Chapter 959 - 468: Four Great Generals of the Green Dragon
Many of the high-tier combat forces remained hidden, biding their time.
The casualties primarily consisted of the sheer masses of ordinary soldiers and monsters.
This was especially true for the latter. While human soldiers and Bottom Adventurers could still rely on geographical advantages and tactical equipment, the wild monster cannon fodder were completely expendable. To the upper echelons of the Green Dragon Army, these creatures were merely tools to be summoned at will, and their deaths caused no heartache.
They continued to conscript massive numbers of wild Demons to the front lines. Their greatest purpose was simply to deplete humanity’s war reserves and claim the lives of its soldiers.
However, the death of an Extraordinary Demon was an entirely different matter.
When ordinary monsters died in droves, more laborers could easily be recruited to replace them. But the death of an Extraordinary Demon left a void in their high-tier combat forces that could not be quickly replenished. After all, they could not simply invade other monster factions to plunder their Extraordinary individuals.
Therefore, faced with this open scheme, the monster generals found themselves deeply conflicted. They could not just turn a blind eye, but if they charged into a known trap and suffered heavy losses, they would inevitably face severe punishment.
Furthermore, the fact that the human named Gauss had managed to kill those young masters in the forest and escape unscathed proved that his strength was far from simple. If an ordinary Extraordinary Demon were sent out, it might not even be able to defeat the human himself, let alone force the humans to reveal their hidden trump cards.
As for personally taking the field and charging into a potential ambush, that option had never even crossed their minds.
While the Rot-Winged Dragon Bat and the Two-legged Flying Dragon Lord had engaged the human higher-ups in combat several times, they had only done so because of their exceptional mobility, which allowed them to withdraw from the battlefield at any moment. Even then, they primarily remained in the airspace above the main battlefield, over ten kilometers away from the city walls. They never ventured too close to the human base camp.
"We have no choice but to send it," the goblin leader Snaz said after a moment of silence. "It has been with us for the shortest amount of time, after all. Besides, its strength is quite outstanding. I can step in and help pin down the enemy."
Hearing this, the other leaders instantly understood who he was referring to.
"The Tyrant and I can cover the front lines to force the human higher-ups to stay on the main battlefield. That will buy it enough time to strike," the Two-legged Flying Dragon leader added.
The Demon the four of them were discussing was an Extraordinary Centaur that had just joined the Green Dragon Army in recent years.
Had it not been for its lack of seniority, the Green Dragon Queen would never have dispatched it from the Jade Forest to garrison the recently captured Black Water Town, subsequently designating that area as its territory. Because of this, its actual status within the Green Dragon Army was quite low, and it shared no deep bonds with the four Demon leaders. Now that war had broken out, it had brought its elite centaur army to the front lines to provide support.
"Doesn’t it want to earn merits in exchange for a vaster territory? We will just give it this excellent opportunity."
The Rot-Winged Dragon Bat, known by the title "Warty Tyrant," simply looked up and glanced at the goblin leader who had made the suggestion. As fellow mixed-bloods, that mutant centaur was actually a Power it could potentially win over to its side, as both of them shared the similar bestowed bloodline of the Green Dragon Matriarch. However, it ultimately did not voice any objections.
Although Snaz harbored ulterior motives, that Extraordinary Centaur was indeed an excellent candidate.
Its speed was tremendous, allowing it to rapidly close in on the target’s location. Furthermore, since it had previously been in close-quarters combat with Gauss, it possessed far more intelligence on him compared to the other Extraordinary Demons.
Most importantly, the blessed bloodline flowing through its veins allowed it to explosively unleash a stronger Power at a moment’s notice. This meant it wouldn’t just be throwing its life away, unlike some of the other Extraordinary Demons.
At the very least, that human named Gauss had been forced to flee from it in panic not too long ago. Since not much time had passed since that encounter, the gap in strength between the two sides could not have changed drastically.
"Then it is decided."
