Chapter 31: Merlin the Diviner
After hearing Morden’s request, the receptionist couldn’t help but frown slightly and Wonder.
"Is that all that he was so nervous to say? a Mission request is a really simple and Normal thing."
Quite unsure if Morden was done, the receptionist decided to question further.
"Is that all, sir?" she asked.
The question came as quite a shock to Morden, so for a bit, he couldn’t figure out what to say.
"Should there be more?" he raised.
"Ohh no no, I was just slightly taken aback by your reaction before you raised the request."
"Wait, are mission requests a normal thing?"
"Yes, they absolutely are. People come all the time to drop mission requests both for the real world and the Omnisphere."
"Wow, that makes things easier then," Morden muttered.
"I would like to submit a request."
The two of them went back and forth for a bit more before the receptionist decided to lead Morden towards another area.
The new part of the Bearer’s organization they currently were in appeared to be something like an Archive, there were books stacked neatly on shelves behind a desk where a lady sat.
"Brenda, I brought someone; he wants to upload a mission request," the receptionist Morden had been following spoke up.
The lady called Brenda looked up from the book in front of her, circular-rimmed glasses moving back into place, and for a brief moment she shared a curt nod with the receptionist.
"What does the mission entail, sir, and how much are you willing to offer as a reward?"
Noticing the attention back on him, Morden stepped forward a bit and raised his voice to respond.
"I am in need of someone that can track others down, and I am willing to pay a thousand Federation notes."
"I don’t mind spending all I have left if it means I will find that bastard again."
Multiple cities, the flowing river city included, were all part of a large, encompassing Federation. The Federation rose to power alongside a power-bearer that wanted to unite everyone.
The unification didn’t come without its problems, though; multiple cities that were previously standalone were now together, so there’s undoubtedly going to be some exchange, but the difference in currencies made it difficult.
So the federation came up with a solution, which was to create a unified currency everyone will use, and the solution was the Federation notes.
Upon hearing the amount of money Morden was willing to offer just to track someone down, the two ladies immediately had two theories in their heads.
"It is either he is the illegitimate son of one political figure or the mission is extremely dangerous."
But Looking at Morden’s clothes, the two of them leaned towards the second option more.
"Alright, sir, the mission request will be updated now, and since the Mission is a fairly common one, you should be seeing people accepting it soon, so it will be up to you to decide who you want."
"If you don’t mind, you can stay in the room just beside this one, and anyone that accepts the Mission will be sent over."
Morden didn’t refute or ask any further questions; he just turned his head to check the room they were talking about before proceeding to approach it, leaving the two women in the area.
Walking into the room, Morden saw two chairs separated by a small round table, and he immediately got the idea.
’This place isn’t for comfort, just someone to accept your mission and leave.’
He walked towards the Chair that was deeper in the room so he could face the door directly and see anyone the instant they entered.
He sat down and waited patiently.
’I just hope I am able to get someone willing to do this, despite me not having any clue.’
’I should have at least tried getting something, a piece of clothing or something,’
"But how Could I when I was fighting an—’
His thoughts were cut short when someone walked into the room; it was a man that looked quite ordinary, the only special thing being his clothes.
He was dressed in what appeared to be a long women’s gown with a belt tightening it at the waist.
’Why the hell is he dressed like that?’
"Hello, I read the mission you just posted, and I think I am interested, let’s talk about the details."
The attire was weird enough for Morden to be skeptical about the person, but he still decided to give it a chance.
"I am trying to find someone, but I have absolutely nothing about him."
"I don’t know his name or what he looks like; all I know is his voice, and that might even be fake," Morden said to the man in front of him before he could even take his seat.
And when the man heard what Morden had just said, he just had to stop and look at him again with a questioning gaze laced with a bit of anger.
"How am I supposed to find him then?" the gown-wearing man said.
In response, Morden could only keep his mouth shut and gently drop his head.
"I should have known this was a prank when I saw the reward Money," the man added before storming back out.
He didn’t attempt to stop the man since he had also slightly expected that response.
After the man, two others came into the room, but they also angrily left after Morden gave them the mission specifics.
At that point, Morden was already growing impatient and was ready to leave the place and look for other ways to search for the man.
Just when he was about to leave, someone finally opened the door and walked into the room, and this time Morden couldn’t help but smile.
This time the person looked normal, or better said, the person looked how he had expected someone into something like that to look.
The man also walked deeper into the room, and before Morden could open his mouth to say anything, the man spoke first.
"Hello, Morden Tales. I knew you would find me."
"I am Merlin, the Diviner."
