I Can Fish Up Everything!

Chapter 109 - 101: Fishing Requires Grinding Too (Part 2)

Yi Chen briefly explained the fish's origin but didn't mention the price, as that wasn't suitable for the video.

"Wow, after that introduction, I really want to try some."

"By the way, it looks like the boss isn't here today! In that case... Hehehehe!"

That triumphant, mischievous little look, like a cat that just got the cream, made everyone's eyes light up. They found it especially cute and funny.

The video shoot paused there. The next part was to show off her cooking skills, so they would resume filming when it was time to cook.

"What do you think?" Yi Chen asked a little nervously after sending the recorded clip to the group chat and waiting for everyone to watch it.

"I think it's great," Gu Nan was the first to affirm.

An Jun nodded as well. "It's great. Especially the laugh and expression at the end. It's like a tsundere little devil from an anime—very distinctive."

Jin Enfei agreed, nodding. "I think this clip is excellent. From now on, you should do that little laugh before 'stealing the fish'."

"But your makeup and hairstyle aren't quite right. I'll have to teach you properly. This clip is still usable, though, since you had a bit of a beauty filter on."

"I don't have any makeup at home," Yi Chen said, sounding a bit helpless. "I was just about to ask you to teach me and recommend some suitable products."

She had gone home in makeup the day before, which had stunned her grandmother.

But after being told she looked pretty, she decided she wanted to give it a try. The problem was, she rarely wore makeup.

She only had some basic skincare products at home. You can't make bricks without straw!

"Alright, I'll teach you later," Jin Enfei nodded, readily agreeing.

Yi Chen's shoot went fine, so then it was Gu Nan's turn. They had him try acting a bit to get a feel for it.

But he was very stiff in front of the camera. He tried several times, but it just wasn't working.

Jin Enfei seemed to have noticed something. "How about this," she suggested, "we'll just film from your eyes down, so only your nose and mouth are showing. What do you think?"

Hearing this, Gu Nan felt a sudden sense of relief for some reason. His expression relaxed, and the subsequent test shots went without a hitch.

"Let me see how it turned out." After they finished, he noticed Jin Enfei hadn't sent it to the group chat, so he curiously leaned over to take a look.

"I already deleted it. We have to film again later when Yi Chen finishes cooking the fish anyway," Jin Enfei said, refusing to show him and making up a casual excuse.

Gu Nan didn't get to see it, but he didn't mind too much. It would be the same to just watch the final result after the whole scene was filmed.

With all the commotion, the time had already reached ten-thirty. Customers were still trickling in, but he could manage to serve them.

Yi Chen then started filming the part where she cleaned the fish and cooked it. Jin Enfei adjusted the distance to get a full-body shot.

Whether it was cleaning the fish or cooking, her proficient movements showed she'd done it many times. In this day and age, that was a major selling point.

The fillets were used for a yellow braise, while the head and bones were used to make soup.

Yi Chen: "The yellow braise is done. Just a final sprinkle of scallions. The fish soup is about ready too. A little scallion, and a dash of white pepper."

Once both dishes were ready, she leaned in to smell them, a blissful expression on her face.

Then, just as she was picking up her chopsticks to eat, Gu Nan appeared in the shot.

"Yi Chen, what are you doing?"

Jin Enfei then deliberately focused the camera on the large fish head in the soup.

Later, when Yi Chen was filming by herself, she could splice in a close-up shot of this.

The fish head would be one of the highlights of future videos, showing that Gu Nan had noticed something was amiss.

As for future episodes where Yi Chen "gets smarter" and hides the fish head, Gu Nan would cleverly search for it.

These were all extensions of the script, things to consider later on.

At this moment, Yi Chen looked flustered on camera. She'd been caught red-handed—how could she not be nervous?

But she just looked pitiful, as if she were the one being bullied.

Jin Enfei's eyes lit up. Although this wasn't how she was supposed to act, it was very captivating.

On camera, Gu Nan noticed the fish head in the soup and exclaimed in shock, "Isn't this a Star Chicken Fish from the shop? Could it be..."

Yi Chen, seemingly aware she couldn't hide it anymore, quickly put on a fawning smile. "Boss, I saw you were so busy you didn't even have time for lunch, so I specially made you some braised fish and fish soup."

