Chapter 490: The Impossible Situation. (Bonus Chapter)
"What do you say?!" one of the elders asked in a loud voice.
His voice echoed throughout the hall, carrying unmistakable shock and disbelief.
The previous calm atmosphere had long vanished, replaced by a suffocating sense of dread.
All the elders rose to their feet, their expressions grim. Their relaxed postures disappeared instantly.
Although they did not understand what the guard meant by attack, none of them dared to underestimate his words..
Instead, the uncertainty only caused the oppressive atmosphere inside the hall to grow even heavier.
The deadly injuries on the guard’s body alone were enough to tell everyone that this was an extremely serious situation.
Blood continuously flowed from his wounds, forming a small crimson pool beneath him.
"Let’s go and see what is going on," the king announced as he rose to his feet.
His tone remained calm, yet everyone could hear the seriousness hidden beneath his authoritative voice.
His instincts were screaming of danger unlike before. The uneasy feeling grew stronger with every passing second, refusing to leave his mind.
It was the kind of danger he had never felt before.
A primal fear.
An instinctual crisis.
With large strides, the king walked out of the hall, his expression grave.
Every step he took carried the authority of a ruler, yet even he could not suppress the uneasiness growing within his heart.
Behind him, the elders’ expressions were ugly.
Even the Old Elder gripped his staff tightly and walked out of the hall behind the other elders.
’Where could the attack have come from?’ the Old Elder could not help but wonder.
His brows furrowed deeply as he tried to make sense of the impossible situation.
If it was from the humans or the Horn Lizard Clan, they would have had to bypass their secured gate entrance.
Even if they were going to breach the gate, they would have been informed already. Numerous guards were stationed around the city walls.
Yet, they did not receive such information.
Thus, his thoughts could not help but spiral out of control as one impossible possibility after another appeared inside his mind.
’Is it possible our clansmen are fighting each other?’
Before he could even continue on his train of thought, he heard the raging sounds of battle coming from deep within the palace.
The continuous explosions and miserable screams immediately shattered his speculation.
"T...This..."
He raised his head and stared at the chaos unfolding in the distance. His aged pupils contracted violently as the horrifying scene entered his vision.
He saw them.
Undead soldiers were killing everything in their path.
They advanced without hesitation, cutting down every Scorpion Clansman unfortunate enough to stand before them.
Before he could make sense of it, one of the elders stuttered.
"I...Is that... not the... the... Commander... the... General?"
No one responded to the stuttering elder as everyone had their eyes locked on the chaos unfolding in the distance.
Houses that stood in the way were turned into rubble.
Screams and cries for help filled the air.
The once peaceful royal palace had descended into complete chaos.
Maids and servants were running to and fro in panic.
Many stumbled to the ground while others desperately searched for somewhere to hide, their terrified screams echoing throughout the palace.
Guards that barely survived from the claws of death were fleeing for their dear lives. Their armor was stained with blood.
"Undead..." the Old Elder whispered, his face drained of color.
His grip around his staff tightened unconsciously as his heart sank.
"How could this be?" another elder asked.
His voice trembled uncontrollably as he stared at the advancing undead army in disbelief.
"Where did they come from?" another elder asked with a trembling voice.
No matter how hard he searched his memories, he could not understand how an undead army had suddenly appeared inside the heart of the Scorpion King’s Palace.
This had gone beyond their imagination.
Who would have thought the enemies they were plotting against would not come through their gate but instead appear deep within their territory?
The impossible situation completely overturned everything they believed.
Just thinking about how their enemy did it sent a cold shiver down their spines.
While the elders were guessing how the enemy managed to enter deep into the palace without raising any alarm, the king had already guessed its origin.
Unlike the others, his thoughts immediately went to the one place capable of making such a miracle possible.
’The ancient hidden passage,’ he thought, and his expression turned unsightly.
His fists unconsciously clenched as his eyes darkened.
’How is this possible? Without the token, no one could pass through the passage without turning into dead bones.’
This was the main reason why the tunnel was left unguarded.
Without the token, the mysterious creatures inside the tunnel would devour the intruder whole.
And yet, here their enemy had passed through the passage with no problem at all.
Even though the king did not know how the necromancer managed to bypass the mysterious creatures, he would not allow the necromancer to continue living.
Who could the necromancer be?
A name suddenly popped into his mind.
The Grim Reaper.
Thinking about the Grim Reaper, the king took a deep breath, and his eyes flashed with intense killing intent.
The terrifying aura around him gradually intensified as rage slowly replaced his previous calmness.
Since he dared to step into this palace, he could forget about leaving.
Today, he would let the necromancer and the entire world know why he was the true king of the Bleeding Desert.
"Gather the able men immediately. We need to stop this at all costs," the king commanded.
His majestic voice echoed with unquestionable authority.
"We must make sure this battle does not spread throughout the city at all costs," he continued.
"Elders, support me, and let’s stop this vermin."
"Your Highness, I’d advise you to stay put and let us handle this. Without finding the necromancer behind these undead, you shouldn’t reveal your power yet."
"As long as we find the necromancer, you can take him down in one move," the Old Elder said in a grave tone.
Listening to him, all the elders nodded in agreement.
They clearly understood that without killing the root of the problem, more undead would continue returning to appear.
"Very well. Be quick and kill them all," the king said. His voice was forceful, filled with unwavering authority, while an intense killing intent radiated from his body.
