Chapter 776: Jiang Ran Gets Hit by a Car
"Mia, even if you don't feel like eating, at least drink some orange juice to replenish your energy. If you keep refusing to eat or drink, your own body will give out. And if he wakes up and sees you like this, he'll be devastated."
"Besides, when he opens his eyes, the first thing he'll want to see is you. Think about it—if you collapse from hunger and exhaustion, and he wakes up only to find you gone, how crushed would he be?!"
At the dinner table, one of Michelle's other two female disciples was trying to comfort Mia.
Her words seemed to reach Mia, who was his girlfriend. Mia reached out and picked up the glass filled with orange juice, staring down at the amber liquid. She closed her eyes and took a small sip.
After swallowing, she licked her lips and took another sip.
The orange juice was sweet and refreshing.
The others at the table breathed a collective sigh of relief seeing Mia finally manage to eat something. The last thing they needed was for one person to be in trouble, only to have another dragged down with them.
At that moment, the black man suddenly spoke up. "Teacher, how much longer do we have to stay in Aisen Town? Are we supposed to keep helping Chief Pete pry open that guy's mouth indefinitely?"
"If he never talks, are we just stuck here forever?"
Among Michelle's group—five men and three women who were both disciples and students—some were already married with spouses and children. Others had been working hard at their jobs for years. None of them had unlimited free time, and squeezing out this opportunity to come to Aisen Town together had been no small feat.
Michelle glanced at him.
"You do have a point. So if any of you have urgent matters to attend to, you can leave first."
Her tone was calm, carrying no hidden meaning.
Everyone knew their teacher cared deeply for them.
Bai Xiaoliang said, "Now that this car accident has happened, on top of the reason we came here in the first place, even if someone needs to leave for other business, we should at least resolve these two matters first."
No one else spoke up, simply nodding in agreement.
Lucas was among those who nodded.
That guy had maintained a completely composed expression from start to finish.
"I'm going to the restroom."
Mia stood up at that moment.
"I'll go with you."
One of the three women, a woman named Isabella, spoke up.
Then Isabella helped Mia walk to the restroom together.
After they finished and stood by the sink, Mia kept her head down, turning on the faucet and cupping cold water in her hands to splash her face. She seemed to be trying to force her mind into absolute calm through this method.
Isabella stood right beside her, her left hand wrapped around Mia's slender waist.
But her left hand was oddly restless, subtly moving up and down as if savoring the feel of Mia's waist.
However, since Mia's attention was completely elsewhere, she didn't notice anything unusual about Isabella at all.
…
8:05 PM.
Jiang Ran trudged out of class, exhausted.
His onboarding training for the day was finally over.
Back in the day, Jiang Ran used to have a thought.
If he could somehow return to his childhood and study hard, maybe he could change his future.
But now, thinking about it again, forget it. He was no longer the student he used to be—he simply couldn't focus anymore. Sitting through this onboarding training, he couldn't even pay attention to the lectures. Basically, he'd listen for one minute and zone out for the next.
After stepping out of the two-story building, Jiang Ran scanned his surroundings. It wasn't much different from the night before last—most shops were closed, and the streets were cold and empty.
Thinking about it, he couldn't help recalling the chainsaw murderer he'd encountered two nights ago. He wondered if he'd run into him again tonight.
"Hope I don't."
Jiang Ran silently prayed, then started walking toward the 25 Hours Hotel.
What Jiang Ran didn't notice was that not far behind him, a black Volkswagen sedan had quietly started its engine.
That black Volkswagen had been parked near the two-story building for several hours now.
It was like a black panther patiently waiting for its prey. The moment its target appeared, it launched its attack.
Once the car started moving, it suddenly surged forward, charging straight at Jiang Ran ahead.
It was late at night now, and even though the cold wind was howling loudly, the roar of the car engine and the sound of its approach were even louder. Curious, Jiang Ran turned back to look.
He never would have imagined that a car would be hurtling toward him from behind—after all, he was walking on the sidewalk, not in the middle of the road. Because of that, he turned around slowly, missing his only chance to survive.
Of course, just as the car was getting dangerously close, a danger warning suddenly blared in his mind. It was that sudden mental alarm that made him realize something terrible was about to happen.
Then the car slammed straight into him, sending him flying.
The impact hurled him into the wall of a building on the side.
From there, he crashed to the ground.
Lying face-down on the pavement, Jiang Ran kept vomiting blood, his entire body convulsing violently.
He looked like he was done for.
After hitting Jiang Ran, the black Volkswagen merely took a glance at him through the window before speeding away into the night.
Special Live Stream, Live Stream Room.
Mi—American Captain: [Finally going to die, but at least the method is pretty ordinary.]
Mi—Obediently Plant Cotton For Me: [If Jiang Ran dies, then we're left with Huo Yun, Zhu Hong, and Juliet. Zhu Hong's locked up in the police station now—probably useless. So the final winner comes down to Huo Yun and Juliet.]
Hua—Ultimate Rich Kid: [You guys are jumping to conclusions way too fast. How can you be so sure Jiang Ran's done for?]
Ultimate Rich Kid suddenly popped up in the public chat section.
Maple—White Supremacy: [Wouldn't it be more surprising if he didn't die? He got launched by a car and is lying on the ground in that miserable state—there's no way he's surviving. And there's no one around to call emergency services to take him to the hospital.]
Hua—I am the Hero: [You guys seriously underestimate Jiang Ran. The miracle's about to happen.]
Of course, just as I am the Hero typed that in the public chat section, no miracle occurred. Jiang Ran was still lying on the ground, vomiting blood, his body still convulsing.
He kept convulsing like that for several minutes until his entire body went completely still.
He looked like a corpse lying in the cold wind.
Waiting for some passerby to find him in the morning and call the police to collect his body.
Just another person who died far from home.
But this guy, who seemed so definitively dead in a foreign land, half an hour later, in the freezing night wind...
His left and right hands slowly began to stir. Inch by inch, he pushed himself up from the ground and struggled to his feet.
