Synopsis
For six generations, the Valcourt family staff remained in the vault, both feared and entirely ineffective—a "cursed" heirloom that broke every wielder who attempted to subdue it. Everyone believed it required blood, sacrifice, and tragedy. The kind of tales that legends are crafted from. However, it did not require any of that. To make a long story short, when the unsuccessful spare heir Elian Valcourt receives the staff that nobody desired, he anticipates embarrassment, the same kind he had endured throughout his entire existence. What he discovers instead is a cocky, ancient magical intelligence revealing to him that the seal reacts to aesthetic harmony rather than willpower—and that every ancestor before him met an average fate because none possessed the courage to genuinely attempt to be different for once. In other words, the staff enhanced your power the more stylishly you dressed, and the more outrageous your outfit was. Now, Elian finds himself having to relearn magic from the ground up, his abilities directly correlating with how boldly he embraces a look that the entire kingdom finds perplexing. Meanwhile, war councils, rival academies, and cultists obsessed with prophecies treat this as completely routine sword-and-sorcery affairs. They claimed the staff was cursed. It turns out, someone had misinterpreted the term 'audacious' along the way.
