Chapter 238 Wish you happiness

That was a truly unique way to offer comfort.

He didn’t know what else to say, so he could only offer sincerely, “I wish you happiness.”

Alana smiled. “Thank you.”

After saying goodbye to Luca, Alana returned feeling refreshed.

Actually, if Cole could be as sensible as Luca in wishing her well, how wonderful that would be?

She would have wished him well just as openly.

They couldn’t be lovers, but they could still be friends, at least when they meet, it wouldn’t be awkward.

She hoped that one day, Cole would be able to let go of his feelings too.

Alana returned to Stephan’s house. She had barely closed the door when she

heard the doorbell ring.

Had Stephan come back?

But even if he had come back, he wouldn’t ring the doorbell at his own place, would he? Besides, he said he had a business dinner tonight and wouldn’t be back this early.

Alana didn’t open the door right away; instead, she looked through the peephole to see who was there.

To her surprise, she saw Darla.

Darla was wearing a cream-colored long dress and carrying an LV bag, standing outside the door with poise and grace, exuding an air of both nobility and gentleness. What’s going on?

Why had Darla suddenly dropped by?

The doorbell rang incessantly.

She seemed determined not to give up until the owner opened the door. Alana bit her lip, hesitating over whether to open the door.

If she opened the door, she wouldn’t be able to hide the fact that she was Stephan’s girlfriend...

Seeing that the door remained closed, Darla spoke up, “Stephan, I know you’re home. Could you please come out for a moment? Mrs. Hudson asked me to bring you something.” Since the lights were on in the apartment, she was certain someone was home.

Plus, just a moment ago, she’d seen a figure moving by the window.

But she never imagined that the person inside wasn’t Stephan, but...

Upon hearing Darla’s words, Alana guessed that she was determined to see Alana.

After a moment of silence, she reached for the doorknob, ready to open the door and step out.

But just as she turned the knob, the sound of a car horn blared from outside. Alana immediately looked up and peered through the peephole.

She saw Stephan’s black Bentley.

Was he back?

Stephan was nowhere to be seen. Darla was just about to ring the doorbell again.

But just then, a beam of light shone on her, accompanied by a piercing car horn.

Darla instinctively shielded her eyes with her hand, but it did little to block the blinding glare.

Not until the light dimmed. Darla finally felt a little more comfortable.

She opened her eyes and took a long moment to adjust before she could make out the man sitting in the car.

He was in the driver’s seat, his arm casually draped over the window. The deep night shrouded him, blurring his handsome features and making him seem even more mysterious and inscrutable.

Darla froze.

If the man in the car was Stephan, then who exactly was the person in the house?

It was obvious who it was.

She bit her lip and walked up to the car.

Stephan looked up at her, his tone as aloof as ever. “Miss Gordon, standing at my

doorstep...is there something you need?”

Darla said, “Your mother asked me to bring you something.”

Stephan showed no emotion. “What is it?”

Darla handed him a bag. “I don’t know what’s inside, but she told me I had to make sure you received it personally.”

Stephan took the bag without expression, didn’t even glance at it, and casually tossed it into the passenger seat.

“Alright, you can go now.”

Darla could tell Stephan didn’t want to deal with her, but perhaps she was just

masochistic, the more he ignored her, the more she wanted to get close to him and win him over.

“Are you free this weekend? I have two movie coupons. Want to go together?”

Stephan chuckled. “Miss Gordon, I thought I told you I have a girlfriend.”

Darla curled her lips. “Just because you have a girlfriend, does that mean you can’t go out to the movies with other members of the opposite sex?”

Stephan remained impassive. “No, I can’t, at least, not with someone of the opposite sex who has her eyes on me.”

Darla really wouldn’t have guessed that Stephan was such a man of principle.

She knew plenty of playboys in her social circles, which one of them wasn’t a real womanizer?

Even if they had girlfriends, fiancées, or even wives by their sides, it didn’t stop them from having flings and playing the field.

The more chaotic his friends’ lives were, the more rare and precious a man like Stephan seemed.

She despised men who were fickle and indecisive; she wanted a man who would be

devoted solely to her, treat her as his one and only, and love and be loyal to her with all his heart.

She never imagined she would find such a man. Even less did she expect that she’d arrived too late, that this man’s heart already belonged to someone else.

Stephan gripped the steering wheel, his tone utterly detached. “Miss Gordon, please move out of the way. I need to drive.”

Darla didn’t move for a moment. “Stephan, the lights are on at your place. I just saw a figure moving around inside. Could a burglar have gotten in?”

She knew exactly who was inside the house. This neighborhood was full of high-end condos with top-notch security measures, there was no way a burglar could have gotten in.

But she deliberately brought it up to hear him admit it and test his reaction.

Stephan curled the corners of his lips and admitted it outright, “You’re wrong. That wasn’t a burglar, that was my girlfriend.”

Darla’s breath caught in her throat. She never expected him to admit it so bluntly. She clenched her teeth, a pang of jealousy welling up inside her.

“Are you two living together?”

Hearing the accusatory tone in Darla’s voice, Stephan found it amusing. “Miss Gordon, what business is it of yours?”

Darla clenched her fists. “Living together before marriage, if word gets out, it won’t reflect well on a young woman. Besides, if she were a girl from a respectable family, she wouldn’t just casually move in with a man!”

“Stephan, don’t let her take advantage of your feelings!”

Instead of getting angry, Stephan smiled. “You’re right. But living together was my

idea, it has nothing to do with her. I made the request, so I’ll take responsibility. That’s why I’m going to marry her.”

Darla couldn’t believe it. Was he serious?

Seeing Darla’s reaction, Stephan continued bluntly, “Besides, compared to my girlfriend, Miss Gordon is the one acting frivolously. You knew I had a girlfriend, yet you still asked me out to the movies. Isn’t that the behavior of a homewrecker?”

Hearing this, Darla couldn’t help but blush.

She knew her behavior was despicable, but she simply couldn’t control herself.

Perhaps she simply couldn’t believe that someone as outstanding as herself would lose to a stranger.

Gritting her teeth, she said, “Stephan, I want to meet your girlfriend. I want to know exactly how I’m inferior to her.”

Unless she met her, she would never know exactly how she fell short compared to that woman.

Stephan remained expressionless. “Boring.”

Darla deliberately provoked him. “By not letting me meet your girlfriend, are you implying she’s not good enough to show off?”

“That’s not it. I simply don’t think you’re worthy of meeting her. And in my eyes and in my heart, you fall short of her in every

way...you lose to her in every aspect.

Compared to her, you’re nothing. Is that clear enough?”

Darla laughed through gritted teeth. He was as sharp-tongued as ever, a single

remark was enough to make her chest ache with frustration.

Stephan honked the horn impatiently. “I’ll say it again: move out of the way.”

Darla gritted her teeth but stepped aside anyway.
