Chapter 435 - 430: Threaten Me? Are You Worthy?
"Fellow Daoist, let me handle this!" Ge Sheng was still making a last-ditch effort.
Du Youqian patted his arm and smiled. "It’s not your turn yet. Calm down, Fellow Daoist Ge. Just stay here and drink. I won’t be long."
As he spoke, he set Sha Jiang down. With a wave of his hand, Cai... Cai Min flew involuntarily to his side, and Du Youqian leaped out the window, taking the man with him.
The Shopkeeper forced his tired eyes open and shook his head.
’Why does this guy always use the window instead of the perfectly good door?’
’What a strange quirk.’
~~~~~~~~
After leaping out the window, Du Youqian flew directly to the tavern’s roof.
The owner of this tavern was from the Binyin Sect, so Du Youqian couldn’t care less if it collapsed from the battle’s shockwaves.
He had spent the last few days making improvements to the Grand Array he now fully controlled. So, despite the Binyin Sect’s Flying Boat approaching menacingly, he was completely unafraid.
’As long as no Nascent Soul Master shows up, I’ll kill as many as they send.’ —Alright, that was pure bluffing, but ’who’s going to call me on it?’
But as for the dozen or so Core Formation Cultivators from the Binyin Sect, if he had enough time and they didn’t run, he truly could slaughter them all.
The Flying Boat hovered in midair as the Binyin Sect Cultivators leaped out one after another. Du Youqian counted them: twelve in total.
One of them was Master Shi Shitao, whom he had met before.
There was also a Golden Core Peak cultivator who, according to the intelligence Du Youqian had gathered, was probably named Zhou Haozhe.
Although this man was at the Golden Core Peak, his chances of advancing to the Nascent Soul realm were extremely slim. Thus, he wasn’t being nurtured as a candidate for the next realm but was instead used as an "enforcer."
He was always being dragged out to do the dirty work, yet he was never first in line when it came to the distribution of resources.
No wonder Du Youqian could feel the resentment radiating off the man, even from a great distance.
He seemed even more aggrieved than a young bride being bullied by her mother-in-law.
"Where are my people?" Du Youqian patted Cai Min, forcing him to lift his head so the Binyin Sect cultivators could get a clear look.
Zhou Haozhe nodded. "We brought them."
Soon, a Core Formation Early Stage Cultivator returned to one of the Flying Boats and emerged carrying two people, one in each hand. Their hair was a mess, and their bodies were covered in blood.
Du Youqian extended his Divine Sense to check. It was indeed Fei Province and Lu Guiying.
As expected, they were in terrible shape, barely breathing.
For Core Formation Masters, who possessed immense Life Force, to be tortured to the brink of death—one could only imagine the suffering they had endured.
However, their Cultivation had not been crippled, nor had they suffered any irreversible injuries. That was a small blessing amidst the misfortune.
Du Youqian said languidly, "Toss them over. What are you waiting for? Surely you’re not afraid that I could break through your encirclement of twelve people while carrying two injured comrades?"
Zhou Haozhe opened his mouth to speak but abruptly clamped it shut.
Du Youqian sensed Master Shi Shitao communicating with Zhou Haozhe via Divine Sense, but he was unable to eavesdrop on the content of their conversation.
After a pause, Zhou Haozhe slowly shook his head. "In our eyes, you’re an irrational madman. There’s no telling what you’ll do. Therefore, I cannot accept your proposal. You release our man first, or the exchange is off."
Du Youqian sighed, pressing his hand onto Cai Min’s head as Sword Intent began to gather at his fingertips. "I get it now. You don’t want him going back alive to compete with you for the resources needed to reach the Nascent Soul realm, do you? Fine. I’ll help you kill him, and then you can give my people back to me. How does that sound?"
"Are you insane?" Zhou Haozhe blurted out.
"Three," Du Youqian said, shaking his head.
"We will not yield," Master Shi Shitao said coldly.
"Mmmph! Mmmph!" Unable to speak, Cai Min struggled desperately, trying to make a sound.
He could feel Du Youqian’s killing intent. ’This isn’t a joke! He’s not bluffing!’
"Two." Du Youqian couldn’t be bothered to waste any more words on them.
’Trying to threaten me?’
’You’re not even worthy.’
Just as he was about to say "one" and use his Sword Intent to scramble Cai Min’s brains—a little dish of sword-stirred brain matter—Zhou Haozhe clapped his hands. The Core Formation Early Stage Cultivator tossed Fei Province and Lu Guiying toward Du Youqian.
Du Youqian didn’t reach out. Yet, as the two flew before him, it was as if they were caught by an invisible hand, landing slowly and steadily on the roof.
They had not yet regained consciousness and were, for now, merely a burden to Du Youqian.
Du Youqian kept his end of the bargain. With a flick of his finger, he tossed Cai Min—who had already been looted of all possessions, down to his very Dharma Robe—toward the opposing group.
Someone immediately stepped forward to catch Cai Min and perform a hasty examination.
Du Youqian looked at Zhou Haozhe and said with great interest, "So, when do we start fighting?"
He manipulated the Grand Array to secretly shield the unconscious Fei Province and Lu Guiying.
