Chapter 24: MINIMALIST EXECUTION
Noah Kurtz moved like an invisible ghost through the dim silver light of the subterranean vault.
His boots made no contact with the flagstones as he executed the high-frequency sequence of the Ashen Step, completely erasing his physical friction against the floor. To the ancient security arrays monitoring the room, he didn’t exist as a physical target; he was merely a ripple in the dark.
The lead ten-foot mechanical guardian was still frozen in a state of logic processing error, its crimson visor flickering wildly as it stared at its own shattered executioner broadsword. The kinetic rebound from Jiho Park’s unarmored shoulder had completely destroyed the weapon’s structural integrity, leaving the automaton’s front defense wide open.
Noah closed the ten-meter distance in a single microsecond.
He didn’t pull his newly purchased steel throwing daggers. He didn’t execute a flashy, wide martial arts strike. Instead, he drew his cheap, ten-credit utility knife from his coat loop, his right thumb resting flat along the spine of the blade.
Inside his lower spine, the cultivated thread of Ki surged smoothly, flowing through his meridians and concentrating at the very tip of the steel blade.
Puch.
Noah’s arm slid forward in a minimalist, geometric angle—a precise, effortless thrust that bypassed the guardian’s heavy dark bronze armor plates entirely.
The blade didn’t try to pierce the three-inch iron breastplate. Guided by the weak-point calculations of The Ash-Walker, Noah’s utility knife slipped perfectly into a microscopic, two-millimeter gap beneath the construct’s left shoulder joint—a hidden primary exhaust vent for its kinetic pressure core.
Circulate.
Noah gave the handle a tiny, clockwise twist, releasing a compressed spark of internal Ki straight into the exposed energy pathway.
BOOM.
A muffled internal explosion echoed from deep within the automaton’s chest cavity. The single horizontal crimson visor slit flared brightly once before turning completely pitch-black. The ten-foot mechanical giant lost all hydraulic pressure, its massive iron body collapsing forward and hitting the stone floor with a heavy, metallic crash before going entirely silent.
Noah didn’t pause to watch it fall. He was already sliding across the stone toward the second executioner construct.
The remaining three automatons finally re-calibrated their targeting parameters. The two shield-bearers stepped forward, slamming their towering black steel shields together to form an impenetrable wall of iron, while the second executioner guardian raised its broadsword, swinging it horizontally in a wide, sweeping arc to bisect Noah at the waist.
"Master!" Jiho called out, casually stepping in front of the broadsword’s path while holding his canvas duffel bag over his shoulder.
CLANG.
The six-foot iron blade slammed directly into Jiho’s bare ribcage.
Once again, the absolute boundary of Absolute Inertia held firm. The massive kinetic force generated by the construct’s swing failed instantly against the lazy S-Rank Tank. The iron broadsword snapped at the hilt, sending the shattered blade flying across the vaulted ceiling like shrapnel.
The executioner construct stumbled backward from the kinetic rebound, its hydraulic joint balances completely compromised.
Noah emerged from behind Jiho’s broad back like a phantom.
He lunged upward, his left hand gripping the construct’s exposed neck joint while his right hand drove the utility knife straight into the gap behind its iron visor.
Puch.
A second internal core disruption triggered instantly. The mechanical giant went limp mid-motion, crashing heavily against the stone floor alongside its companion.
The two remaining shield-bearing automatons let out a high-pitched, synthetic siren whine, their internal logic matrices recognizing that their physical offensive protocols had completely failed against the intruders. They lowered their massive black steel shields, bracing their ten-foot frames against the stone flagstones to form an absolute defensive barricade before the sealed central gate.
"Master," Jiho yawned, scratching his stomach as he walked up beside Noah. "Those two tin cans look like they’re trying to play door guard. Want me to throw my bag at them?"
"No need," Noah replied softly, wiping a tiny smear of oil from his utility knife before slipping it back into his coat. "Their defensive stance locks their weight distribution forward. They can’t cover their upper structural anchors."
Noah reached inside his coat lining, his steady fingers wrapping around the hilt of one of his newly purchased plain steel throwing daggers.
He didn’t draw upon raw mana. Instead, he drew a deep, rhythmic breath, guiding a fine thread of Ki down his arm and wrapping it around the iron tang of the blade, perfectly balancing its aerodynamic weight.
Noah flicked his wrist.
WHIRR.
The black steel dagger flew through the dark vault with terrifying velocity, spinning silently through the air before striking a microscopic, exposed mechanical pulley above the left shield-bearer’s shoulder joint.
CRACK.
The precision impact severed the hydraulic tension cable holding the three-inch black steel shield. The massive shield instantly detached from the guardian’s arm, slamming heavily onto the stone floor and leaving the construct’s upper torso completely exposed.
Before the mechanical unit could adjust its stance, Noah executed a lightning-fast slip-step, sliding past the fallen shield and driving his second throwing dagger cleanly through the central processing core in its throat.
The third guardian collapsed into inert metal.
The final shield-bearer tried to retreat backward toward the sealed gate, but Jiho Park casually took a step forward and rested his bare palm against the front of its giant shield.
BOOM.
The kinetic force of the construct trying to push against Jiho’s immovable frame caused its own hydraulic legs to buckle, snapping the iron knee joints like toothpicks. The ten-foot automaton fell onto its knees, completely immobilized on the flagstones.
Noah walked up calmly, sliding his utility knife into the base of its helmet to terminate the final signal.
Silence returned to the massive subterranean plaza, broken only by the soft hum of dying energy lines and Jiho’s long, lazy yawning.
In less than three minutes, four ancient mechanical guardians—constructs capable of wiping out a standard A-Rank exploration team—lay completely destroyed across the stone floor, rendered into useless scrap by an invincible human wall and a minimalist executioner.
Jiho looked around the quiet hall, nudging a piece of broken broadsword with his slide sandal.
"Man, Master," Jiho chuckled sleepily. "You really know how to hit where it hurts. You didn’t even break a sweat."
Noah didn’t answer. He retrieved his two throwing daggers from the mechanical scraps, wiping the iron clean before sliding them back into his coat sheaths. His gray eyes turned toward the thirty-foot high iron gate at the end of the plaza.
Now that the security guardians had been neutralized, the three thick, interlocking deadbolts made of dark alloy began to disengage automatically, retreating into the stone doorframes with a heavy, echoing mechanical clank.
CREAK.
The giant iron gate slowly swung inward, revealing a massive, pitch-black central chamber hidden beyond the threshold.
From deep within the dark room, a familiar, ancient resonance flared—a soft, silver glow that hummed in perfect rhythm with the obsidian relic inside Noah’s coat and the infinite library floating within his mind.
DING.

Noah’s steel-gray eyes glinted with a quiet, ancient depth as he stepped across the threshold into the dark chamber, leaving the ruins of the guardians behind.
The past was waiting for him inside.
