Chapter 188 - 117: Reaction (Part 2)
After Old Gao sent his nephew away, his secretary brought over another paternity test report late that night.
Apparently, Old Gao hadn’t completely trusted his nephew. That afternoon, he’d had his secretary take Gao Siqi to a hospital in the neighboring county and draw another vial of blood, using the excuse that he was worried about potential infections like AIDS and other viruses.
After receiving this paternity test report, Old Gao’s last shred of hope was finally extinguished.
In his study, he put both paternity test reports away in his safe, then sat in his chair to think.
「October 21st.」
Jiang Anye, who had just flown back from Busan, was a bit unsteady on his feet, but he insisted on tackling the company’s backlog of work anyway.
That evening, at a villa on a suburban farm, he met his son, Gao Siqi, and his secret lover, Su Nanlei.
"How could you be so careless?" Jiang Anye’s heart ached as he looked at the bandage on his son’s wrist.
Although Jiang Anye’s wife and another mistress had also borne him three sons and two daughters, none of them had amounted to anything.
After going to America to study, his eldest son immigrated there directly. He hadn’t been back in two or three years, and their father-son relationship was incredibly strained. This was mainly because the eldest son knew Jiang Anye had wronged his mother and would never change, so he had secretly taken his mother and younger sister away with him.
His second son, born to another mistress, was a junkie who was barely human anymore—basically a lost cause.
His third son was the second son’s twin brother. This one had actually shown the makings of a worthy heir, but he’d drowned while swimming at the beach five years ago.
His second daughter, also by his wife, had married and moved to East Japan, and they had virtually no contact anymore.
Therefore, Jiang Anye’s only options were to either win back his eldest son or groom his youngest son, Gao Siqi.
The only problem was that this son had to be kept in the shadows for now. After all, Old Gao’s family was very powerful in southern Great Ryukyu, and his younger brother’s status, in particular, was extraordinary.
Of course, this didn’t mean Jiang Anye was out of options. He’d already learned from his mistress, Su Nanlei, that Old Gao had cancer and likely only had six or seven years left to live. As long as they outlasted Old Gao, he would have his son, Gao Siqi, take the place of the legitimate heir.
Seeing Jiang Anye’s legs trembling and the deep hollows around his eyes, Su Nanlei knew the man must have been out with some other vixen. Still, she knew her place.
"You shouldn’t work yourself so hard. You’re not getting any younger. It’s not like when you were in your twenties or thirties."
"I know, but I can’t help it. That deal was important," Jiang Anye said dismissively, then turned to his son with a smile. "Siqi, you have to study hard. This business of mine will be yours one day."
"Dad! But what about Big Brother?" Although Gao Siqi hadn’t even graduated from high school yet, thanks to his mother’s constant coaching, he was well aware of his own status and the situation with his biological father’s family.
"He’s settled down in Maple Country and isn’t coming back. Don’t mention him again." The moment his eldest son was brought up, Jiang Anye’s expression instantly hardened.
Su Nanlei quickly chimed in to smooth things over. "There, there. Siqi just doesn’t want to see brothers turning on each other."
"Let’s not talk about it." Jiang Anye also felt the matter was too complicated and changed the subject. "How’s that old man been lately?"
"No change. Same as always. But his nephew, Gao Siwen, came over yesterday. They talked in the study for half an hour. It wasn’t convenient for me to go in, so I don’t know what they discussed." Su Nanlei gently kneaded Jiang Anye’s shoulders.
Jiang Anye’s eyes flickered. "Oh? Find an opportunity to listen in."
"Mhm."
Glancing at the sky, Jiang Anye reluctantly stroked Su Nanlei’s delicate hands. "It’s getting late. You two should head back, so that old man doesn’t get suspicious."
"Fine. Ugh! I wish that damn old man would just die already. Then we wouldn’t have to live in constant fear." Su Nanlei said, getting emotional.
Gao Siqi comforted his mother, "Don’t worry, Mom. We just have to wait a few more years. Let’s just be patient."
"Be good. That old man is on his last legs anyway. Just think of it as being his caretaker for a few years, and then you’ll get an inheritance of tens of millions of US dollars." Jiang Anye said, holding her and gently patting her back.
"I know. We’re leaving now. You get some rest."
Su Nanlei left with her son in her BMW.
The sun sank in the west, leaving a bloody stain on the horizon.
He watched his mistress and son drive away, then turned and walked toward the villa. The moment he opened the front door, his eyes flew wide.
The dark muzzle of a gun was pressed against his chest.
Immediately after, he heard the faint sound of more footsteps behind him.
"Gentlemen, I’m not sure how I’ve offended you. If it’s money you want, just name your price."
"Is that so?"
Hearing that voice behind him, a chill shot down Jiang Anye’s spine. Cold sweat beaded on his forehead. The voice was all too familiar; he knew instantly who it was.
「The villa’s living room.」
Trussed up like a turkey, Jiang Anye knelt on the floor, looking at Old Gao, who was seated on the sofa. He said nothing, fully aware of how the man dealt with his enemies.
"Black Dog... I never imagined you had it in you. To think the little street punk from back in the day would become such a powerful and cunning business magnate." Old Gao wasn’t hysterical. Instead, he spoke of the past with a terrifying calm.
However, anyone who knew Old Gao understood that the calmer he appeared, the more violently the rage burned within him. It just hadn’t erupted yet.
"Mr. Gao, I was a fool, bewitched. Kill me, torture me—do as you will. Just don’t make things difficult for Nanlei and Siqi. The two of them are innocent." Jiang Anye pleaded, his tone resigned to death.
