Chapter 763: Mutated Body
After completing the modification, the Mutant charged toward the staircase, only to be torn into shreds by those Root Tendrils.
During this process, Lin Ye smoothly completed the modification of a second Mutant, which also charged toward the staircase and was torn into pieces by the Root Tendrils.
A third, a fourth, a fifth… until all the Mutants on the platform had been shredded by the Root Tendrils, only then did Lin Ye stop his actions.
“That should be about enough.”
The Pseudo-Human-Sacrifice System was a mature framework that could operate perfectly, but the more mature such a system was, the easier it was to replace its key components.
Through the deaths of the Mutants, Lin Ye altered the main body of the sacrificial ritual and used a special spiritual imprint to influence the sacrificial subject’s method of operation.
After dealing with the issues here, Lin Ye left the platform and continued moving toward the organization’s base.
Not long after, Lin Ye arrived at the next station platform; the organization’s base was located near this subway station.
On the first underground level of this station, there was none of that piled-up dumpling filling, nor were there any Pseudo-Humans or Mutants.
Following the stairs back up to the ground level, Lin Ye discovered that the subway entrance was pitch black, as if something was blocking it, cutting off the outside light.
Lin Ye turned on his flashlight and saw that what was blocking the subway entrance was a dark green, moldy chunk of flesh covered in fuzz.
“Cough, cough…”
The moment he saw that flesh, Lin Ye began to retreat, but some of the mold still managed to enter his body through his respiratory tract.
Patches of dark green mold spread rapidly through Lin Ye’s body. This expansion was incredibly fast; in just a few seconds, it had reached his lungs.
“Cough, cough, cough, cough, cough…”
Lin Ye retreated back to the subway platform at top speed, while simultaneously using Spiritual Energy Vibration to forcibly shatter the parts of his body that had been contaminated by the mold, including half of his lungs and his entire outer respiratory tract.
After clearing out the mold, Lin Ye immediately began outlining a mutation rune inside his body, alienating the structures he had lost.
But even though Lin Ye was extremely careful, his body still produced a large amount of chaotic mutated tissue. These mutated tissues piled up in his chest, pushing apart his ribs and putting a certain amount of pressure on his spine.
Lin Ye lay on the ground, his upper body swollen and deformed, his neck thicker than his waist, completely unable to move normally.
‘…This is way too bad.’
Lin Ye barely managed to turn onto his side. He couldn’t lie on his back or move recklessly now; otherwise, the excess tissue structures would crush the organs that were barely keeping his body functioning.
His current body wouldn’t last long. If he didn’t do anything, he would be dead in at most five minutes.
Lin Ye struggled to pull a blade from his body and used it to cut open his chest.
‘This surgery environment is absolutely terrible.’
Using his spiritual energy and the blade, Lin Ye smoothly removed the troublesome parts, including his entire ribcage.
For Lin Ye, cutting these things out wasn’t difficult; the real challenge was how to handle the wound afterward.
“…I can only use the mutation rune one more time… no, maybe I should use the Flesh and Blood Rule Fragment?”
Lin Ye’s current condition was extremely poor. This wasn’t a wound that surgery could fix. Only by harnessing the power of the Flesh and Blood Rule Fragment could he manage his injuries.
He could use the Flesh and Blood Rule Fragment to stimulate the growth of a large amount of mutated tissue, then remove the unwanted parts afterward, keeping only the usable tissue structures.
“But doing this will absorb a massive amount of inferior spiritual energy and blend the impurities within that inferior spiritual energy into my flesh and blood…”
Lin Ye had no idea what would happen then. This body might spiral completely out of control, and this degree of alienation could even affect his Consciousness.
Fortunately, this wasn’t his true body, with the system acting as a buffer in between; otherwise, he would never have even considered such an idea—the risk was far too great.
‘…It should be fine. If worst comes to worst, I can always fall back on the backup plan.’
After thinking for a short while, Lin Ye manipulated the Flesh and Blood Rule Fragment and began to alienate his body.
A large amount of inferior spiritual energy merged into the wound. From his previous simulations, he had already gained a certain understanding of inferior spiritual energy, so he wasn’t caught off guard like he had been when he first encountered it.
His chest grew a large number of mutated structures, which quickly filled the entire platform space and began spreading toward the first underground level and the tunnels on both sides.
Lin Ye didn’t directly alienate his entire body all at once. Instead, he slowly modified his body structure through the wound in his chest. Most of the impurities mixed into the spiritual energy were expelled from his body, but a portion still fused into his form.
It took half an hour for Lin Ye to complete the alienation and crawl out from that pile of rotten flesh.
By now, Lin Ye had completely lost his human form, having transformed into a Deformed Monster.
His back was covered in various types of limbs. He stood three meters tall and was nearly one meter wide.
Pale bone spurs pierced through his body, draped with all sorts of bizarre tissue structures.
His internal state was even more chaotic, with various organs and bones tangled together, yet there was a subtle sense of harmony to it.
This was the optimal body Lin Ye had crafted using his combined knowledge, capable of normal movement.
After crawling out of the pile of rotten flesh, Lin Ye didn’t rush to leave. Instead, he began pondering the issue of inferior spiritual energy.
‘This kind of inferior spiritual energy doesn’t seem to be entirely without advantages… If I can use my mental energy freely in this environment, couldn’t I create parasitic nodes out of thin air? Could this be the correct way to use this inferior spiritual energy?’
Lin Ye placed his hand on the pile of rotten flesh. He liked to perform simple, repetitive actions while thinking through problems.
‘But this inferior spiritual energy has very poor conductivity for mental energy, making it hard to use mental energy on a large scale in this environment. However, mental energy does transmit more smoothly through flesh and blood…’
One by one, Mutants crawled out from the pile of rotten flesh. Some of the Mutants charged toward the subway entrance, while the rest rushed through the tunnels toward every corner of the city.
Lin Ye had alienated some tissue structures in the Mutants heading for the subway entrance that could clear away the mold.
‘It’s a shame this consumes so much mental energy. Otherwise, I could just keep creating Mutants here and fill the entire city.’
Lin Ye needed to expend mental energy to replicate Spiritual Parasites. If his conversion targets were Pseudo-Humans, he could use their mental energy to replicate the Spiritual Parasites, even turning a small profit in the process.
These Mutants created out of thin air consumed his own mental energy. Unless he found a massive supply of mental energy, he wouldn’t be able to keep this up for long.
‘No wonder those cultists always like using humans as sacrificial offerings—it really is convenient… If only there were a group of cultists in the city with extremely high mental energy.’
Before long, Lin Ye had finished dealing with the pile of rotten flesh.
