Chapter 72 - 71: The Conflict Between the Wolf Heaven Mercenary Corps and the Mysterious Man in the Beast Vehicle
However, the Tang Family was located in Fengyue City and was under the protection of the West Mansion. If anyone were to attack them within the city without cause, even a group like the Wolf Heaven Mercenary Corps with its two Golden Robe Battle Kings would be met with utter destruction. The rules of the West Mansion were not to be challenged by anyone.
Therefore, in the end, the two Golden Robe leaders didn’t dare to make a move openly. Instead, they planned to find Tang Yi, deal with him, and then use their influence from the shadows to dismantle the Tang Family.
The Tang Family was just a minor clan. With the strength of the Wolf Heaven Mercenary Corps, dealing with them outside the purview of the West Mansion would be a simple matter, wouldn’t it?
However, they received bad news: Tang Yi had gone out to train and wouldn’t be back for another half a month!
Having brought their elite forces only to find their target gone, the two Golden Robe leaders were extremely frustrated. After waiting in Fengyue City for nearly ten days, the two big shots decided to split up. One group would leave the city to intercept Tang Yi on a major road, while the other would lie in wait near the Tang Family’s residence. Whichever group encountered Tang Yi first would capture him immediately and escort him back to the Wolf Heaven Mercenary Corps.
As a Martial Artist under Feng Hua’s command, Li Kuang naturally went with Feng Hua’s group. This was why they had appeared on the Yangsha Ancient Dao.
...
Dust billowed in the distance as a Beast Vehicle sped toward them.
Pulling the vehicle were three Unicorn Thousand Extremes Horses. This type of Demon Beast could cover a thousand li in a day, possessed astonishing endurance, and its speed was even a cut above that of a Battle Spirit Powerhouse.
Anyone who could afford a carriage pulled by three Unicorn Thousand Extremes Horses was, without a doubt, either rich or noble, a person of extraordinary status.
However...
But the ones blocking the road were the elites of the Wolf Heaven Mercenary Corps, every one of them possessing the strength of a Battle Spirit. With such power, it didn’t matter who they faced. Even a dragon would have to coil up before them. An extraordinary status meant nothing; they still had to submit to an inspection!
"Halt!"
A masked Silver Robed Martial Artist extended a hand, ordering the Beast Vehicle to stop.
The driver of the Beast Vehicle was an old man. Annoyed at having his path blocked, he still pulled on the reins and brought the vehicle to a stop.
After stopping the Beast Vehicle, the old man glanced briefly at the carriage behind him.
"Uncle Shi, what’s going on?"
Just then, a deep, middle-aged man’s voice came from the carriage. The owner of the voice seemed accustomed to a position of high authority, and his words carried a natural air of command.
"It’s nothing. Just a group of petty thugs blocking the road. I’ll handle it right away," the man called Uncle Shi replied respectfully to the person in the carriage.
"Hurry up. The qualification exam in Fengyue City is about to begin. I can’t waste my time here; there are still many things to do." The impatient voice of the middle-aged man came from the carriage again, and then there was silence.
"Yes, sir!" Uncle Shi acknowledged. He then turned and glared furiously at the group of black-robed men before him. In a cold voice, he said, "Who are you? How dare you block the road in broad daylight? Do you have any idea who is seated in this carriage? I think you’ve grown tired of living!"
"I don’t care who you are. We’ve sealed this road! If you want to pass, you and the person in your carriage need to get out immediately for an inspection. You can leave after we’ve checked you!" one of the black-robed men shouted, showing no fear.
"Insolent!" Uncle Shi was enraged when he heard the black-robed man demand an inspection. ’I can tell this man is just a grunt,’ he thought. ’How dare someone like him challenge me? How dare he be so arrogant? He’s truly courting death.’
’If I don’t teach him a lesson, he won’t know his place!’
With that thought, Uncle Shi leaped from the Beast Vehicle, launching a palm strike through the air at the black-robed man who had just spoken.
Although Uncle Shi was merely a servant, a driver, he possessed the strength of a Battle Spirit.
The power of his single palm was terrifying to behold.
"Heh." The black-robed man who had spoken earlier sneered. Seeing Uncle Shi’s terrifying palm strike descending upon him, he wasn’t the least bit nervous, nor did he show any fear or intention to dodge. Instead, he calmly met the attack with a palm strike of his own.
Any one of the black-robed men here had the strength of a Battle Spirit, on par with Uncle Shi. Why would they possibly fear him?
BAM!
The two palms collided. Both the black-robed man and Uncle Shi were forced back three steps. Neither could gain an advantage over the other.
"Impossible! You’re also at the Battle Spirit level!"
Seeing his palm strike blocked by a black-robed man who looked like a mere grunt, Uncle Shi’s face fell in astonishment. He then began to carefully observe the group of men.
After careful observation, Uncle Shi finally realized that aside from one man with a scar on his face, whose strength he could discern as that of a Battle Grandmaster, he couldn’t see through the cultivation of anyone else!
’What did this mean?’
’It meant that this entire group was composed of Battle Spirits, or perhaps even stronger!’
’Realizing this, Uncle Shi was even more shocked. In a small place like Fengyue City, a single Battle Spirit was already a top-tier expert capable of ruling over a significant faction. Yet here, there were so many powerhouses at or above the Battle Spirit level. What in the world was happening here?’
’And what power did this group in front of him belong to?’
"Who are you?"
Uncle Shi stared at the black-robed men, his expression grave.
"It doesn’t matter who we are," one of the black-robed men said. His tone was arrogant, but his words weren’t entirely unreasonable. "We don’t want to blow this out of proportion. Just cooperate and let us conduct an inspection. Once we confirm you’re not who we’re looking for, we’ll let you go immediately."
After all, the Western Domain belonged to the West Mansion, not their Wolf Heaven Mercenary Corps. So, even though they had gathered so many experts and were acting forcefully, they wouldn’t let the situation escalate.
If the powerhouses of the West Mansion found out about this, they would face consequences they couldn’t possibly handle.
"Looking for someone?"
Hearing this, Uncle Shi pondered for a moment.
’This group is not to be trifled with,’ Uncle Shi thought. ’Even though I don’t know what’s going on, this is beyond my ability to handle. I’m powerless against them. Every one of these black-robed men is at or above the Battle Spirit level. How could I possibly manage this? My master will have to deal with it.’
Thinking this, Uncle Shi said to the black-robed men, "Wait a moment. I must first report to my master."
With that, he turned, reboarded the Beast Vehicle, and began reporting in a low voice toward the carriage.
One of the black-robed men grew impatient. "Be sensible," he said. "We don’t want to make a big deal out of this. Have your master come out at once so we can compare him to a portrait. As long as he’s not the person we’re looking for, we’ll let you leave immediately!"
"Hmph!"
The person inside the carriage, having heard Uncle Shi’s report and now the arrogant words from the man outside, let out a cold snort.
Then, the person in the carriage was heard saying, "The Western Domain belongs to the West Mansion, not to skulking crooks like you. Within the Western Domain, no matter who you are or what influence you represent, you are not qualified to stop me, nor are you qualified to demand that I show myself to you!"
