Chapter 502 - 247: Searching for Zhao Rui (2)
"..."
Mo Ling’Er rolled her eyes, nonchalantly paid the bill for the two of them, and then stepped out of the hot pot restaurant.
’Dongqi?’
Although Mo Ling’Er had studied the history and geography of the Central State back in the Great Shang, now that she was actually here, finding a place out of the blue was proving to be quite difficult.
"Dongqi? Little lady, are you trying to get to Dongqi? I can take you!"
"Really? Thank you so much!"
Mo Ling’Er had just randomly stopped a passerby to ask for directions to Dongqi.
To her surprise, the man kindly offered to take her there himself.
"No need to thank me. But since I’m being so nice to you, shouldn’t you... reward me a little?"
The man leered at Mo Ling’Er’s graceful figure, raising an eyebrow suggestively.
"A beating? Is that your request?"
"Yeah, of course you have to reward me. It’s a long way."
Mo Ling’Er glanced around, then decisively slapped him across the face. At the same time, her fists and feet rained down on him like a torrential storm.
"Sis—no, my lady! I won’t do it again! Ahh, help me!"
A few minutes later, the man, bruised and swollen, was hauled into the sky by Mo Ling’Er.
"Navigate to Dongqi University. If you try any tricks, I’ll drop you."
Mo Ling’Er didn’t have any Central State identification, so of course, she couldn’t get a phone card.
She could only resort to this simple and brutal method.
"Hey... hey, my lady... you’re... *huff*... the wind... the wind is too strong!"
An hour later, over Dongqi Province, Mo Ling’Er came to a halt.
"Useless!"
Looking at the man who had already passed out in her hand, Mo Ling’Er spat, then casually tossed him aside, sending him plummeting toward the ground.
"AHHH!"
The man woke up mid-fall. Seeing the ground rapidly approaching, he was scared out of his wits and utterly terrified.
’Oh no, this is Zhao Rui’s territory. Will he get mad at me?’
With a moment’s hesitation, Mo Ling’Er zipped after him and snatched him back.
"My lady, spare me!"
The man’s legs trembled, and he had already wet his pants.
"So useless!"
Mo Ling’Er rolled her eyes and descended abruptly. Then, after snatching the man’s phone, she kicked him to the ground and strode away without a backward glance.
"Patrol! Patrol! I was kidnapped by a Dharma Realm Martial Arts master! Yes, she’s a woman, she brought me all the way from Sichuan Province..."
"Hey, you have to do something about this!"
"A Dharma Master?"
The patrolling officers looked the man up and down with contempt.
’A Dharma Master would rob you? You’ve got to be drunk.’
What did it even mean to be a Dharma Master? How many of them were there in the entire Central State?
Every single one of them was a top combatant for a Sect or organization. Every single one received special treatment from the Court.
’And one of them robbed *you*?’
"Ordinary laws don’t apply to Dharma Masters. You should go to a Sect or the Martial Arts Association."
"How can you be like this?"
"You can’t just ignore me! At least buy me a ticket home!"
The man slumped to the ground, bitterly regretting his big mouth.
And now look at the mess he was in.
Dongqi University!
Mo Ling’Er used the phone’s navigation to find her way over, only to be stunned by the sight. The entrance was packed shoulder-to-shoulder, completely impassable.
"Hey, handsome, what’s everyone here for?"
Mo Ling’Er patted the shoulder of a man in front of her who was watching the spectacle and asked with a smile.
"What for? They’re here to bask in the glory of Emperor Zhao, of course."
"Zhao Rui is inside?"
Mo Ling’Er’s face lit up. ’This was easier than I thought.’
"Shh! How can you just say Emperor Zhao’s name like that? If his die-hard fans hear you, they’ll tear you a new one."
"Let them try!"
Mo Ling’Er sneered and turned to push her way into the crowd.
"Hey, you’ll never get through. Emperor Zhao isn’t in there."
"He’s not inside?"
Mo Ling’Er stopped short. She turned, frowning in confusion, and asked, "If he’s not inside, then what are all these people looking at?"
"They’re here to see the place where he used to live and study, of course. It’s worth the trip if you can pick up some gossip. Plus, a lot of internet celebrities are here chasing clout. Haven’t you seen them? They’re dancing, singing... It’s a whole scene."
"..."
Mo Ling’Er didn’t quite understand these antics. Annoyed, she asked, "So, do you know where Zhao Rui is?"
