Chapter 1182 - 1181: Yuan Jing and the Saiyan
Duan Yan dropped straight to his knees, face full of sincerity and gratitude, and gave Lu Zheng a deep formal bow.
Lu Zheng couldn’t help but suck in a cold breath; he had never seen someone this shameless in his life.
The women of Five Beauties Manor were a bit stunned as well, then immediately reacted.
"Shameless!"
"Nonsense!"
"Your mind is clearly clear—you’re obviously the one controlling that zombie!"
"Young Master Lu, don’t believe him!"
Hu Cai Niang flicked a finger, sharp claws vaguely appearing as she prepared to rush up and finish him off.
But Lu Zheng stopped Hu Cai Niang.
Hu Cai Niang wasn’t Bai Ting’Er; she didn’t believe for a second that Lu Zheng would buy Duan Yan’s bullshit. She just turned back and looked at Lu Zheng in confusion.
Lu Zheng narrowed his eyes and looked at Duan Yan. "You were controlled by the zombie several months ago?"
"Exactly!"
Duan Yan nodded heavily. "Brother—no, benefactor—are you perhaps an official of the Court, here because of the Duan Family massacre in Dingshan County?"
Without waiting for Lu Zheng to answer, Duan Yan continued, "This zombie wanted revenge and had me gather all the Duan Family members together. I was under his control and completely helpless!
Now that the zombie has been executed, this humble one counts as a victim too. I must thank Benefactor for avenging my family!"
At this point Duan Yan choked up, then couldn’t help bursting into tears. "Father! Grandfather! You died so miserably, but now there’s already a benefactor who has avenged you!"
The most naive of the five women, Bai Ting’Er, was already completely confused. "So you really were controlled by the zombie?"
"Truer than pure gold!"
Duan Yan nodded vigorously and kowtowed to Lu Zheng again. "Now that Benefactor has saved my life, this life of mine belongs to Benefactor! If Benefactor does not despise me, this humble one is willing to enter under your banner, to serve tea and water, in order to repay this great kindness."
Lu Zheng, "..."
"Young Master Lu, just hurry up and kill him. If I keep listening, I’m afraid I’ll throw up." Not far away, Lin Jing’Er really couldn’t hold it in anymore.
"Benefactor, you have to believe me, I really was controlled by the zombie!"
Duan Yan lifted his head to look at Lu Zheng. "This humble one swears never to betray Benefactor. I placed first in the local exams and have no worries about the autumn exams. Benefactor, the officialdom is not easy to navigate; this humble one still has a few ideas and is willing to act as your adviser!"
Lu Zheng suddenly saw the light. So that’s why Duan Yan dared to openly treat him like a fool—turns out he was planning to put on a double act with him.
Unfortunately, his guess was wrong.
Once you pick the wrong direction, the harder you work, the worse it gets.
And Duan Yan was thinking way too highly of himself.
It was true that there were factions, cliques, and scheming inside the Anomaly Suppression Bureau, but everyone’s job was literally fighting for their lives against anomalous beings. Who would dare expose their back to someone like him?
Lu Zheng shook his head. With a backhanded palm, he struck Duan Yan right on the crown of his head.
"Pa!"
With a light sound, Duan Yan flipped over and collapsed, his life snuffed out.
"Eh? That’s it, he’s dead?" Bai Ting’Er said blankly. "We’re not going to keep asking questions?"
"Nothing that comes out of his mouth is true. Now that we know he’s from the Duan Family, it’s better to have the Government Office go dig around. A lot of Duan Family members did die, but it’s not like they were completely wiped out." Lu Zheng shook his head, then once again looked at Hu Cai Niang with great interest.
"What are you looking at!" Hu Cai Niang’s heart was guilty as hell, but she refused to lose in momentum. "I already told you, it was only those two times!"
"Feeling guilty, aren’t you?"
Hu Cai Niang stiffened her neck, but the words "not guilty" just wouldn’t come out of her mouth.
"Alright, alright, I get it." Hu Cai Niang let out a sigh.
