I See through Everything

Chapter 142 - 101: Purge (Part 2)

The Economic Crimes Investigation Division, having already prepared all the necessary paperwork, arrived with the policewoman from before. They swiftly handcuffed Wang Bohua, Zheng Shengtian, Huang Lili, and Yan Xinting, put black hoods over their heads, and escorted them into the police cars.

A moment later, three police cars, lights flashing and sirens wailing, sped away from Nanhu Village.

The news of Wang Bohua, Zheng Shengtian, Huang Lili, and Yan Xinting being taken away for investigation didn’t just set the company abuzz with discussion. Many onlookers from Nanhu Village and Magong Town were also trying to find out what had happened.

However, Jiang Haibo soon came forward to clarify the situation. He also announced the establishment of a Supervisory Office, to be headed by the former deputy manager of the Legal Department, Li Haoran.

Li Haoran, who had just been another curious onlooker, was completely baffled.

"General Manager Jiang? Is there some mistake? I’m supposed to manage the Supervisory Office?"

Jiang Haibo smiled and nodded. "That’s right, Haoran. This was the boss’s decision. Congratulations on the promotion."

"Heh heh... I just want to take it easy," Li Haoran said with an awkward laugh. He couldn’t imagine what the future held for him. After all, a department like the Supervisory Office sounded like the company’s version of the Jinyi Guard; he was sure to become the most unwelcome person in every other department.

Jiang Haibo patted his shoulder. "Don’t worry! The boss knows you don’t like to socialize. This position is perfect for you."

’Let me say thank you.’

’Because of you, the seasons are warm.’

At that moment, those were the only lyrics Li Haoran wanted to sing in his head.

However, he knew you couldn’t win against the powers that be, so he had no choice but to accept the appointment.

’Anyway, the company doesn’t have that many employees right now, so the supervision work should be pretty easy.’

Li Haoran quickly asked, "General Manager Jiang, how many people are in the Supervisory Office? And where is the office?"

"The offices here at headquarters are full right now, so you’ll be on the fourth floor of the cafeteria in the experimental zone. The staff will be five people for now; the HR department is already recruiting."

"So I’m a general without an army right now!" Li Haoran felt his face darken.

Moreover, if he recalled correctly, the boss’s personal lounge was on the third floor of that same cafeteria. The boss spent most of his time at the labs, only visiting the chairman’s office at headquarters once or twice a week.

The thought of having to work right under the boss’s nose all day long made his stomach churn.

"Can’t we find another spot? How about we squeeze in with the Legal Department? I wouldn’t mind."

Jiang Haibo shook his head. "There’s no room in the Legal Department either. But next month, the E-commerce and Sales departments are moving into Nanhu Village, so you’ll be able to move back here then."

"Oh, that’s good." Li Haoran breathed a sigh of relief. Inside, he was thinking, ’I can happily slack off again!’

...

「Meanwhile.」

Jiang Haibo sent the internal announcement he had prepared in advance to the company’s main group chat, instructing the managers of every department and division to immediately relay the notice regarding the internal action.

Li Zhou was the first to forward it to the Sales Department’s internal work group.

The other department managers quickly followed suit.

As for the source of this whole affair...

Over at the Qiongzhou Sea Branch.

Zheng Siwen, who had just finished forwarding the announcement, noticed that his colleagues were looking at him strangely.

This was especially true for Ah Yi, a guy he used to work with. He had a look of sudden realization, as if he finally understood why the boss had promoted Zheng Siwen so heavily after his last visit, why new people had been transferred in, and why, half a month ago, Wang Bohua had been recalled directly to headquarters. He hadn’t realized this was the story behind it all.

Zheng Siwen didn’t bother correcting his colleagues’ assumptions. Instead, he addressed them head-on:

"Everyone, as employees of this company, we’re given excellent treatment by the boss. I hope none of us will prove to be ungrateful. In the future, the company will be awarding us with phantom stock—that’s something very few companies do. If everyone remains apathetic and turns a blind eye to wrongdoing, what kind of future can this company possibly have?"

"That’s right. I agree with Manager Zheng’s sentiment," said Zhao Xihua, the branch’s legal counsel, as she stood up in support.

The other employees also chimed in with their support.

Even if some didn’t truly agree, they didn’t dare show it. This was a time for agreement; voicing any opposition would just be asking for trouble.

Zheng Siwen paid no mind to whether his colleagues were being sincere. He simply moved on, saying, "That’s enough about that. We have work to do. Master Zhang, what’s the situation at the Durian Plantation?"

"Manager Zheng," replied Master Zhang, the agricultural technician poached from another durian company, "per the boss’s instructions, we have completely stripped all the fruit from the four Monthong durian trees numbered 236, 288, 332, and 362. We’ve also increased the application of water, fertilizer, and growth regulators." He then added:

"The two Musang King durian trees, numbers 23 and 36, have been given the same treatment."

Zheng Siwen immediately followed up with an order: "Excellent. Keep it up. Also, begin the grafting process. Use these Monthong and Musang King trees as the mother stock to progressively graft onto the other durian trees."

The goal was to rapidly expand the stock of mature branches from these superior cultivars.

Those four Monthong and two Musang King trees were among the best specimens in the two plantations.

They possessed a degree of cold resistance, higher sweetness, a decent fruit-bearing rate, and a good flesh yield, with a reliably standard flavor.

Therefore, to propagate them, all the fruit from the current year had to be removed. This would prevent the trees from expending too much energy on fruiting.

By grafting mature branches from these superior trees onto others, they would have nearly a thousand new sources of high-quality mature branches by the following year.

Fortunately, the parent trees were quite mature. With sufficient water, fertilizer, and growth regulators, they would grow vigorously this year, becoming lush and leafy.

The plan was to harvest 100 mature branches from each of these grafted trees in March of next year, another 50 in June, and a final 50 in September, for an estimated total of 200,000 mature branches.

This was not a sufficient quantity; it would only be enough to graft onto roughly 1,500 mu of Floss Silk trees.

But there was nothing to be done; the two plantations in Qiongzhou could only supply that many.

To solve the shortage of grafting stock, Jiang Miao had already instructed Zheng Siwen to continue acquiring local Durian Plantations in Qiongzhou, especially large ones spanning several thousand mu.

If they could acquire one large-scale Durian Plantation, the supply issue for mature branches would essentially be solved.

However, Jiang Miao wasn’t holding out much hope for acquiring a large plantation. Consequently, Zheng Siwen was also focusing on following up with smaller durian orchards across Qiongzhou, planning to increase their stock of mature trees by accumulating many small properties.
