Chapter 180
The old man looked at Adam, his eyes clearly reflecting relief that he had made the right gamble.
Adam’s mouth parted slightly, so that was how he had been brought in.
However, he actually breathed a sigh of relief.
The Book Saint, who had been gravely injured while saving the world’s common people, was still a good person after all. He wasn’t a murderous demon. Nor was he going to kill him in this ancient tomb.
"Little friend, I am very sorry for pulling you in. I sincerely apologize!" The old man cupped his fists and was about to bow.
Adam hurriedly reached out to stop him, he couldn’t bear such a grand gesture from a Saint, but his hands passed right through the old man’s body.
The old man still followed through with a deep bow.
"Little friend, I am merely a wisp of a soul, and I have nothing good to compensate you with. I see you also love to read. Consider the collection of books outside as my apology. I wonder if little friend is satisfied?" The old man straightened his back, his voice still brimming with apology.
He knew that if he had gambled incorrectly, he would have led another innocent person to their death. Therefore, he felt extremely guilty toward Adam.
"Senior, your words are too heavy. Those books are more than enough. I will cherish them well!" Adam cupped his fists, actually feeling a bit embarrassed, so the owner had been watching all along while he was stealing those books.
"However, Senior, why was that evil thought in the shape of a human skin? And why did it possess other people’s flesh?"
"That is because expelling the evil thought required it to carry my own aura. So I cut off a piece of my skin to serve as a vessel!" The old man sighed, his figure suddenly turning slightly more translucent.
"But I never expected it would slowly grow into a complete skin over time."
"And as an evil thought, if it wanted to be completely born into this world, it needed a complete physical body. That is why it peeled off bodies it deemed suitable and wore them over itself."
"After a long passage of time, once the human skin and the flesh slowly fused, it would truly be born into this world, becoming a genuinely bloodthirsty demon!"
Adam suddenly understood, so that was it.
"Alright, little friend, the power of this wisp of my soul is about to be exhausted. I will send you out now!" The old man’s soul grew even fainter.
"Alright!" Adam nodded, he wanted to leave this place quickly.
The old man flashed with azure light, and Adam’s vision blurred, he was instantly teleported outside the ancient tomb.
Outside, Alice and the other two were conversing, all wearing the expressions of survivors who had narrowly escaped catastrophe.
Behind them stood groups of people. It seemed their reinforcements had arrived, and people from other factions were also surrounding the three, likely trying to understand the situation.
There was anger on their faces, as well as sorrow, alongside complex expressions, nine people went in, and only three remained.
Adam was about to leave. But upon seeing him, Alice and the others hurriedly walked toward him.
"Senior, thank you for saving our lives!" The three cupped their fists and thanked him in unison.
"No need. It’s nothing, I’ll be taking my leave now!" Adam shook his head and prepared to depart.
But Alice stopped him.
"Senior, your life-saving grace is unforgettable. We just discussed it and felt we must properly repay Senior." Alice smiled charmingly.
"We have arranged some rare delicacies at the best restaurant in the city. We hope Senior will do us the honor!"
"We hope Senior will do us the honor!"
"We hope Senior will do us the honor!" The military general and the other person also cupped their fists and chimed in.
Meanwhile, the others had swarmed over, faintly forming an encirclement around Adam.
Adam furrowed his brows and refused once again. "I am not going."
"Senior, just do us a favor!" Alice’s fair hand reached out to grab Adam’s arm, but he immediately dodged it.
"I will say it one more time. I am not going!" Adam said in a deep voice.
Alice’s smiling face instantly fell. "Senior, we are inviting you with good intentions, please don’t let down our goodwill!"
As her voice fell, the people from the major factions tightened their encirclement.
"What? If I don’t go, are you going to tie me up and drag me there?" Coldness flashed in Adam’s eyes.
"Damn it, don’t refuse a face when it’s given! Speak quickly, what did you get inside? What did you find?" Finally, someone couldn’t hold back and cursed directly.
"Senior, your strength is indeed high, but we have many people here. It won’t be easy for you to just leave!" Alice smiled sweetly, the greed in her eyes completely exposed.
"Senior, so many of our people died inside, yet we didn’t gain a single benefit, we won’t be able to report back. Since you saved us anyway, why not share a bit of what you obtained, so we can have something to show for it."
"As long as you let us fulfill our duties, we will let Senior go. How about it?" Alice smiled threateningly.
"Heh!" Adam sneered, these people were truly greedy.
"Let alone the fact that I didn’t obtain any opportunity, even if I did, I wouldn’t give it to you ungrateful wretches!"
After saying that, his aura skyrocketed, since when did any random person dare to threaten him?!
"Sword Opening the Heavenly Gate!"
Countless streams of sword qi shot from his palm, he directly decapitated Alice, the military general, and the other leader in a single strike.
The entire process took less than a second.
Everyone instantly widened their mouths in shock.
This man’s strength was even more terrifying than what Alice had told them, a single move had annihilated the three peak combatants on their side.
And they had deluded themselves into thinking they could suppress him with greater numbers.
"Spare us, Senior! Spare us, Senior, we were wrong!" Everyone instantly dropped to the ground, apologizing profusely.
