Chapter 181
"You don’t know you were wrong. You just know you are going to die."
Adam looked at these people, his expression cold and detached.
Countless streams of sword qi flew from his hand, completely crippling the cultivation of every last one of them. Then he transformed into a streak of flowing light and vanished over the horizon.
Some time later, Adam landed in a dense forest.
By now he had already changed his face again, reshaping himself into an elegant young noble with a radiant, jade-like complexion, finding a spot with decent scenery, he pulled out his storage bag and opened it. Packed inside were storage bags upon storage bags, crammed so tightly there was barely room to breathe.
The corners of his mouth curled upward. As expected of the Book Saint, his collection was truly vast.
He was just about to pull one out when a thought slammed into him, his pupils violently contracted, and cold sweat soaked through the back of his robes.
He had killed the Book Saint’s evil thoughts. Did that not mean the Demon Seed would be reborn inside the Book Saint’s heart?
It was not his own experience, and he had never encountered anything similar, his mind at the time had been consumed with leaving the ancient tomb as quickly as possible. It was perfectly normal that the thought had not crossed his mind then.
But such an important matter, there was no way that wisp of the Book Saint’s soul had not thought of it. Yet the old man had not even mentioned it. Instead, after finishing his piece, he had hurried Adam to leave.
That could only mean one thing, that wisp of a soul had done it on purpose.
Every hair on Adam’s body stood on end, he gulped hard.
A wave of nausea churned through his stomach, leaving him utterly sick.
A chill crawled down his spine, and his mind raced further into even more details.
If the restriction outside the tomb had truly been left by the Book Saint, a Shackle-Breaking Eight Trigrams formation of that level should never have been able to break it.
The might of a Saint was unfathomable, even after so much time, it was not something mere Mortal Supremes could shatter.
How could the Book Saint not have anticipated that? Unless the outer restriction was never set up by the Book Saint at all, and the only thing he actually left behind was the grand formation.
That formation had stood strong through the endless river of time, even with Adam’s current strength, he had not been able to walk out of it on his own.
But the old man who controlled the grand formation should have been a wisp of the Book Saint’s soul. Otherwise, who else could control it?
And if that old man’s true goal was to lure people into the formation to kill the evil thoughts, so they could be reborn anew within the Book Saint’s body, then why not do it himself? Was his strength insufficient? Or was he afraid the real Book Saint would sense it?
If the Book Saint was not dead, where was he? The place he had used to seal his evil thoughts had emerged into the world, he absolutely should have sensed it.
Countless mysteries swirled through Adam’s mind, he could feel it in his bones that a massive conspiracy lay hidden inside all of this.
Adam furrowed his brows and inspected himself carefully, confirming no strange marks or trackers had been planted on his body. Then he opened every storage bag and used his divine soul to inspect all the books within.
Finding no issues, he breathed a slight sigh of relief.
At the very least, there were no immediate problems on his end, this Heaven and Earth Upheaval was truly far too bizarre.
Adam shook his head, this was his first time roaming the cultivation world, and he had thought too little of the dangers around him. From now on, he had to keep his wits sharp.
His gaze drifted toward the Saint’s Tomb, and he hesitated briefly before making up his mind to go back for another look.
That old man had not attacked him, meaning he either could not, or lacked the confidence.
Omniscience of All Things had given no danger warnings either, so it was safe to return, the information he had gathered was still far too lacking.
But when Adam arrived at the site, the tomb was gone. Only a massive crater remained.
Lying in that crater were the corpses of cultivators who had charged in, the ruins of the village, and the broken bodies of innocent villagers, countless streams of blood had dyed the soil red, turning the pit into a living hell.
Along the crater’s edge, cultivators who had rushed over upon hearing the news stood staring down, their expressions solemn.
Where there was risk, there could be opportunity. Where there was opportunity, there would always be risk.
On the path to becoming stronger, death was as common as breathing.
Underneath a collapsed mud wall, a bright red doll was clutched by a tiny hand, but the rest of the child’s body was nowhere to be seen.
Watching this, Adam’s heart felt incredibly heavy, the words of that inn waiter echoed through his mind. "This spiritual energy recovery is truly a wonderful thing!"
But was it really a good thing?
"Young Master, you must have just arrived. What a pity, you are too late. The Saint’s Tomb has already vanished, leaving behind only this bleak scene." A familiar voice rang out by his ear.
He turned and found it was actually that fellow Codin.
"How did the Saint’s Tomb vanish?" Adam frowned and asked.
"I am not too sure myself. I stayed far away at the time. I only know that people from the major factions surrounded the last man to come out of the tomb, trying to rob him of his opportunities."
"But they kicked an iron plate, three Mortal Supremes were directly decapitated by that man in a single move, and the rest all had their cultivation crippled."
"Tsk, tsk, tsk, the strength of that man was truly terrifying." Codin clicked his tongue in wonder, his eyes full of absolute shock.
"And then, right as those factions were fleeing in a panic, the Saint’s Tomb suddenly quaked."
"That massive tomb slowly turned into a phantom and vanished."
