Chapter 67: Exploration
Morden watched the sky in front of him with a face or extreme shock, he watched the clouds drifting, the gigantic birds flying all around.
All the things in his sight seemed like a typical sight one would see in a fantasy world and that wasn’t the main thing that actually shocked him.
It was the fact that everything he was seeing was all below him.
He was looking down at the clouds and everything, a fact that pointed only on a single thing.
He was currently on a gigantic mountain that pierced straight through the clouds.
"How the hell am I supposed to get down from her?" Morden said.
Where he came out from seemed like a tunnel through the mountain that led to a cliff edge. The spot he was currently standing wasn’t even the top of the mountain; it still continued far above that place.
"I think l am going to check out the second side first,"
Having made that decision, Morden didn’t hesitate to turn around and head into the cave that turned out to be a tunnel.
He was back in the dark environment, but he didn’t care about that; he just walked straight, and soon he was back where he had woken up before.
With the Ghost slayer sword still in hand, he began heading to the right side he had ignored earlier.
His walk through the right side was almost similar to what he had experienced on the first side, and that was the fact that he hadn’t met anything.
A few minutes later, he got to the edge of the tunnel, but unlike the other side, there wasn’t a cliff that prided out of the side; instead, the tunnel exit seemed squished into the mountain side.
"What the hell?" Morden said again when he looked at the sight in front of him.
The only difference between the two sides wasn’t just the presence or absence of a cliff; it was a whole different ecosystem.
The clouds on this side were dark and stormy, the sky was dark grey, and even the instant he peeked out, he could already see a gigantic bird of prey carrying the head of another beast.
"What sort of duality is this? On one side we have a bright, beautiful atmosphere, and here there’s the dark and creepy atmosphere."
"You have to be freaking kidding me," he added when he eventually looked down.
Unlike the left side, where going down would almost certainly kill him, this side has a clean slope that made it such that he could slide straight down with little to no difficulty.
"It’s like I am being forced straight down the arduous path," he muttered.
Though he didn’t want to do it either, he knew there was absolutely no other choice for him; he couldn’t just remain in the cave when he had no idea where he was and couldn’t just jump off the cliff either.
"I guess we are sliding down then."
He looked down at the boots he was wearing to confirm if they could withstand it, and at first sight it actually seemed like they could.
He sat down on the edge of his tunnel and placed his legs on the side of the mountain.
[Durability +20]
With a boost to increase his durability, Morden didn’t think too much anymore, and he just stood up at once since there was nothing holding him down.
He slid down the side of the mountain with astonishing speed. As a result of that speed, he could feel the bottom of his shoes already heating up.
He ignored it, and he kept his eyes locked forward.
Soon he was approaching the stormy cloud, so he just closed his eyes and braced for the effect.
"I just hoped I didn’t get electrocuted."
The moment those words left his mouth, he had jinxed it as he felt a tiny zap flow through his body, jolting his mind a little.
But that was just the testing zap; immediately after that, more and more tiny charges entered his body, shocking him senseless. Morden let go of every other thing; the only thing on his mind was to keep his body close to the mountain so he doesn’t fall off.
Ten minutes later, he had successfully passed through the sea of clouds, and the lightning zaps had reduced to almost nothing, but he was still extremely high above ground.
But now he could actually get a real look at the grounds. What he saw was mostly similar to what he saw from up above, the ground had a forest. A forest unlike anything Morden had ever seen.
The closer he got, the more details he was able to glean and the more disturbed he looked.
The trees didn’t have green-colored leaves; instead, they were completely black. Morden was only able to tell them apart because of the dark red soil that was visible between them.
"Never in my life would I have thought I would slide down the side of a mountain, but I would be sliding into the abyss.
He had already tagged this place as the abyss and the other side as heaven a while ago.
At this point on his side, Morden noticed that he was already getting extremely close to the part of the mountain that joined the forest below, which meant that if he continued sliding, he would end up smashing extremely hard on a tree.
"But how do I slow down?"
That question hadn’t left the air when the answer to his question was almost immediately answered: "You don’t slow down; you end up getting grabbed as lunch."
He felt a shadow being cast on him from something directly above him but also falling at the exact same speed as he was.
Raising his head to look, he saw a giant eagle-like genetic beast. The beast had all of its feathers made of a very vast array of color, each one coming together to give it an exquisite look.
"Well, at least I would die to a beautiful beast."
