The Hainan Airlines Westin Hotel.

As one of Marriott’s signature brands, the hotel, which opened in ’07, was definitively among the most high-end establishments in Yangcheng at the time.

Even the most basic room with a king-size bed cost over six hundred a night, but of course, Young Master Jiang wasn’t short on cash.

An expensive room for two?

—Jiang He wanted it, Jiang He got it.

Night deepened over Tianhe District as the two of them walked side-by-side into the hotel lobby.

A high-end hotel in ’08 wasn’t all that different from its future counterparts.

Marble floors, a giant crystal chandelier, and the Westin’s classic White Tea fragrance.

The wall behind the front desk was dark, solid wood. A few receptionists stood in crisp uniforms, wearing smiles.

It was Shen Yu’s first time in such a high-end hotel. Though her heart was pounding, she played it cool.

Jiang He was about to share a room with the girl he’d been dreaming of, and his own heart was stirring restlessly. But he, too, played it cool.

And so, Mr. and Ms. Relaxed went to the front desk to check in.

As they checked in, Shen Yu stood demurely just half a step behind Jiang He. With her hands clasped behind her back, she looked all around, feigning extreme interest in the hotel’s decor.

"Sir, your deluxe twin room. Please take your key card."

"Thank you." Jiang He accepted the key card and turned to Shen Yu. "Let’s go."

"Oh, right. Okay." Shen Yu immediately and demurely followed him.

The elevator rose smoothly.

The two of them remained silent, a tacit understanding between them.

Shen Yu continued to look all around her... Yes, it seemed she was also quite an expert on the elevator’s interior design.

He pushed the door open to reveal a classic, luxurious room.

One rather distinct feature of the era was the coil of yellow ethernet cable still placed on the writing desk.

In the corner minibar, bottles of Evian mineral water and several types of liquor were neatly arranged.

In the center of the room were two wide twin beds, set side-by-side and separated by an elegant wooden nightstand.

Once inside the room, the two naturally became even *more* relaxed, acting as if they were seasoned regulars at high-end hotels...

Shen Yu dropped her bag and sat on the edge of the bed. Letting out a long sigh, she stretched dramatically. "Phew, I’m pretty tired from today. Getting a little sleepy, I think I’m ready for bed."

Meanwhile, Jiang He was standing in the entryway.

First, he shut the door firmly and turned the lock. Then, he pulled the metal security chain across and slid it into its track.

He’d done all this out of a concern for safety, but the moment he finished, Jiang He suddenly froze.

He turned around, his gaze meeting Shen Yu’s wide, innocent eyes.

He immediately realized that in this enclosed space, just the two of them, his act of thoroughly locking and chaining the door—essentially sealing them in—could be... misinterpreted.

Jiang He cleared his throat, averting his gaze slightly as he explained with forced calm, "Uh... I bolted the door just in case of any accidents, you know, like a drunk guest trying to open the wrong door or something. I didn’t mean anything else by it."

Sitting on the edge of the bed, Shen Yu gently swung her legs and offered a very "relaxed" smile of her own, as if completely unbothered. "Mhm, you don’t have to explain. I get it."

Jiang He nodded. "Just didn’t want you to get the wrong idea."

Shen Yu waved her hand. "I won’t, I won’t. I didn’t get the wrong idea at all."

Jiang He: "Okay, good."

The atmosphere grew a little awkward.

Shen Yu quickly changed the subject. "You were walking all evening, is your foot okay?"

"It’s fine. It stopped hurting a while ago."

"Oh, I see... Right! Which bed do you want? The one by the window or the one on the inside?"

"You take the one on the inside. I’ll take the one by the window."

The reason was simple: Jiang He knew she preferred sleeping on the inner side of the room. It made her feel more secure.

Shen Yu paused for a moment when she heard his answer.

She did, in fact, prefer the bed on the inside.

She glanced over at Jiang He, who was taking off his jacket, and a warm feeling spread silently through her heart.

It was because of these small, ever-present details that she felt so strongly for him—strongly enough to throw caution to the wind and travel halfway across China to be with him.

That Dr. Jiang... he always managed to hit every single one of her comfort zones perfectly.

It even gave her a powerful sense of destiny, making her feel:

’Dr. Jiang and I are just so compatible. It’s like we were meant to be.’

"Well, I’m going to sleep then!" Feeling a rush of bashfulness from her surging emotions, Shen Yu immediately turned and made to dive under the covers.

"Wait," Jiang He called out.

Shen Yu paused and looked back at him. "What is it?"

Jiang He almost instinctively blurted out a one-word answer: "You."

It was a little inside joke from their past life, something he’d say to tease her. Usually, after he said it, Teacher Shen would playfully punch him and pout, "You’re terrible!"

’Good thing my brain didn’t short-circuit.’

Jiang He rubbed his chin and said with a perfectly straight face, "I meant, you should take off your makeup first. Sleeping in it is bad for your skin. Your face will be all dry in the morning."

Shen Yu blinked, struck once again by Dr. Jiang’s attentiveness.

In her haste to escape the heart-pounding atmosphere, she’d completely forgotten about it.

"Oh... okay," she answered in a small voice, quickly scurrying into the bathroom, afraid he would see the blush burning across her cheeks.

About ten minutes later, Shen Yu emerged from the bathroom, all washed up.

Without her makeup, she had a fresh, natural beauty, like a flower after rain. The warm steam from her wash had left a faint pink blush on her cheeks.

’So cute, I could just take a bite...’ Jiang He quickly averted his eyes and headed for the bathroom. "I’m going to go take a shower."

They crossed paths in the short hallway. Seeing his slightly labored movements, Shen Yu’s brow furrowed, and she couldn’t help but ask, "With your leg like that... is it going to be hard to shower? Do you... need my help?"

Jiang He stopped in his tracks. "Huh?"

Shen Yu froze as well. "Hm?"

They stared at each other, wide-eyed and speechless.