"Here, have a taste. See if you like it."

As she spoke, she picked up a piece of fish with her chopsticks and personally fed it to Gu Nan.

In the video, he acted as if he'd been completely won over by the food and commented on the flavor of the fish.

Meanwhile, Yi Chen sat beside him, continuously feeding him and waiting on him.

The feeding part had to be filmed too. It would be sped up during post-production editing.

Finally, they shot a concluding scene where Gu Nan had finished all the food and soup, with Yi Chen looking aggrieved beside him.

"Okay, nice! You two work together really well," Jin Enfei said with a bit of exaggeration after saving the video.

But Gu Nan let out a "BURP." The fish meat was just okay; Yi Chen had cooked a pound-and-a-half Star Chicken Fish, and he was mostly full from the soup. He could still eat a bit more at noon, though.

He saw Yi Chen and Jin Enfei were eager to start editing the video, so he just ordered takeout for lunch.

After lunch, Yi Chen discussed which makeup products to buy first with Jin Enfei.

As a Korean, Jin Enfei recommended some products from her home country, which weren't expensive but worked well.

Her wardrobe was a simpler matter. Since she needed to dress for work, there was no need for anything fancy.

An Jun was getting a bit bored, so he took a few of the red sea bream he had caught and left. He wanted to film a video, and he'd take the rest home for his family to try.

Gu Nan decided to take care of his own business as well. He bought a cooling mat and a blanket, planning to pull an all-nighter.

He was about to reach level eight, and this time he was determined to grind to Level 10 no matter what. So, Gu Nan decided to live on the sea for a short while.

As for food, Gu Nan bought some instant noodles and rice. He could make a seafood stew, and if he threw in the instant noodles, he'd have a pot of seafood ramen.

If he was feeling diligent, he could stir-fry a couple of dishes. As a southerner, he still preferred eating rice.

But the charcoal stove wouldn't cut it; its flame was too weak. So he bought a small gas stove and a small propane tank to go with it.

Portable butane stoves were inconvenient, and a small propane tank was more economical. Most fishermen on small boats used one of these two options when they went out to sea.

After sending a message to Yi Chen telling her he wouldn't be back for dinner, Gu Nan went to the dock. He moved all his newly purchased items onto the boat, parked his tricycle, and set sail.

His fuel level was still good; he estimated he had about seven hours of travel time.

So Gu Nan tried again to find a fishing spot more suitable for fishing alone, one where he wouldn't need to turn off his map during broad daylight.

This time, he planned to check out the north. The fishing boat sailed on and soon reached the bridge.

It was Monday, so there weren't many anglers on the bridge piers; it was pretty empty.

But now that he had a boat and planned to grind for levels by catching fish along the Fengqi Coast, he wouldn't fish here.

He passed under the bridge and continued heading in a northeasterly direction. After about half an hour, he suddenly saw signs of fish on his fish finder.

Moreover, the water depth, which had been over fifty meters, was rapidly shallowing.

He immediately slowed down. Sure enough, as he got closer, the depth decreased from over fifty meters to the thirties, and finally to twenty-three meters.

Twenty-three meters was likely the shallowest point on the seabed. If he continued forward, the water would slowly start to deepen again.

Along the way, the fish finder had shown quite a few fish.

Judging from the topography, Gu Nan figured the seabed must be a large reef or rock formation, or perhaps covered in seaweed and algae. Otherwise, it wouldn't have formed a small fishing ground.

This spot was probably seven or eight nautical miles from shore. He could see Lingdou Island, which looked very small in the distance.

There were no other fishing boats nearby. 'Could this be a secret fishing spot that very few people know about?'

Regardless, he had found his fishing spot for the day. He decided to grind to his heart's content here.

He put on a baseball cap, slipped on his sun-protective clothing, opened the foam box to take out the frozen Antarctic shrimp, and then went outside to chum the water.

He wasn't in a hurry to use his "Guaranteed Daily Catch" ability this afternoon. He would start with some normal fishing first.

He came out with his fishing rod and first cast his line to fish for red fork-tailed catfish.

He had already caught thirteen of these fish. He needed another thirty-seven to complete one quest, and the quest for one hundred would also see its count increase.
