Chapter 52: Escape
Both Morden and Darlus were immediately taken aback when they heard that, since the change in atmosphere felt so sudden.
’Why are a lot of Bearers after us so suddenly,’
"There’s no time for me to explain, we need to move as soon as possible," Lisa said.
Despite still having a lot of questions to ask, the two of them knew from Lisa’s tone that it wasn’t the right time to ask at all so they decided to listen.
They dropped their heads low and prepared to leave that area as soon as possible.
"Where do we go," Morden asked in a voice so low it was almost a whisper.
"Since we were here to actually grow stronger then it’s best head into the forest immediately,"
"But I have to warn you, the forest of Chaos isn’t a kids party,"
Those words hadn’t even finished leaving Lisa’s mouth when she turned around and began moving away.
It took a few seconds for the other two to get a scope of what was happening and then they hurriedly approached Lisa.
"Do not move too close, just keep a little bit of distance between each other," Lisa said from the front without turning around.
Hearing her instructions, Morden didn’t question it and neither did Darlus, one of them just slowed down his pace and created a gap between him and the other.
So now, the trio were moving in what appeared to be a file but with enough distance between them for them to not be considered walking together and close enough for them to be able to know where the other one went immediately.
’So now it should be much easier to escape too, it will be much harder to catch the three of us at once,’
A smile formed on his face accompanied by a gentle nod when he actually thought about the ingenuity of Lisa’s plan.
’She really is smart and experienced,’
Maintaining their formation, the trio moved through Evergreen City as cleanly and silently as possible. They moved from one corner to another, they made curves and even detours and eventually the city gate was already directly in front of them.
’We made it, now the final obstacles are the guards over there,’ Morden said while he stared at the gate itself.
The Evergreen City gate was a large golden colored metallic gate, the top areas engraved with the Word ’Evergreen’. The gate wasn’t that big like the one to the Flowing River City but it didn’t look any less majestic.
Just at its base were two guards dressed in metallic armor while holding two long spears.
’How do we get past them,’
At this moment, the three finally realized the disadvantage their plans had brought them, the distance between them was already too far away for them to communicate without shouting.
’I guess we just have to follow Lisa’s lead,’
As they got closer to the city gate, Morden noticed Lisa wasn’t slowing down at all, she just kept walking at her Normal place without care of the two guards.
Since it wasn’t only them going through the gates, the others at least had slow steps while some even gave courteous bows but Lisa didn’t do any of that.
She just walked through the gate confidently and no one seemed to stop her, there wasn’t even a single beat or attempt to stop her in any way.
’How wow, it’s really that simple uhh?’ Morden thought.
Since Darlus was still in front of him in their arrangement, Morden calmed down and observed what was going to happen and just like in Lisa’s situation there was no reaction at all.
Which means the two of his teammates have managed to go out freely and it was his turn.
’I should be fine, just don’t do anything different from the other two,’
With his self reassurance, Morden subconsciously increased his pace a tiny bit and soon he was just about to cross the gate. Just a few more steps and he would be out. But things never go that way.
Morden took one more step forward and then something changed in the two unmoving guards.
The sound of Metal rubbing against metal rung out , signifying one thing to Morden, even without turning to check, he knew what was happening
The guards were moving.
In response to the sound, Morden immediately slowed down as he turned his head to look at the guard on his left.
What he saw wasn’t what he had expected.
The guards weren’t moving to attack or anything of such, they just turned their head to look at Morden and they didn’t turn back.
The two of them had their eyes locked straight on Morden’s body and it followed every single step he took.
The two guards that hadn’t responded to anyone and hadn’t shown any reaction despite everyone that had been passed by were now staring directly at him and it gave Morden nothing but chills. The biggest point was that the gaze didn’t feel human, it felt extremely different.
Thankfully, except from them just staring at him, they didn’t show any other sign of movement and soon Morden was already out.
on the other side of the gate, Morden felt a lot of pressure come off his shoulder. He couldn’t feel their gaze on him again and he didn’t dare look back to Check.
’Damn that was scary,’
Behind Morden, sounds of moving metal rang out again as the two guards returned their head to their original position but there wasn’t the end.
Upon paying closer attention, one would notice the two of them share a very curt nod.
Outside the gate, Morden scanned the surroundings and he immediately noticed Lisa and Darlus standing by a tree not too far away.
The two of them had made a conscious effort to stay away from the usual track into the forest and stay a little more off the path.
Spotting his teammates, Morden didn’t hesitate, he walked straight towards them with a pensive look on his face and a big question in his mind aimed directly at Lisa.
"What the hell are those?" Morden said with fear written all over him.
Lisa looked at him with a smug smile on her face.
"Those?Those are not human guards,"
"They are.....Guardian Beings of the Omnisphere,"
