It was a slender boy with vacant eyes, wearing a loose hospital outfit. He held a black cat in his arms and his body was covered with wounds so deep bone could be seen.
The boy ignored Lin Ye and closed the door, then sat leaning against the metal wall.
The cat looked ordinary, but the boy was not; he emitted the same aura as Ebert.
“I was sent here by the system to join the war. Are you my comrade? Where’s the battlefield?”
When the door opened earlier, Lin Ye used mental energy to sense the outside. It was even more chaotic than he had imagined.
“…You’re late. The war is over. Everyone except me is dead. I’m about to die too.”
The boy hugged the black cat and forced a smile uglier than crying.
“So the battlefield is outside this room, and all my enemies are out there?”
This was Lin Ye’s first time in such a war.

The boy slumped against the wall and tossed a lavish-looking silver Spatial Ring to Lin Ye.
“This contains all my savings. If you can take it back to the Shelter, everything inside is yours.”

Lin Ye threw the cat into the World of Ashes, then pushed open the metal door.
