I Can Fish Up Everything!

Chapter 108 - 101: Even Fishing is a Grind

The shop was bustling today. After a busy morning, An Jun and Jin Enfei arrived, and even Xu Zhina showed up to join the fun.

She had her own agenda, though. She wanted to learn how to film, capture the daily goings-on at the pet store, and see if she could use the internet to find responsible owners for the kittens and puppies they’d taken in.

That way, Gu Nan could continue doing what he loved and wouldn’t be forced to stop taking in newborn puppies and kittens.

And if some people weren’t interested in mutts or tabby cats, they might still end up buying another pet from the store.

"I stayed up all night finishing the script. What do you guys think?" Jin Enfei created a group chat, added everyone, and sent a file.

Her intense focus on Yi Chen’s success wasn’t born from some deep, sisterly bond.

They had only just met. What sisterly bond could there be?

Jin Enfei had her own objective. Her main goal was to get on good terms with Gu Nan.

Her plan wasn’t to win Gu Nan over for herself; it was for An Jun’s sake.

She already had a basic understanding of her new boyfriend’s family background. When they first met, she’d sensed he wasn’t short on cash, which was the main reason she’d been willing to talk to him in the first place.

Now that she knew more, she was entertaining the idea of locking him down—or even marrying him.

Jin Enfei had come to China as an exchange student. Her family was doing okay, but they were by no means well-off. Her goal was to find a rich man so she wouldn’t have to spend her life worrying about bills and groceries.

She wasn’t worried about the stereotype that women from the peninsula all get plastic surgery and might be looked down upon for it.

Back home, she was considered an all-natural beauty. Aside from double-eyelid surgery, she had only gotten her lips plumped. She hadn’t even touched her nose.

Her nose was, in fact, the feature she was most pleased with. It was just like Han Jiaren’s—it even had a mole in the exact same spot.

The shape itself was beautiful, of course—a delicate, upturned nose that was a perfect fit for her oval face.

Double-eyelid surgery didn’t really count as "plastic surgery" back home, and frankly, it barely counted in China anymore either.

So many women got it done now. She figured any potential Chinese mother-in-law would be much more accepting once she learned Jin Enfei hadn’t had any real work done.

But the most important person was An Jun. Jin Enfei’s mood brightened just thinking about his surprised expression last night when he learned the only thing she’d had done was her eyelids.

She could clearly feel a subtle shift in his attitude toward her.

Of course, whether she could actually lock down a playboy like An Jun would come down to her own abilities.

Jin Enfei was very confident. She had an ace up her sleeve.

But playing it would come at a great personal cost, so she was saving it as a last resort—one she hoped she’d never have to use.

Before it came to that, however, she needed to get in touch with An Jun’s family and see how they felt about her.

Gu Nan quickly read through Jin Enfei’s script, but his brow furrowed when he reached the end. "I have to be in it?"

Jin Enfei nodded. "Your reaction at the end is crucial. It’s like... you know, adding the eyes to the dragon?"

"You mean ’the finishing touch that brings the dragon to life’!" Xu Zhina supplied the idiom.

"Yes, yes, yes! That’s it, the finishing touch," Jin Enfei nodded eagerly. "The script is about Yi Chen cooking one of the store’s fish into a gourmet meal. As the owner, you have to make an appearance. At the end, we need you to describe the flavor for the viewers."

Gu Nan was conflicted; he had a phobia of being on camera.

But then he saw Yi Chen looking at him with such hopeful eyes. How could anyone say no to those big, sparkling eyes!

"Uh, how about I wear a half-mask? You know, the kind that covers the upper part of my face," Gu Nan suggested, trying to bargain.

Standing nearby, An Jun burst out laughing. "Hey, hey, hey! You’re just tasting some fish and saying if it’s good, not filming an amateur porn flick. What do you need a mask for?!"

Everyone: "..."

Yi Chen: "???"

"Go to hell!" Gu Nan lunged at him with a kick.

Jin Enfei sighed. Her earlier idea suddenly felt a bit rash. Maybe she should go find a new sugar daddy?

In the end, Gu Nan gritted his teeth and agreed.

He’d overcome real hardships before; surely he could get over a mental block like this.

Besides, it wasn’t that severe. His body would just go stiff and he’d feel a sense of revulsion, but not actual fear.

Of course, something like performing on stage with a K-pop group or acting in a film was completely out of the question. Gu Nan just wasn’t destined to be even a background extra in this lifetime.

"Alright, since Gu Nan agreed, let’s give it a test run," Jin Enfei said, then began to coach Yi Chen on how to film.

It required a little bit of acting, but nothing too difficult.

However, considering they were just starting and would probably be using a self-filming style, Jin Enfei had Yi Chen film herself using a gimbal.

Hiring a professional videographer and editor would have to wait until they knew if the account had the potential to blow up. Many big influencers started out by filming everything themselves.

But at first, Yi Chen was a little stiff. Her voice and tone were flat, just like in her previous videos, and her expression was wooden.

Jin Enfei didn’t hesitate to yell, "Cut!"

"Yi Chen, you need to sound cuter. You have to put a little sweetness in your voice, just a little. You can’t have none at all. And your expression, be more natural."

Yi Chen’s natural voice was quite crisp and clear. If she just added that tiny bit of affectation, it would transform into that perfect "sweet girl" style.

She cleared her throat and gave it a try. "Like this?"

The two men in the shop immediately raised their eyebrows. It was a very appealing voice. Jin Enfei nodded in satisfaction. "Yes, exactly like that."

Now that she understood, Yi Chen started filming again.

"Hello, everyone! I’m Chenchen. Today, I’m going to introduce a type of fish that’s perfect for braising or making soup." As she spoke, she walked up to the Star Chicken Fish. "See? This is the Star Chicken Fish—you can tell it’s delicious just by looking at it. I, however, prefer to call it a Spotted Grunt."
