Chapter 21: Bearer Info
’Finally,’
The journey back was just like how he felt when he was about to head to the Omnisphere in the first instance. Morden could feel himself slowly growing lightheaded, almost as if his Spirit was floating out.
But unlike the last time he felt this feeling, he didn’t feel himself ascending continuously; instead, he felt himself ascend up to a point, and then it was followed by an intense pull downward.
The change was so sharp and abrupt that Morden could almost swear that his organs had shifted.
Might be due to the force behind it or something else, but the feeling didn’t last too long before Morden could slowly feel his body again.
"Ughhhh, that was rough," He groaned while holding his head.
"Now look at that, I don’t have to kill anyone today," he suddenly heard a slightly familiar voice, startling him slightly.
Morden opened his eyes to look at the woman still standing in her previous position with the same confident look.
"How long have I gone?" he asked in a calm, gentle tone.
"Just about two hours. I was expecting to see you slowly mutated into a weird zombie-like monster, but it seems like you managed to make it."
Listening to her words, Morden couldn’t help but look at her strangely, questions popping up everywhere in his mind.
"Two hours? A day in the Omnisphere is just two hours here?"
"Yes, yes it is."
"If I had failed the trial or died there, would I have turned into a Monster?" he asked.
"Exactly, you would have become something almost no one can recognize; I guess you were lucky."
"Hmmm, lucky, uhhh," he muttered while memories of the trials flashed in his mind, especially the scenes where the villagers were slowly turning into dust.
"Do you think you weren’t lucky? Do you know just how many percent of people actually survive their first trial?
"There’s no way for you to know, so I will be telling you directly, just about 20%."
Morden, who had been listening to her speak, was waiting for her to say a fairly large number, like 40%, but not only didn’t she say 40% or even 30%, she said a measly 20%.
"What? why is it so low?"
"Why wouldn’t it be? How do you expect a random person that just randomly got a tattoo and was transported to the Omnisphere in ten minutes to manage to find a beast to kill"
"Most fail before even getting to see their assigned Mission,"
Morden couldn’t help but fall silent after that; he hadn’t expected the case to be so crazy. It seemed like he was actually a little lucky then, but then her next words immediately made him refute that thought.
"But it isn’t all too bad either; those who actually get their assigned mission usually have fairly simple ones, rarely do you see one that involves other powered people."
"What? Not only was I made to fight powered people, I even ended up meeting that person," he thought while shivering a little.
And then he looked back at the woman in front of him to see her staring at him with an interested expression.
"Ohhh, it seems your trial was really... interesting; it’s harder to read your mind now."
"You have grown, uhh," she added with a smile.
Morden stared at her with a weird, innocent expression that resulted in the woman clicking her tongue in dissatisfaction.
"So what now?" he asked, remembering the fact that he was still in an investigation room.
"Uhm, now you will be let go and given the chance to return home."
"I hear you have been here for a day or two; that should be enough time for them to have cleaned up your home."
The word "clean up his home" hit Morden in a rather strange way; he knew by "clean up" she meant the bodies of the family he had supposedly killed.
She also noticed the change in Morden’s expression and felt a bit bad, so she decided to change the topic quickly.
"But before that, you need to get some real Bearer knowledge, or you might end up dead before the end of your first week as a Bearer, and trust me, that has happened a lot."
"The first thing you need to know is that the Omnisphere you will be entering now is how it was during your trials; the next time you enter, you will be assigned a local community where you will have a spawning room and all that. I won’t be going into details for now; just remember the real Omnisphere is different."
"Secondly, the Bearer world is darker than you could ever, ever imagine; it’s in no way bright, so watch what you do, who you talk to, and everything else."
Morden sat there looking at the woman, speaking with rapt attention, not daring and not even willing to disturb her in any way.
"And thirdly, you should have gotten most information about your actual powers from your status screen, but if you have any questions, you ask now."
Finally having the towel thrown back to him, Morden wondered for a bit what he should ask, but he finally settled on the first question.
"What’s your name, and are you some sort of bearer police?" he asked.
Expecting Morden to jump straight into questions like about his powers and all that, she was slightly shocked to hear his first question be something like that.
"He is really cautious and calm, I give him that," she thought to herself before deciding to respond.
"My name is Mona, and no, I am not a Bearer police; before you ask what I am, just know that you aren’t qualified to know," she said.
Slightly disappointed that he couldn’t get all the answers he wanted in the first attempt, he could only shake his head to ask his question.
"Okay, Miss Mona, my next question will be, do you know what attributes are and how do you get one?"
Another round of shock was given to Mona after hearing that one, and instead of responding, she decided to ask a question of her own.
"Where do you hear about those and yes I know what they are, but you aren’t qualified to."
"What do you mean I am not qualified?"
"It means you will die and you won’t know how," Mona dropped in a firm voice.
Feeling a bit uncomfortable, Morden decided to switch up his question and ask about something that seemed easier.
"Do you know about Golden Monkeys and where can I find them?"
