Chapter 35: Ch 35- Lightning Wolves
Five days later.
The four members of the team had already traveled nearly thirty kilometers from Dong Hai Base. Along the way, they encountered quite a few feral beasts and low-level beasts. These beasts were not strong enough to cause them any real trouble, so the team dealt with them quickly and continued moving without wasting too much time.
Mo Shan usually walked at the front, carefully watching the surroundings while the others followed behind him. Whenever they encountered a low-level beast, Mo Shan and Ha Fei would take the lead, while Yin Yue and Mu Chen supported them from the sides. Their teamwork was clearly practiced, and it was obvious that they had worked together many times before.
Mo Yuan followed among them, quietly observing the surroundings.
He had already noticed that this team was quite experienced. Although none of them had reached the Origin Core Realm, all four were at the Late Stage of the Origin Vessel Realm, which meant they could easily deal with ordinary low-level beasts.
"How much farther?"
Ha Fei looked ahead and asked while carrying his heavy weapon over his shoulder.
"We should be close."
Mo Shan took out the map and glanced at it before answering.
"We have already traveled around thirty kilometers. According to the information we received, the area we’re responsible for should be another twenty-five kilometers ahead."
"So we’re almost there," Yin Yue said.
She looked around while speaking. Her expression was calm, but she did not lower her guard.
"Yes. Once we reach the designated area, we’ll first scout the surroundings and then begin clearing the beasts."
Mo Shan folded the map and put it away.
"Remember, our mission is mainly to clear low-level beasts. If we encounter an Intermediate Beast, don’t try to be heroes. Immediately retreat and report its location."
"Understood."
Ha Fei nodded.
Mu Chen also nodded silently.
Mo Yuan didn’t say anything. He simply continued walking while quietly sensing the surroundings.
The further they traveled, the more dangerous the wilderness became. The number of beasts they encountered had already increased compared to when they first left Dong Hai Base. However, most of them were still low-level beasts, so the team was able to deal with them without much trouble.
After another hour of travel, Mo Shan suddenly stopped.
The other three immediately noticed his unusual behavior and stopped as well.
"What happened?" Ha Fei asked.
Mo Shan didn’t answer immediately.
His expression had become serious as he slowly looked toward the forest ahead.
"Something is wrong."
The atmosphere suddenly became quiet.
Mo Yuan narrowed his eyes.
He could faintly hear strange sounds coming from all around them. At first, they were barely noticeable, but after focusing carefully, he could hear the sound of footsteps moving through the grass.
One direction.
Then another.
Then another.
They were being surrounded.
"Everyone, be careful."
Mo Shan slowly drew his sword.
"There are beasts nearby."
Ha Fei immediately tightened his grip on his weapon.
"How many?"
"Quite a few."
Mo Shan’s expression became even more serious.
The next moment, a pair of silver-gray eyes appeared among the trees.
Then another pair.
Then another.
Soon, countless figures slowly emerged from the surrounding forest.
One.
Five.
Ten.
Twenty!
The four members of the team were completely surrounded.
The beasts were wolves, but they were much larger than ordinary wolves. Their bodies were covered in dark gray fur, while faint blue lines could be seen running across their bodies like tiny bolts of lightning. Their eyes glowed with a cold, blue light, and small sparks occasionally jumped between their claws.
"Lightning Wolves..."
Yin Yue’s face changed slightly.
Mo Shan’s expression became extremely serious.
"Twenty of them."
All twenty Lightning Wolves were Peak Low-level Beasts.
Normally, twenty Peak Low-level Beasts would not necessarily be enough to make a team of four Late Stage Origin Vessel Realm Cultivators panic.
But these were not ordinary Peak Low-level Beasts. Every single one of them possessed Lightning Talent.
Lightning greatly increased their speed and destructive power. Once they attacked together, even a Late Stage Origin Vessel Realm Cultivator could be seriously injured if they made a mistake.
Ha Fei’s face became slightly ugly.
"Why are there so many of them together?"
"How I am supposed to know."
Mo Shan’s grip on his sword tightened.
The wolves slowly lowered their bodies. Blue lightning began to flicker around their claws.
Zzzzt!
A sharp electrical sound echoed through the forest.
One wolf stepped forward.
Then another.
The other wolves followed.
The four members of the team were now completely surrounded, with Lightning Wolves blocking every direction they could retreat toward.
Mo Yuan stood among them, his eyes calmly sweeping across the twenty beasts.
His expression didn’t change but the other four clearly understood the danger they were facing.
"Everyone, get ready."
Mo Shan raised his sword.
"These beasts are going to attack!"
The Lightning Wolves attacked almost at the same time.
"Now!"
Mo Shan shouted and swung his sword.
Clang!
A Lightning Wolf leaped toward him, its claws carrying faint blue lightning. Mo Shan stepped sideways and slashed upward, cutting through the wolf’s neck. Blood splashed onto the ground as the beast fell heavily.
"One down!"
Ha Fei roared and charged forward. His heavy weapon smashed into another Lightning Wolf, sending it rolling several meters away. Before it could get back up, Ha Fei rushed forward and finished it with another strike.
"Don’t let them surround us!"
Yin Yue shouted.
The remaining wolves rushed forward from every direction. Their speed was extremely fast, and the lightning around their bodies made their movements even harder to predict.
Mo Yuan also moved.
He deliberately controlled his strength and acted as if he was struggling against the wolves. When one Lightning Wolf pounced toward him, he stepped aside and swung his blade with just enough force to kill it.
The wolf’s body fell to the ground.
Mo Yuan immediately turned toward another wolf, pretending to be nervous as he moved closer to it.
He had no intention of revealing his true strength.
If he displayed his actual power, it would attract too much attention. For now, he was just another Late Stage Origin Vessel Realm cultivator in their eyes.
The battle quickly became chaotic.
Although Mo Shan and Ha Fei had already killed several wolves, there were still too many of them. The Lightning Wolves attacked together, using their speed and lightning to constantly pressure the four cultivators.
"Yin Yue, watch your left!"
Mo Shan shouted.
Yin Yue immediately turned around and blocked a wolf’s claws with her weapon. At the same time, Ha Fei rushed over and smashed the wolf away.
"Thanks!"
"Don’t relax!"
Ha Fei shouted.
Another group of wolves immediately rushed toward them.
The situation was becoming worse. They were gradually being pushed back.
Mo Chen, who had been fighting near the rear, suddenly felt a powerful force coming from his side.
Three Lightning Wolves had surrounded him.
"Not good!"
His expression changed.
He swung his weapon toward one of them, but another wolf had already jumped toward him from behind.
He hurriedly turned around.
Too late.
The three Lightning Wolves attacked almost at the same time.
Mo Chen’s pupils shrank.
Looking at the sharp claws rushing toward him, his mind went blank.
’I’m dead...’
At that moment, he couldn’t think of any way to escape.