Lu Zheng thought she was about to rein herself in a little, but Hu Cai Niang complained aggrievedly, "From now on I’ll only pick men whose background I fully understand, alright? I’ll investigate them before they come knocking, okay?
Besides, it’s not like I force anyone. Everyone’s clearly willing, and I even give them tonics to nourish their Yang Qi. Honestly, where are you going to find such a good fox spirit like me!"
Lu Zheng: ╭(°A°`)╮
Hu Cai Niang’s personality was just like that—sure, she was a bit of a sea queen, but it was all consensual. And since she promised to pay attention to safety in the future, it wasn’t really a problem.
"You girls deal with these two corpses. Remember to come play at Peach Blossom Plain in ten days or so."
Lu Zheng waved at the four equally helpless women, then flew off.
He went by the Anomaly Suppression Bureau first. By now they had also learned of the Duan Family massacre and were just about to send people to search the forests of Dingshan County when Lu Zheng arrived.
"I heard Daoist Yuan Jing was seriously injured. We were planning to go together in a group, but who knew Young Master Lu would already have taken care of him."
In the Anomaly Suppression Bureau, Du Huanzhen poured Lu Zheng a cup of tea, smiling warmly as she spoke.
"Thank you, Sis!"
Lu Zheng still used the same form of address, making Du Huanzhen laugh so hard her shoulders shook.
"I’ve already sent people to the Dingshan County Government Office to investigate the details of Duan Yan and the Duan Family. It’ll probably take a few days." Duan Changzai said from the side. "But in my opinion, most likely it’s that same old dog-blooded family feud routine. Daoist Yuan Jing probably got caught in the crossfire, and maybe even accidentally ruined some plan of Duan Yan’s."
For all they knew, Duan Yan had planned to manipulate the zombie into wiping out the Duan Family and everyone he didn’t get along with in one fell swoop.
He just hadn’t expected the Daoist they invited for the ritual to actually be pretty capable, managing to fight the zombie to mutual injury, save many members of the Duan Family, and force the zombie and him into the mountains to heal.
That was when he ran into Hu Cai Niang and traced things back to the Five Beauties Manor.
Of course, all of this was just speculation. Unless Duan Yan had some powerful backer, it had nothing to do with Lu Zheng anymore.
He went back and told Yuan Jing about it as well, and by then dinnertime was long over.
...
"So..."
Back at Peach Blossom Plain, Lu Zheng said with a straight face, "Even though we didn’t catch that wild ghost bandit, we ran into a zombie wreaking havoc, so this trip wasn’t for nothing."
"Daoist Yuan Jing is alright, I hope?" Liu Qingyan asked. "Corpse Qi entering the body has to be extracted as soon as possible."
"Don’t worry, I personally drew it out. It’s just that the zombie was pretty strong and hit Senior Brother with a nasty one, so he’ll probably have to rest for a while."
Lu Zheng waved his hand. "But it’s fine. Senior Brother Yuan Jing’s got great fortune and a big life. For him, this is just a superficial little injury."
Everyone, "..."
Shen Ying poured Lu Zheng a cup of tea and said lazily, "If I remember correctly, Daoist Yuan Jing’s been injured several times already."
Lu Zheng nodded. "Every time he gets injured, he can take another step forward."
Liu Qingyan couldn’t help bursting out laughing. "Is Daoist Yuan Jing a Saiyan or something?"
Lu Zheng was shocked. "You actually know what a Saiyan is?"
The others all laughed when they heard that.
Come to think of it, during the days they’d spent transmigrated to Blue Star, thanks to the highly developed internet, they had watched basically everything.
Besides the specific knowledge they looked up on purpose, their main intake was, of course, entertainment. Dragon Pearl, as a very famous anime, was pretty old, but it had still caught the eyes of the girls.
"Speaking of which, the Japanese really are talented in this area." Shen Ying commented; she had watched a few episodes of the anime.
Lu Zheng agreed. "The story’s good and pretty hot-blooded, but I still recommend reading the manga. It feels better than the anime."
