Chapter 487: The Slumbering Ancient Emperor
RUMBLE!
Gu Sewei’s voice reached Li Wei’s ears.
A moment later, Li Wei felt the ground beneath his feet begin to shake violently, as if in an earthquake.
He hurriedly flew into the air.
Looking into the distance, he saw that the few people who had just awakened the Ice Emperor also looked panicked, scattering in all directions to escape the glacial ground that was cracking apart from the tremors.
Li Wei quickly flew back behind Saint Xi.
He looked down and saw a behemoth gradually rising from beneath the glacial landscape.
The entire glacial world was on the verge of collapse from its movements.
Watching the behemoth below, Li Wei suddenly understood the origin of the enormous ice cave before him and the omnipresent frigid air currents within the Extreme Cold Abyss.
The giant ice cave was the Ice Emperor’s breathing vent.
While the Ice Emperor slept, its unconscious exhalations had carved out a massive cave within the glacier.
Those frigid air currents were simply the Ice Emperor’s unconscious breaths.
After too much of this frigid air built up in the cave, it burst through the incredibly thick glacier, creating the crevasse Li Wei had passed through to get inside.
From the crevasse, it flowed into the Extreme Cold Abyss.
And from the bottom of the Extreme Cold Abyss, it rose all the way up and blew out into the open.
Li Wei found it hard to imagine that such terrifyingly cold currents were merely the unconscious breaths of the Ice Emperor.
He felt foolish for his earlier thought of wanting to challenge the Ice Emperor.
The Ice Emperor’s power had likely long surpassed anyone’s imagination.
RUMBLE!
The entire glacier trembled violently with the Ice Emperor’s movements.
It seemed as if the whole glacier was about to collapse.
Gu Sewei nervously grabbed Li Wei’s arm and asked in a panic, "What do we do now?"
Li Wei glanced down at the now-awakened Ice Emperor.
He quickly made a decision, saying, "Let’s get out of here first. It’s too dangerous to stay."
If he was buried hundreds of thousands of meters underground by the collapsing glacier, Li Wei wasn’t sure if he’d ever have a chance to get out.
Hearing Li Wei’s command, Saint Xi flew toward the only exit at top speed.
Li Wei glanced back at the group that had awakened the Ice Emperor.
Some were wailing as they fell into the cracks splitting open in the glacier.
Even Tier Six Professionals, or even Legendary Professionals, were like ants struggling uselessly in the face of a cataclysm of this magnitude.
Gu Sewei saw it too. "The Ice Emperor’s power is fundamentally beyond human control," she said sorrowfully.
Li Wei silently agreed but didn’t respond to Gu Sewei.
In his view, humans truly couldn’t control the Ice Emperor’s power.
But with just a little guidance, one could direct the Ice Emperor’s destructive and terrifying power toward their own ends.
Many accidents might happen in the process.
But for some people, the ends have always justified the means.
WHOOSH!
Carrying Li Wei and Gu Sewei, Saint Xi shot out of the glacial crevasse and into the boundless, pitch-black Extreme Cold Abyss.
Without pausing, Saint Xi tilted its head up and flew straight for the top of the Extreme Cold Abyss.
Behind them, the massive glacier was shifting like a living creature.
The hundreds-of-meters-thick glacier fractured and moved outward, as if being squeezed out by an immense force.
The colossal glacier that entombed the Ice Emperor was undergoing an unprecedented transformation.
Li Wei gazed at the glacier vanishing behind them.
He murmured, "Could that glacier be a frozen ocean from the Age of Extreme Night?"
Gu Sewei had already recovered from her earlier pessimism.
Encountering something so far beyond one’s own capabilities could easily evoke feelings of pessimism and despair. That was how Gu Sewei had been affected by the Ice Emperor.
After leaving that area, her emotions gradually stabilized.
Hearing Li Wei’s muttering, she paused for a moment, then said, "It’s possible. Historical records state that during the Age of Extreme Day, a vast ocean surrounded the Extreme Cold Abyss."
Gu Sewei thought of the Ice Emperor’s appearance. Its form strongly resembled that of a giant creature that could only exist in the great seas.
"You mean the Ice Emperor used to live in the sea?" Gu Sewei asked.
Li Wei nodded. "It’s possible. Usually, only the oceans can nurture creatures of such immense size."
Even if the Extreme North Icefield once had an ocean, it was still baffling that the Ice Emperor would live in a place like this.
No matter how you looked at it, the far vaster Endless Sea seemed more suitable for a super Magic Beast of the Ice Emperor’s size.
Why would the Ice Emperor appear here?
This was a question with no easy answer.
If they could communicate with the Ice Emperor, perhaps they could get an answer.
Li Wei thought this was highly unlikely.
Compared to the Ice Emperor, a human’s size was like that of an ant to a human.
Or even smaller, like an invisible microbe.
What human would bother answering a microbe’s questions?
Li Wei couldn’t help but feel that this world still held things that were far too far beyond imagination.
In terms of sheer size, perhaps not even the Divine Spirits could compare to the Ice Emperor.
Size, however, was only one part of power.
The Divine Spirits should still be stronger than the Ice Emperor.
WHOOSH!
After a period of flying through the dim, lightless space, a faint glimmer of light finally appeared overhead.
A while later, with a great gust of wind, Saint Xi carried Li Wei and Gu Sewei out of the Extreme Cold Abyss.
Gu Sewei was so dazzled by the brilliant sunlight that she could barely open her eyes.
The sunlight felt scorching hot to her.
Gu Sewei pulled up her hood and gripped her Frost Staff, feeling waves of coolness from it.
Her body temperature felt cool enough, but that couldn’t change the fact that the sunlight outside was intensely hot and blinding.
Li Wei, on the other hand, was greatly enjoying the sunlight of the extreme day shining down over the Extreme Cold Abyss.
Without even actively cultivating, he could feel the Power of the Scorching Sun gradually seeping into his body.
His Spiritual Sun in his Sea of Spiritual had been significantly drained during their time in the Extreme Cold Abyss. Now, exposed to the Sun, the Spiritual Sun began to actively absorb the Power of the Scorching Sun to restore its strength.
Saint Xi glanced around and flew toward the edge of the Extreme Cold Abyss.
They were currently flying high above the Extreme Cold Abyss, still a considerable distance from the edge.
Li Wei looked around and saw that the changes from hundreds of thousands of meters below had not yet reached the surface.
Even though the Ice Emperor had awakened, it would likely take some time for it to leave the subterranean glacial world.
Saint Xi’s stomach rumbled again.
"Li Wei, I’m starving to death!"
Li Wei gazed into the distance and said, "We’ll go find you something to eat right now."
When it wasn’t full, Saint Xi felt like it couldn’t even use its breath attack.
Forget a breath attack; it couldn’t even spit.
And a dragon’s saliva was a supreme treasure to ordinary creatures.
The Ice Emperor had awakened. That was an unchangeable fact.
Li Wei and Gu Sewei could only return to the Ice and Snow City first, report the outcome to the Ice Queen, and see what to do next.
And they could also solve Saint Xi’s food problem while they were at it.