Zhou Haozhe sighed. "Fellow Daoist, surrender without a fight, and I guarantee I will spare your life. When we return to the Sect, I will even plead for mercy to the Supreme Elders on your behalf. I will also ensure your two subordinates’ lives are spared."
Du Youqian was somewhat disappointed.
’Are the Cultivators of the Binyin Sect really this pathetic?’
’Every one of them is so arrogant, so full of themselves. Can’t they even read the situation?’
’A Sect like this truly has no reason to exist.’
"Make your move," Du Youqian said, his interest waning.
"Oh, right, a word of warning," he added. "You only get one chance to strike. If you can’t take me down in a single move, all of you will die."
Master Shi Shitao’s expression shifted. It wasn’t that he completely believed Du Youqian, but the words had affected him enough that he didn’t dare make a rash judgment.
Zhou Haozhe, however, just sneered, looking at Du Youqian with the sort of pity one reserves for a lunatic. "Truly a madman. No wonder you dared to offend the Binyin Sect. Since your Cultivation didn’t come easy, we’ll grant you a quick death! Attack!"
As he spoke, his Flying Sword shot forth, looking magnificent and powerful.
He hadn’t completely lost his senses. He knew that Du Youqian, who had killed Wang Ke and captured Cai Min in a single encounter, was clearly his superior in Magical Combat. He wasn’t so arrogant as to attack alone, instead signaling his sect-mates to strike together.
The other eleven Binyin Sect Core Formation Cultivators, all except Master Shi Shitao, attacked with their full power.
Treasures, Flying Swords, and Divine Abilities filled the air, an astonishing display of power.
Master Shi Shitao, however, held back. He feigned an attack, releasing an offensive Treasure but not actually directing it toward Du Youqian.
If all went well and Du Youqian was captured without issue, no one would blame him for his inaction.
If the fight turned bitter and the Binyin Sect took losses, and if Zhou Haozhe tried to hold him accountable, Master Shi Shitao had a ready excuse: ’I was just being cautious, creating a layered offense. I was the second wave. It’s a tactic, so you can shut your mouth...’
But in the next moment, the Binyin Sect cultivators were horrified to discover that all of their attacks were being reflected right back at them.
Their ultimate techniques, their killing blows—all of them were aimed at themselves!
They had no time to even consider what had just happened, or how such a bizarre event could be possible.
The only thing they could do was frantically change their techniques to defend against their own attacks.
This was the moment that revealed who had truly used their full power and who hadn’t.
Some struggled frantically to block their own attacks, proving they had indeed gone all out.
Others handled the defense with ease, revealing they had been holding back.
What truly surprised Du Youqian was Zhou Haozhe. The man was incredibly cunning!
He nonchalantly caught his own Flying Sword with ease, revealing that his earlier strike had been a mere feint with no real power behind it.
At that moment, Du Youqian adjusted his control over the Array, no longer indiscriminately reflecting every attack.
Then, his Jinhuan sword shot out, slashing toward a Binyin Sect cultivator who was reeling from the reflection of his own full-power attack.
Du Youqian himself shot toward another flustered Binyin Sect cultivator. The man hadn’t expected him to engage in Magical Combat at close quarters like a Body Refining Cultivator. Just like Wang Ke the day before, he instinctively grabbed the nearest Treasure and swung it violently at Du Youqian.
Zhou Haozhe’s heart sank, but it was too late for him to intervene.
Since Master Shi Shitao hadn’t attacked previously, he was free to act now. His Treasure was a cone-shaped weapon, but not just any cone. Its design drew inspiration from the Thunder Bomb and Electric Mirror of the Thunder God and Thunder Goddess, allowing it to unleash bolts of lightning.
The Thunderbolt Cone shot forward, about to strike Du Youqian and force him to abandon his offensive and switch to defense.
But when it was about ten feet from Du Youqian, the Thunderbolt Cone abruptly slowed, its speed dropping until it was slower than a snail.
The transition from extreme speed to a dead crawl was so jarring it was enough to make an observer want to cough up blood.
And someone was, in fact, already coughing up blood.
The cultivator Du Youqian had closed in on was the one spitting blood.
Du Youqian didn’t even bother wasting Sword Intent on him, instead landing several heavy punches, each one threatening to shatter the man’s Golden Core.
This was a technique Du Youqian had learned in his past life as a Body Refining Cultivator. Though he no longer followed that path, he now possessed the Divine Ability of Copper Skin Iron Bones.
Copper Skin Iron Bones wasn’t just for defense; when used offensively, it could deliver a uniquely excruciating kind of pain to his opponents.
The Binyin Sect cultivator targeted by the Jinhuan sword suffered an even worse fate. He didn’t even have time to cough up blood before the Sword Intent severed his heart meridian, and his body plummeted from the sky.
Jinhuan returned to Du Youqian’s side, blocking a belated strike from Zhou Haozhe.
Having failed to land a blow, the Thunderbolt Cone was also recalled by Master Shi Shitao.
Du Youqian leaped back onto the tavern roof. Looking at Zhou Haozhe’s ashen face, he laughed. "Only two dead? Don’t tell me you’ve already lost the will to fight. Come, come! Let me witness the famous courage of the Binyin Sect, the ones who supposedly fight to the death and never retreat!"
