Chapter 248 - 145: Ramming to Death
They couldn’t stop to fight. If they were tied down, the Undead from behind would catch up, and they would be dead for sure.
"Split up!" Sachelli suddenly said, turning to look around.
The underground passages were a labyrinth, with countless forks and a dense network of smaller tunnels. Their mission was to get word back to Komeilan City that the Undead had appeared in the passages, to let White Hair know what was happening. But by the looks of the Undead, they clearly had no intention of sparing them.
Following Sachelli’s command, the Demonized Creatures instantly scattered, each picking a tunnel and diving in, running without a backward glance. They lived underground, after all, and were far more familiar with the passages.
One Demonized Minotaur, however, stayed behind. Hefting a massive Totem Pole, he turned to face the ferociously charging Skeleton Desert Wolves.
The Skeleton Desert Wolves didn’t care who their opponent was. The enemy had stopped—what was there to hesitate about? Attack!
Three Skeleton Desert Wolves kicked off the ground and leaped, pouncing toward the Demonized Minotaur. The Minotaur snorted two jets of black qi from his nostrils, gripped one end of the Totem Pole with both hands, and swung it with all his might, smashing it toward the wolves in mid-air.
A single move, Sweeping Thousand Soldiers, enveloped all three Skeleton Desert Wolves, smashing violently into their spines. Wolves are known for their tough heads and strong tails, but their spines are their weak point. Even as Skeleton Undead, this remained true. Struck by the Totem Pole, bones flew everywhere, scattering across the ground.
Huh?!
Seeing the results of his attack, the Demonized Minotaur froze.
’They shattered just like that? Was it that easy?’
’These wolf-like Skeletons in front of me don’t seem as terrifying as I imagined.’
Before he could dwell on it, the other Skeleton Desert Wolves pounced. With a furious roar, the Minotaur met them head-on. He swung his Totem Pole with whistling force, and by relying on his heavy Weapon and the narrow confines of the tunnel, he single-handedly held off all the Skeleton Desert Wolves.
It had to be said, there were many fine Warriors in the Komeilan City Guard. They had their own code; in a situation like this, for example, someone would always volunteer to cover the rear, without needing a commander like Sachelli to give the order.
As the fight wore on, the Demonized Minotaur became increasingly confident. He realized they had overestimated the Undead. These wolf-like Skeletons looked vicious, but in reality, other than being fast, they weren’t even as ferocious as Demonized Wild Wolves. Stuck in the narrow passage, the Skeletons couldn’t use their Speed to their advantage, and their combat effectiveness plummeted.
He’d been bitten by the Skeleton Desert Wolves several times, but his Armor protected him. These Skeletons couldn’t even begin to break through his defense.
’The Undead are nowhere near as powerful as we thought. They’re actually quite weak. *Sigh*, blame the legends for making us think they were so mighty.’
’If all Undead fight like this, we didn’t have to flee in such a panic. We could have fought a wave of them and still gotten away easily.’
The Demonized Minotaur continued to swing his Totem Pole, batting away the relentlessly pouncing Skeleton Desert Wolves. During this time, the main body of Skeleton Undead had staggered up to them.
’Oh, the Skeletons have caught up too? Perfect. I was just itching to test your mettle!’
The Demonized Minotaur sent a few more charging Skeleton Desert Wolves flying, then rolled his shoulders. He glanced contemptuously at the approaching Skeleton Undead and snorted another jet of black qi from his nostrils. Pawing the ground with a black hoof, he fixed his gaze on the Skeletons ahead, lowered his head, and clutched the Totem Pole to his chest.
CHARGE—
With a dull roar, the Demonized Minotaur charged resolutely at the Skeleton Undead. Leading with his two horns and the Totem Pole, he forged ahead, crashing directly into the throng of Skeletons. Bones instantly filled the air as he gored one Skeleton Undead after another, flinging them aside.
After plowing thirty-some meters through the mass of Undead, the Demonized Minotaur stopped. As he straightened up, he whipped the Totem Pole around in a wide arc, smashing the surrounding Skeleton Undead to bits. Then, he lowered his head and charged right back through them.
Back and forth he went, completely unstoppable. Neither the Skeleton Undead nor the Skeleton Desert Wolves could do a thing to him.
After charging out of the pile of Skeletons and returning to his original position, the Demonized Minotaur looked back at the Undead behind him. He turned around slowly, a scornful sneer on his face.
Is that it?
’Can’t even withstand a single Charge. Pathetic.’
Just as he was reveling in his triumph, he suddenly noticed something. The Undead he had shattered were stirring. They were picking up fallen bones from the ground and pressing them back into place. In moments, they were standing up again, completely intact.
’Oh, so that’s how it works. No wonder the legends say the Undead are unkillable. This must be the reason. You break them apart, and they just piece themselves back together.’
The Demonized Minotaur had an epiphany. These Undead were all incredibly fragile. With the physique of a Warrior like him, he could easily break them apart. The problem was that after being shattered, they would just get back up. It was purely a battle of stamina, a war of attrition.
’No wonder I felt like I could never finish off those wolf-like Skeletons earlier. It’s not that I couldn’t kill them—they were just constantly reassembling themselves.’
But he also noticed that some of the shattered Undead didn’t get back up. Those were the ones whose heads had been crushed.
’Hmm, so it seems their weakness is the head. As long as you crush their skulls, they can’t get back up.’
This Demonized Minotaur was not the least bit foolish; he completely lacked the simple, honest nature of a normal Minotaur. Tainted by Demonic Qi, he had become cunning and intelligent.
