Chapter 382 - 381: A Test of Combat Power
WHOOSH!
A flash of arcing light—the Elf Giant Sword swung through the air, severing the tips of several more Short Spears.
In that instant, a Capture Net sailed toward him.
Caught in the net, Colin unhesitatingly unleashed a Burning Hand.
A torrent of Flame swept out like a tidal wave, incinerating the Capture Net and burning several approaching Kobolds alive.
The surrounding Kobolds froze for a moment.
In their experience, someone clad in Armor couldn’t cast Magic.
But now, this guy who looked like a statue was slaughtering them from within their encirclement, casting one spell after another with no sign of stopping. And his exposed hands proved he wasn’t a Golem...
’So what the hell is this thing?’
This hesitation didn’t last long.
Several more fearless Kobolds charged forward with loud cries.
As his opponents closed in, Colin shattered two clubs with a deft swing of his sword before cleaving into one of them.
At the same time, he chanted a Spell and casually unleashed a Flaming Arrow, knocking another Kobold to the ground.
Kase, deep in his Frenzy, turned and leaped forward, slaughtering the disarmed Kobolds.
At the same time, another Capture Net fell over Kase.
The Half-Orc simply grabbed the Capture Net and tore it to shreds. It did nothing to hinder his sweeping, powerful attacks, which were quite reminiscent of that Ora Kaim Skeleton Centurion from before.
Perfectly in sync, Colin turned and moved to position himself behind Kase again.
Several Kobolds armed with Short Spears were charging in from that direction, attempting a sneak attack on the opponent whose back was turned to them.
Colin narrowed his eyes and flicked his wrist.
The sword flowed like water, its silver gleam flashing in the air as the tips of several crude Stone Spears were once again sent flying.
Colin chanted another Spell, smashing a Kobold to the ground with a Flaming Arrow. The creature thrashed on the ground, screaming itself hoarse—a chilling sight to behold.
Such execution-style killing would certainly cause soldiers in a normal army to waver.
However, Colin could clearly see not a trace of fear in the Kobolds’ eyes; instead, they seemed strangely excited.
’The books said Kobolds were supposed to be timid creatures...’
As he was pondering this, another Capture Net came flying at him.
After cutting down two charging enemies with his sword, Colin once again held out his hands.
Another Burning Hand erupted forth, instantly claiming the lives of several Kobolds.
The incoming Capture Net was incinerated in midair, leaving behind nothing but a few scattered ashes.
Before the Magic Flames on the ground could die out, Ale’s Ice Range Magic followed.
WHOOOOSH—
A biting cold wind roared past the Kobolds, and the magical chill instantly coated their bodies in a layer of frost, freezing a dozen of them into ice sculptures.
The relentless barrage of Range Magic broke the Kobolds’ frenzied assault. They halted their attack, and a bit of clarity returned to their eyes.
Just then, a strange cry came from behind the Kobolds.
The spirits of the wavering Kobolds were instantly bolstered.
"Come on, face the mighty Bear Hunter!"
Kase’s roar came from behind. Hearing his comrade’s cry, Colin felt his own blood begin to boil and shouted back, "Bring it on! We’ll take you all!"
The Kobolds resumed their charge.
With a mere thought, Colin activated the energy stored within his magic Armor, further enhancing his Power.
Four Kobolds charged straight at him.
Colin cast a Spell, slashing forward with an Emerald Flame Sword.
The arc of Flame shattered several spear tips as it cut the four Kobolds down.
The scales on the small creatures were sliced and curled back. Not a single drop of blood seeped from the scorched wounds, just a sickening, hair-raising mixture of red and black.
Colin took a sharp sniff.
The stench of blood and burning had long since numbed his sense of smell. The blood splattering through the air seemed to coat his throat, filling it with a cloying, metallic-sweet taste.
"Colin!"
With Kase’s roar, a Kobold corpse came flying from behind, knocking back the Kobolds in front of Colin.
Seeing this, Colin immediately understood.
He freed one hand to take out the Mica Plate and aimed it forward.
The Concussive Wave activated again, completely clearing a six-meter radius in front of him. Kobolds bleeding from their mouths and noses collapsed to the ground.
Their bones and internal organs had been pulverized, leaving them as little more than piles of shredded meat that roughly maintained their original shape.
When the Magic ended, the morale the Kobolds had painstakingly rekindled was crushed once more.
The small creatures stood there at a loss, like young noblewomen who had wandered into the wrong ballroom.
Just then, a desperate, hoarse cry echoed from the distance.
Hearing this cry, the spirits of the surrounding Kobolds, which had begun to waver, firmed up again. They began muttering to one another, as if trying to build up their courage.
Colin looked in the direction of the shout.
About thirty meters away stood two figures in Leather Armor. They held iron-shod flails and were imperiously directing the surrounding Kobolds.
"Kase, give me a hand."
With that, Colin planted his Giant Sword in the ground beside him.
He drew a glass rod and a strip of Beast Hide from his waist. He rubbed the rod rapidly with the hide for a moment, then pointed its tip toward the approaching enemies.
KRAK—
With an explosive crack, a bolt of lightning shot from the tip of the glass rod, tearing through the dim air.
In the flash of lightning, every face on the battlefield looked deathly pale.
The lightning instantly pierced through the Kobolds’ loose formation.
The Kobolds in the front rank didn’t even have time to scream before their bodies were engulfed in electricity.
The current coursed wildly across the small creatures’ scales, instantly charring their colorful hides black and causing them to curl. The pungent stench of burning flesh filled the air.
The surging current didn’t stop with the sacrifice of the Kobolds in its path. Like a great serpent with a clear target, it shot straight through the obstacles and accurately struck the enemies standing thirty meters away.
The terrifying current caused both of them to convulse violently.
Their screams died in their throats, choked off by the raging current. Smoking, they staggered backward and collapsed, moving no more.
The short grass on the ground was charred black and curled, tiny embers still glowing on the blackened blades.
The entire battlefield fell silent.
The smell of burning flesh mingled with the foul stench of the Kobolds, a particularly acrid combination.
Colin put away his Casting Materials and pulled his Giant Sword from the earth with one hand.
He roared to the survivors, "Next!"
