Chapter 381 - 380: Surprise Attack on the Battlefield

The moment those head-sized glands hit the ground, they burst open, shooting countless white threads out in all directions.

The white threads stuck to tree trunks, binding all enemies together within a seven-meter radius spherical area and rendering them nearly immobile.

The landing point they chose for the glands was excellent, completely avoiding the convoy under attack.

Colin and Ale chanted a Spell at the same time.

A red and a yellow ball of Flame shot toward the two respective webs.

The moment the white threads came into contact with the Flame, they instantly ignited. Due to the webs’ properties, the creatures entangled within were completely unable to break free from the searing, flammable material.

The scene below instantly transformed into a living Purgatory.

Screams and wails echoed endlessly as humanoid figures, wreathed in Flame, ran about frantically, tearing at their own bodies.

It was then that Colin got a clear look at the enemy.

They were strange, short creatures.

These creatures were about the same height as Gnomes, standing only around a meter tall. Their bodies were covered in scales of red, green, black, white, and blue, and they resembled lizards that stood on their hind legs, with somewhat stronger forelimbs.

There was a terrifying number of them.

At a glance, there were nearly a hundred, and dozens had already been burned to death.

’Kobolds,’ Colin thought.

They obsessively believe they have the blood of Giant Dragons flowing through their veins and fanatically wish to serve all Giant Dragons. They are notorious as the lackeys of Giant Dragons.

They are extremely weak. Without a Giant Dragon’s patronage, Kobolds are a favorite snack for many wild predators. If not for their terrifying birth rate and the protection of Giant Dragons, they would have likely gone extinct long ago.

It was no surprise the Dragon Worship Cult could command such creatures, given their support from an Evil Dragon.

The Kobolds the group was about to face were clearly not a formidable bunch.

These creatures wore little more than tattered loincloths, and the quality of their weapons was about on par with those of goblins.

But their numbers were simply too great, and their fanaticism made them heedless of death.

Even though the convoy’s Guards had already killed over a dozen Kobolds, wave after wave of them continued to swarm out, attempting to annihilate the besieged convoy.

Just as Colin and the others were slowly descending, the Kobolds launched a counterattack.

The Kobold Scouts in the rear began to swing the Catapults in their hands.

Seeing this, Colin immediately pulled down his visor. Orelia grabbed the nearby Ale, shielding them from below with her Kite Shield.

Kase, however, simply continued shooting arrows as he pleased, while Dorn had vanished to who-knows-where.

The next moment, stone blocks flew up at them like rain.

CLANG! CLANG! CLANG!

The sound of metal and stone blocks colliding was incessant. Colin could feel every plate of his Plate Armor vibrating, but he felt no pain, only the impacts.

Beside him, Kase ignored the stone blocks completely. The stones simply bounced off him like raindrops.

Colin began to wonder if his brother-in-arms was even a carbon-based lifeform.

The moment he was in range, Colin took out a Mica Plate and aimed it at the enemies below.

He chanted the Spell, and the Magic took effect.

The ground, covered in fallen leaves and soil, began to tremble violently. Shredded leaves danced in the air as the pitiful Kobolds on the ground were shaken until they bled from their mouths and noses, collapsing in droves.

[Shatter]!

Meanwhile, a small point of light glowing with a faint golden sheen flew from the tip of Ale’s Magic Staff.

The point of light fell from midair and landed in the midst of the Kobold ranks.

It resembled a flower bud waiting to bloom, then in the next instant, it blossomed into a brilliant, ephemeral spark.

When the blossom vanished, all that remained were the torn, scorched bodies of countless Kobolds.

Range Magic was exceptionally effective against large numbers of weak enemies.

At the same time, Colin yanked the [Climbing Rope] from his waist and flung it out. The other end snagged on a branch in midair, pulling him toward the inside of the wagon circle.

As he gained initial momentum, Colin looked back at Ale and Orelia, chanted a Spell, and used [Misty Step] to move to their side.

He used his lateral momentum to deliver the two women precisely above the wagon circle, then let go.

Then he grabbed the rope, using the momentum to swing back over to Kase.

Seeing this, the Kobolds below immediately raised their Short Spears high, attempting to impale the two enemies as they fell.

It was an intimidating sight.

As this thought crossed his mind, Colin seized the opportunity. Just before he landed, he extended his hands and began to cast [Burning Hand].

The Flame that erupted from his palms tore through the Kobold formation, instantly obliterating the spear wall they had just assembled.

Colin and Kase landed one after another on the scorched ground.

The Half-Orc drew the Battle Axe from his waist and the frost-covered Short Spear from his back. "These little things aren’t even worth me using my ’big fella.’"

"Just be careful you don’t get tripped up by these runts," Colin said, drawing the Giant Sword from his back and instantly entering his Sword Dance stance.

"Just you watch, little brother Colin," Kase laughed. "This reminds me of the time we took on that Wolf Pack together."

The words had barely left his mouth when, amid a cacophony of chittering cries, countless Short Spears stabbed at them from all directions, and innumerable stone blocks were hurled their way.

Colin gripped his sword with both hands and instantly entered a [Defense in Attack] state.

The Elf Giant Sword in his hand carved a perfect arc through the air, shearing the tips right off several incoming Short Spears.

Despite his near-perfect technique, a single Giant Sword couldn’t possibly block the attacks of a dozen Short Spears. Colin could feel faint vibrations across his body; he had clearly been struck by the Kobolds.

However, the wooden Short Spears in the monsters’ hands clearly couldn’t pierce his metal Armor. Aside from the slight impact, they failed to inflict any real damage.

Still, this pack of Kobolds seemed to have some combat experience.

They strained with all their might, trying to use their Short Spears to push over Colin, who was clad like a lump of iron.

Once he was on the ground, the short Kobolds could leverage their superior numbers to completely overwhelm the tall human.

However, Kase, who was right beside him, wasn’t about to stand by and do nothing.

He let out a great roar and instantly entered a [Frenzy] state.

Kase charged forward, swinging his weapons relentlessly. He knocked aside one Short Spear after another, even tearing some of the charging Kobolds to pieces.

But no matter how valiant the Half-Orc was, two fists are no match for four hands. His back was his greatest weak point.

Just as the Kobolds tried to circle around to Kase’s back, Colin, now free, rushed forward to his companion’s rear.

He was completely focused, concentrating all his attention on defense.

The Kobolds swarming in from all directions vanished from his sight. All that remained were the Short Spears tipped with sharp flint and clubs studded with teeth.
