Chapter 68: Reverse is the Case

Contrary to what Morden had expected, the colorful bird beast didn’t swoop in to grab him; it didn’t even do anything.

It just kept looming over him while also descending with almost the same speed as he was. It almost looked as if it was protecting him.

He didn’t dare close his eyes during his long slide down Morden; he could see what was going on, and no one was as baffled as he was.

It was just too strange for such a menacing-looking beast to just fly at him like that, without showing any signs of wanting to attack.

’Wait, can it be that it’s stalking me to see if I pose any threat, or is it waiting till I stop sliding so it could swoop down and grab me easily?’

’Both scenarios seem extremely likely; I really need to make as many preparations as possible.’

Having concluded on that, Morden immediately began his mental preparations, formulating responses for various situations he could find himself in.

Every few seconds he would steal a glance at the bird-like beast to see if there were any changes in it, but every single time the beast was just quietly flying there.

’The longer it is staying, the more it’s confirming my suspicion.’

Morden looked down at the ground to check how far away he actually was, and to his surprise, he wasn’t actually that far away.

In fact, he could reach the ground any moment now.

The ground and the mountain base had blended together in such a way that they had become a single continuous structure.

"This will be a little rough," he muttered.

He braced himself for the impact of hitting the ground since the transfer in velocity is bound to send him flying even if it’s just a little bit away.

BAM!

His body hit the ground harshly, followed by a few meters of rolling, sending aching pain signals to his brain, but Morden couldn’t afford to just wait and calm down.

A death threat was looming over his head.

Ignoring the pain that was currently coursing through him, Morden hurriedly rose to his feet and turned to look at the multi-colored bird.

He noticed it still just staring down at him with little to no reaction. The two of them were now locked in a staring contest, none of them willing to take the first step.

’It seems like I was right; it was actually waiting for me to get to the ground before making his mo—’

He was still thinking when he noticed the bird charging down at him, talons first.

Though he had expected it, he was still very shocked by the sudden attack, causing his own response to be a little delayed, and the bird beast noticed that too.

Morden could only watch as the beast Talons was about to tear his face off.

Just as the talons were about to connect, though, they were suddenly withdrawn.

The Multi-colored Beast had created a little distance between them, giving Morden the chance to bring the Ghost slayer sword forward in preparation for another attack.

The attack he expected didn’t happen; he watched as Bird turned around and slowly flew away, but not without a cry of mockery.

SCREECH!!!!!

"What the hell just happened?" Morden muttered with an extremely confused face.

A beast he was prepared to have a fight to the death with just gave him a jumpscare and was now flying away while releasing a cry of mockery.

"Did I hit my head or something? Why was I just mocked by a bird?"

His eyes remained locked on the beast vanishing figure, completely speechless. Soon it was already too far away for him to see anymore.

"It is really gone," he muttered before taking his eyes off it and trying to take a good look at his surroundings.

He was currently standing in a clear area before where the forest tree started growing.

Just like how it was when he was coming down, the ground beneath his feet was dark red, like it was stained with old blood. He could also see the black leaves of trees growing not too far away.

"I better get into a more closed space before that bastard returns again," Morden said while approaching the forest.

He was currently finding it difficult to decide if he should stay on this abyssal side or try to circle the side to cross over towards the heavenly side.

"I am not staying here anymore; I am going to the other side now."

He looked back up towards the direction he came up in, trying to gauge the direction he was coming from.

’I passed through a tunnel up there, and I walked in a straight line, which means if I walk around the side of this mountain, I should get to the other side.’

With that plan in mind, Morden began his journey towards the other side (Heavenly Side).

He hadn’t worked far when he suddenly heard the sound of movement from his left.

’Something’s coming,’

He didn’t dare continue moving brazenly; he just stopped, materialized the Ghost Slayer sword, and got ready for what was to come.

A few seconds later.

Rustle, rustle!

The sound of rustling bush sounded again, confirming Morden’s thought while also giving him another piece of information.

It wasn’t just one thing that was currently approaching him; they were two.

’They are too close for me to even attempt running; I would just be exposing my back to an unknown enemy. That’s not a chance I am willing to take.’

After waking up in a completely foreign environment known as the Old World, Morden had already programmed himself to be ready to fight to the absolute death against anything that tries to attack.

The rustling sound grew louder until something finally emerged from the bush.

It was a completely purple crocodile.

Upon seeing what had appeared in front of him, Morden’s eyes couldn’t help but be opened wide in shock.

"Is that... a bunny?"
