Chapter 36: Ch 36- Survival
Mo Chen instinctively closed his eyes.
He was certain the claws were about to tear through his body but nothing happened.
Instead, he heard a heavy thud beside him.
Bang!
Mo Chen slowly opened his eyes.
The three Lightning Wolves that had surrounded him were already lying on the ground. One had been killed instantly, while the other two were struggling to move.
"What..."
Before he could understand what had happened, he saw Mo Yuan standing nearby.
"Are you alright?"
Mo Yuan looked at him calmly.
Mo Chen stared at him for a moment before quickly nodding.
"I’m fine. You... you saved me."
"It was nothing. Be careful next time."
Mo Yuan said casually, as if killing those beasts had been nothing special.
In reality, he had deliberately controlled his strength. He had only used enough power to kill the wolves without making his performance look too abnormal.
Before Mo Chen could say anything else, another Lightning Wolf rushed toward them.
Mo Yuan immediately stepped forward.
"Stay back."
He swung his saber.
The wolf was sent flying and crashed heavily onto the ground.
Mo Chen looked at Mo Yuan with surprise.
This guy was stronger than he had expected.
"Thank you!"
Mo Chen shouted before turning around and joining the others again.
The battle continued.
With Mo Yuan helping from the side, the pressure on the other three decreased greatly. Whenever a Lightning Wolf tried to break through their formation, Mo Yuan would quietly intercept it and finish it with a few simple attacks.
He never used too much strength and speed.
To the others, it only seemed like Mo Yuan had good combat skills and was much more experienced than an ordinary Late Stage Origin Vessel Realm cultivator.
"Don’t give them a chance to surround us!"
Mo Shan shouted.
The four of them quickly adjusted their formation.
Mo Shan stood at the front, blocking the strongest attacks. Ha Fei attacked from the side with his Axe, while Yin Yue and Mo Chen supported them from behind.
Mo Yuan moved around the battlefield, helping wherever the pressure was greatest.
One Lightning Wolf fell.
Then another.
The number of wolves quickly decreased.
The remaining Lightning Wolves became more violent, but they were no longer able to threaten the team like before.
Finally, Mo Shan found an opening.
"Now!"
He rushed forward and stabbed his sword straight through the chest of the last Lightning Wolf.
The beast let out a painful howl before collapsing onto the ground.
Silence returned to the forest.
The four of them stood there, breathing heavily. There were corpses of Lightning Wolves scattered around them, and blood had stained the ground.
Ha Fei wiped the sweat from his forehead and let out a long breath.
"Finally finished."
Yin Yue looked around before turning toward Mo Yuan.
"Mo Yuan, thank you."
Mo Yuan shook his head.
"No need to thank me. We are a team."
Mo Chen walked over and smiled bitterly.
"If you hadn’t helped me just now, I would probably be lying there with the other wolves."
Mo Yuan smiled lightly.
"You would have survived somehow."
"No way."
Mo Chen immediately shook his head.
"Those three attacked together. I couldn’t dodge them."
Mo Shan also walked over.
"Enough. We can talk about it later. Mo Yuan, this time you really helped us. Without you, we might have suffered serious injuries, and someone could even have died."
Ha Fei nodded.
"That’s right. Those wolves were much stronger than ordinary Peak Low-level Beasts because of their Lightning Talent."
Mo Yuan didn’t say anything.
He simply looked toward the surrounding forest.
"We should leave now."
Everyone became serious.
Mo Shan immediately understood what he meant.
"You’re right."
He looked at the blood covering the ground.
"The smell will attract more beasts. If we stay here too long, we might attract something stronger."
"Then let’s move."
Yin Yue quickly gathered her things.
The four of them did not waste any more time.
After making sure they had nothing important left behind, they quickly left the battlefield and continued toward their assigned destination.
Mo Yuan followed the others as they continued toward their assigned area.
While walking, he quietly thought about his next plan.
’I should first finish the mission with them. Once the area is cleared, I’ll leave the team and head toward the Moonscale Salamander’s location.’
The location of the Moonscale Salamanders was about thirty kilometers away from their current destination. It wasn’t too far for Mo Yuan, especially with his current speed, but he didn’t want to leave the team before their mission was completed.
After all, they had already fought together, and leaving them in the middle of the mission would be somewhat irresponsible.
’Once we finish clearing this area, I’ll have plenty of time to search for the Moonscale Salamander.’
Mo Yuan made up his mind and continued walking.
The journey was mostly peaceful after the battle with the Lightning Wolves. They encountered several low-level beasts along the way, but none of them were strong enough to cause trouble for the team.
Whenever a beast appeared, Mo Shan and the others dealt with it quickly.
Mo Yuan also participated in the fights, but he continued to hide his true strength.
The four members of the team gradually became more comfortable fighting alongside him. By now, Mo Shan no longer treated Mo Yuan as a newcomer.
Although Mo Yuan had only joined their team recently, his combat ability had already earned their respect.
The wilderness was vast, and traveling thirty kilometers was not something that could be done in a short time. The team moved carefully, avoiding dangerous areas whenever possible.
They also stopped several times to rest and check their surroundings.
Fortunately, they didn’t encounter any Intermediate Beasts. If they encountered one, they would have no choice but to retreat.
After traveling for an entire day, the team finally reached their designated area.
Mo Shan stopped and looked at the surroundings.
"We’re here."
Ha Fei looked ahead.
"So this is the place we’re supposed to clear?"
Yin Yue took out the map and compared it with their surroundings before nodding.
"Yes. This should be the area assigned to our team."
Mo Chen also looked around carefully.
"There are quite a few beast tracks nearby."
Mo Yuan stood quietly behind them, looking into the distance.
They had finally arrived.
Now, they could begin the real mission and once this area was completely cleared, he would leave the team.
