Chapter 2082: Part 2: A Web of Schemes
Darkmoon City
City Lord Conrad was waiting for the two Magic Lords to arrive. It was nighttime, yet he had not left his office. He feared that they could be here at any moment.
Swoosh!
A medium-sized aircraft stopped in front of the city. Seeing that the city’s airspace was covered in restrictions, the Magic Lords exited the aircraft.
They were Gaston and Duncan. Both of them appeared to be middle-aged men in their forties. Gaston had brown hair and eyes and was adorned in the clothes of the Black Tower.
An emblem of the Black Tower could be seen on the left side of his chest.
Duncan was a short wizard with black hair and eyes. He was wearing a similar uniform of the Black Tower.
"It appears that the City Lord is sleeping," Gaston commented.
"The waste should have been waiting for us outside," Duncan said with displeasure as well.
Swoosh!
The medium-sized aircraft departed from the place after dropping them off. It was going back to the Magic City.
Before the two of them could do anything, they saw someone rushing towards them. The City Guard Captain had alerted City Lord Conrad about the aircraft.
City Lord Conrad deactivated the restrictions before coming here.
Swoosh!
In a flash, he appeared before them. He saw both elders and greeted them.
"Harumph," Duncan gave a cold snort.
Hearing that, City Lord Conrad knew the elder was displeased. If he didn’t give a reason for being late, the elder might vent his anger on him.
He thought of something and said, "I apologize for coming late. A few rats have sneaked into the city. I have been looking for them everywhere."
"But I failed to find them," he added.
"We heard about it. That’s why we are here to investigate," Gaston said from the side.
"Let’s investigate," he then said to Duncan.
Hearing that, Duncan nodded his head.
Swoosh!
Both of them disappeared from the spot and went to the City Lord’s office.
City Lord Conrad heaved a sigh of relief. His quick thinking had saved his life. He then followed them from behind.
The City Guard Captain and the guards saw that City Lord Conrad had escaped disaster because they recognized Elder Duncan. He often visited the city.
They knew he was from the Black Magic Tower. Now that he had come with another elder, they didn’t know what was going on.
...
Meanwhile,
A few minutes ago,
I exited the coffee shop and resumed my journey to the third location. The third hideout was located at the far end of the city.
I started walking along the footpath. Apart from a few shops, the remaining shops were shut. Just as I thought of finding a cab..,
Swoosh!
I saw someone moving in the sky. The person was rushing towards the gate. When I looked closer, I recognized the person.
He was none other than City Lord Conrad of the city.
I saw him earlier on the news. Why was he going towards the gate in a rush? He had turned off the restrictions as well.
A hint of curiosity flashed in my eyes. Just as I slowed down my pace, not long after, I saw two more figures in midair.
They were going towards the City Lord’s office, and City Lord Conrad was following them from behind. I asked the system to check their strength.
[Ding! Those 2 are Magic Lords.]
I heard the system’s voice in my mind. My heart stirred. Don’t tell me they are from the Black Tower. Then why would City Lord Conrad follow them from behind?
I immediately felt the urge to release the zero puppet to follow them, but I stopped myself. Nobody knows about my presence in the city.
I can watch things unfold from the sidelines.
Next, I found a cab to get me to the nearest location to the third shady hideout. If one of them is Magic Lord Duncan, then things will soon become interesting.
...
Hideout
10 minutes later,
Amaira reached the hideout of her team members successfully. The Senior Wizard and other members were waiting for her.
When she entered the place, she greeted the Senior Wizard and the others.
The members were all shocked. They couldn’t believe she had gone back to Rockwell City alone and completed the mission.
She sat on the bench. The Senior Wizard was glad that Amaira had returned safely. She was one of the most capable wizards on the team.
He then asked, "What did you find?"
Hearing that, the members perked up their ears. They knew it was time to know the truth about what happened in Rockwell City.
Amaira collected her thoughts and began to explain. Her information was detailed enough.
It included information on the wizard families and the influential guests visiting from outside. She mentioned some names, which included the names of Appraiser Frank and his team.
She didn’t specifically lead the intel towards the appraiser team because she knew that the Senior Wizard would find out easily.
So she clearly stated the facts without showing any bias. The other members listened to it. They wanted to know who killed their member, Tim.
But the information was confusing. There were too many wizards present in the city during the attack. It could be any one of them.
The Senior Wizard heard everything and nodded his head in the end.
"I will share the information with the higher-ups. We cannot waste time on the wrong person."
Hearing that, the others agreed. Amaira didn’t say anything.
Instead, she asked, "Senior, what are we going to do here?"
Hearing that, the members let out small laughs one after another.
"You will be surprised," one of them said.
Amaira raised her eyebrows. She thought it was the usual plundering and killing. She wondered whether they had chosen a big wizard family this time.
She turned towards the Senior Wizard and waited for an answer from him.
The Senior Wizard was about to answer.
Buzz!
His organization device buzzed all of a sudden.
His expression changed. He took the device out and answered the call. He then learned that three Elders were already in the city.
Amaira and the others watched him.