"How would I know? But his teachers and classmates probably do."
"Good point! Thanks!"
Mo Ling’Er gave a faint smile, then suddenly flickered and vanished from the spot.
"Where’d she go?"
The man rubbed his eyes, a look of pure astonishment on his face.
Dongqi University’s Martial Arts Academy!
Mo Ling’Er reappeared at the entrance. The academy, in order to deal with the swarms of Zhao Rui’s supporters outside, had been forced to organize a security team to guard all the passages.
This was to prevent people from ignoring the rules and entering the campus without permission.
Of course, this security team was only capable of stopping ordinary Martial Artists. Someone like Mo Ling’Er was impossible to stop.
"Who are you? How did you get in?"
The two students at the gate were shocked to see Mo Ling’Er suddenly appear, and they immediately adopted a defensive stance as if facing a great enemy.
"Me? I’m a friend of Zhao Rui. I’m here to see him."
Mo Ling’Er told the truth.
Now that she was here, she didn’t want to cause any trouble.
’If I annoy Zhao Rui, he’ll definitely just ignore me again.’
"Zha-Zhao Rui?"
The two students weren’t idiots. Based on her ghostly Body Technique, she had to be a Martial Artist at the Grandmaster Realm or higher, perhaps even more powerful.
’Since she says she’s Zhao Rui’s friend and hasn’t made a move, we should just report it up the chain.’
"Please wait a moment. I’ll go inform a teacher."
One of the students said to Mo Ling’Er before pulling out his phone to make a call.
Mo Ling’Er wasn’t in a hurry. She waited leisurely at the entrance, admiring the lovely plum and bamboo trees in front of the Martial Arts Academy.
A few minutes later, two Grandmaster Realm teachers from the Martial Arts Academy rushed over.
The two of them looked at Mo Ling’Er, their brows furrowed.
’We can’t see through her cultivation.’
"May I ask who you are? Zhao Rui is not at the academy. If it’s convenient, you can leave your contact information, and we’ll let him know when he returns," one of the teachers said in a low voice.
"Do you have his phone number? I want to talk to him."
"Well... we don’t have it."
It wasn’t their place to make such decisions, so they could only shake their heads.
"You really don’t?"
"We really don’t!"
"Fine then!"
Seeing that finding him through official channels might be difficult, Mo Ling’Er wasted no more words, flickered, and vanished from sight again.
This time, she didn’t reappear but used her Body Technique to sneak deep into the Martial Arts Academy.
With a little "guidance" from a few students, she quickly found the location of Mingcan Courtyard.
"So, this is where you practiced the Martial Dao?"
Mo Ling’Er’s delicate brows rose slightly, a smile on her face as she stepped inside.
She had only taken a few steps when a beam of Finger Force shot toward her.
"Huh? I was discovered!"
Mo Ling’Er was slightly taken aback. She hadn’t expected Mingcan Courtyard to have a master guarding it.
In the moment she hesitated, a woman appeared.
"Skulking around like that, who are you?"
"And who are you?"
Mo Ling’Er sized the other woman up. Based on the Finger Force from just now, she was likely an Initial Tier Dharma Master.
’Her strength is nothing to be afraid of.’
"I am the guardian of this Mingcan Courtyard, and I serve under Emperor Zhao. You had best state your business truthfully, or else..." the woman said coldly.
"Or else what? You serve under Zhao Rui? That’s great! You should be able to contact him, right? Quick, give him a call and tell him Mo Ling’Er is here."
"Mo Ling’Er?"
The woman frowned in thought. She had never heard Zhao Rui or any of his friends mention someone by that name.
"Oh, just call him and you’ll find out! I’m not a bad person. If I were, why would I be wasting my time talking to you?" Mo Ling’Er said impatiently. ’Why is everyone being so secretive?’
"Step out of Mingcan Courtyard! I will make the inquiry myself," the woman said flatly, her eyes still full of caution.
"Fine, fine."
Mo Ling’Er reluctantly retreated a dozen steps, stopping just outside the entrance to Mingcan Courtyard.
Seemingly having heard the commotion at the front gate, many passing students from the Martial Arts Team stopped to watch.
"I hear she’s looking for Zhao Rui!"
"Wow, she’s gorgeous. As expected, the Emperor is never short on women."
"Shh! What nonsense are you spouting? Aren’t you afraid Captain Qin will come looking for you?"
"Alright, alright, I was just talking nonsense."
