Chapter 22: Boundless
He had raised that question because he realized he had completely ignored his Innate ability since the last time he had used it.
But now that he was back and ready to start his search for answers about that incident, he needed strength and he needed it fast.
"Golden Monkeys? Now that is something I don’t hear often anymore," he heard Mona respond.
"You used to hear about it? What happened then?" he questioned.
"You really love asking a lot of questions, don’t you?" Mona replied while shaking her head.
"There was once a famous Bearer; he was known as Boundless."
"Why?" Morden questioned.
"Would you just let me finish?" Mona berated.
"He was called Boundless due to the fact that up to a point the genes he could record weren’t bound by anything, and word later got out that it was due to the first gene he recorded being from a Golden Monkey."
"It started a crazy trend then, with new bearers hoping to find one as their first Gene,"
Morden listened to Mona speak attentively, picking up tiny bits of information that slowly brought a smile to his face but also raised some questions.
"Are the genes Bearers Could record bound?" Morden asked.
Hearing Morden’s question, Mona was just about to open her mouth to insult him, but she decided against it.
"You didn’t know about that, and the first thing you asked was about attributes."
"And yes, to answer your question, Bearers are bound by the type of gene they first record; you could say it determines their path."
"For example, a Bearer that records a gene from a Fire Alligator will be bound to the fire path and can slightly have body-tempering genes but only low-level ones," she responded.
"But why?"
"Because the Genetic Tree where you have your gene slots mutate after your first gene is recorded."
"Wowww, then that Boundless dude must be really unpredictable," Morden said with an approving nod.
"Yes, he was; he was a legend, too bad he was only able to get a low-grade gene, and that wasn’t enough to stabilize the Genetic Tree so over time, the Tree eventually mutated, and he couldn’t continue the boundless part."
"Why exactly did you even ask about a Golden Monkey, you just recorded your first gene; it’s not like you can change it," Mona added in a slightly condescending tone.
But Morden was already too focused on other things in his head to bother with other things.
’It seems I will be the second coming of Boundless, and unlike him, due to my innateness, I won’t run into the same problem he did,’ his smile deepening.
"So to answer your earlier question, No, I don’t know where you can find Golden Monkeys, in fact, no one does."
Now the smile on Morden’s face slowly bent downward into a frown.
"What do I do now?"
"If you don’t have any more questions, I will be taking my leave now, and you can do the same anytime too."
"Be careful and don’t die; we will find you if need be."
"Ohh and lastly remember to head to the Bearer’s organization to register tomorrow, you just might end up seeing something interesting,"
With those words, Mona turned around confidently and walked out of the investigation room with long, confident strides, leaving Morden alone with his thoughts.
He remained seated for about five more minutes before deciding to head back home despite not wanting to; he knew he would eventually have to go back there.
At the entrance, he looked back into the dimly lit room where he had been beaten and investigated yesterday, where he got his tattoo not too long ago, and with a soft sigh, he turned back around to leave.
Since he was arrested from a crime scene with blood everywhere, there was obviously some dried-out blood all over his clothes, giving Morden a fierce look.
After a few steps through the dark hallway, Morden arrived at the outer area of the police station where the counters were and the officer that had been beating him previously was sitting.
The two of them were already looking in that direction with scared, expectant eyes before, so when Morden came into view, they locked eyes.
Morden noticed the Stern-looking man who had actually done all the beating was looking really scared, and his gentle apprentice was looking more mortified.
But instead of saying anything or doing anything to them, Morden just walked right past, and when he arrived at the entrance, he gave a deep bow before opening the door toworld;.
The two officers: "..."
Outside the police station, Morden looked around him with curious eyes since he had arrived in this world, he hadn’t actually gotten a look at anything; it was always from one trouble to another.
"It is so strange that this place looks almost the same as earth," he said while looking at night lights coming from buildings illuminating the surroundings and the different cars speeding by.
"It’s only that Earth doesn’t have people that can shoot fireballs, or read minds, or kill you with one punch."
He walked slowly through the sidewalks. partly because he didn’t want to return there and also because he only knew the way through a memory that wasn’t rwerely clear.
His slow walk and his bloodied appearance didn’t bother anyone on the street at all; they all looked as if his appearance was a normal, run-of-the-mill thing for them.
After a while of scrambling a bit, Morden finally managed to arrive in front of the building that the original owner of the body used to call home, and he would soon be doing too.
The house was a one-story building that seemed just right for a family of four; it was made of small red bricks, which looked odd compared to the other buildings around it but also gave it a unique vibe.
With a deep sigh and heavy footsteps, he approached the door before suddenly remembering something.
"I don’t have the key,"
"Ohhh damn, what am I supposed to do now, sleep outside?"
He thought when he looked down at the door handle, and an idea came into his mind.
"I have superhuman strength now,"
He held onto the handle, ready to activate boost to actually break it cleanly, but under the light force hforerted, Morden felt the door slowly slide open.
’It was unlocked,’
He looked into the slightly familiar dark living room, except from the last time he was here, there was blood everywhere, and took a step in.
