right!"
They were communicating via their souls, so there was no fear of anyone else overhearing.
After making arrangements for the Catwoman Sisters, Li Ziyu turned back to the Fox Maidens. He looked up at the sky and saw a large group of Undead gathered together, pointing and laughing at the battlefield below. Puzzled, he asked, "What are they doing?"
Mei Ji glanced up, then immediately put on a bewitching smile. She sauntered over to Li Ziyu’s side and said in a sweet, coquettish voice, "Master, they’re gambling."
"Hmm? You Wandering Souls can gamble? What are the stakes?" Li Ziyu looked away from the sky and back at Mei Ji in surprise.
"Of course we can," Mei Ji explained, her smile radiant. "We’re Wandering Souls, so we don’t have many possessions. The stakes are our own Soul Power."
’Well, I’ll be,’ Li Ziyu thought. ’They can even use their own Soul Power as a stake? Aren’t they afraid of losing so much that their souls just dissipate?’
