Chapter 15: THE COLLAPSE
The subterranean chamber groaned as the first massive fracture split the vaulted ceiling open.
A shower of sharp black stone and pulverized debris rained down into the dark abyss, smashing heavily against the polished obsidian altar. The giant networks of glowing crimson mana veins that had lined the walls began to flicker violently, pulsing chaotically like a dying heart before snapping entirely.
Darkness threatened to swallow the space, illuminated only by the unstable, blinding flashes of purple light radiating from the shattered fragments of the Dungeon Core.
Noah Kurtz didn’t waste a single millisecond staring at the destruction.
His physical body was already screaming in sheer agony, a sharp, white-hot pressure expanding rapidly behind his eyes as the neural backlash of forcing open a Bronze-tier cabinet began tearing at his brain. Blood continued to pour steadily from his nose, staining his upper lip and dripping onto his dark coat, but his gray eyes remained fiercely focused.
He lunged forward, his hand plunging directly into the scattering pile of ash that had once been the eight-foot-tall Ghoul Chieftain.
His fingers brushed against a dense, unnaturally cold object buried deep within the dark gray dust. Without looking, he gripped it tightly and shoved it straight into his inner pocket alongside the lower-grade essence stones.
It was the mutated Chieftain’s core.
A loud, thunderous boom echoed throughout the chamber as one of the massive geometric basalt pillars snapped cleanly at the base, tilting lazily before crashing directly into the stone steps of the altar.
The ground beneath Noah’s feet shattered.
"Move..." he growled to himself, his voice sounding entirely raspy and strained as he forced his staggering body to lock down into a balanced posture.
He didn’t run like an ordinary human.
Circulate.
He pushed every single residual drop of his internal Ki downward, forcing the volatile energy straight into the marrow channels of his calves and feet. The high-frequency, silent vibration of the Ashen Step erupted through his lower muscles with twice the intensity of before, numbing the pain in his legs completely.
Noah sprang forward, launching his frame across the collapsing obsidian steps just as the entire altar structure collapsed into a whirlpool of falling stone.
He hit the flagstones of the main corridor in a low, sliding roll.
The air inside the catacomb was becoming completely unbreathable, filled with a dense, choking tide of burning sulfur and thick stone dust that blinded his vision. Behind him, the spatial walls of the entire chamber were actively folding inward, a terrifying invisible vacuum pressure swallowing the matter of the dungeon like a black hole.
DING.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
[CRITICAL WARNING: Spatial Boundary Collapse at 89%]

[Estimated Time Until Absolute Implosion: 42 Seconds]
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
The crimson-bordered notification flashed across his spinning vision, but Noah completely ignored it.
He bolted down the narrow, twisting stone corridor, his dark coat flying wildly behind his back as his body blurred past the giant columns. The Ashen Step worked flawlessly, his boots skimming across the thick layers of dark moss and uneven stone without causing a single vibration or sound in the physical environment.
Even in the middle of a catastrophic spatial collapse, the metric tracker on his system interface remained entirely flat. To the International Hunter Association’s external monitoring servers, Noah Kurtz was still registered as nothing more than a slow, uncoordinated F-rank porter shuffling through the entrance zone.
He was a ghost running through a falling world.
Crash.
A massive block of carved basalt detached from the ceiling directly ahead, slamming into the corridor floor with a force that sent a violent shockwave through the ground. The path was completely blocked.
Noah didn’t slide to a halt. He didn’t look for an alternative route.
His eyes locked onto a narrow, jagged horizontal fracture line running along the side of the stone wall right next to the blockage—a structural stress point that his integrated Ash-Walker instincts identified instantly.
He shifted his weight in full motion, his foot hitting the vertical surface of the wall at a sharp, geometric angle.
Circulate.
With a sudden, explosive release of his internal energy, he ran directly across the vertical brickwork, his body horizontal to the ground for three fluid paces before he launched himself off the surface, clearing the entire fallen basalt pile smoothly.
He landed cleanly on the other side, his posture lowering immediately to absorb the kinetic shock before resuming his sprint.
The neural agony in his head was reaching a breaking point. It felt like a thousand jagged needles were actively turning inside his brain, a direct penalty for exploiting his hidden system identity to bypass the Wood-tier constraints of the archive.
His vision began to blur with dark, overlapping static lines.
"Not... yet..." Noah muttered through gritted teeth, a weak cough of blood escaping his lips as he rounded the final corner of the catacomb.
Ahead of him, the entrance gate appeared through the thick clouds of dust.
The spinning vortex of translucent gray mist was no longer stable. It was warped, twisting into a jagged, violent oval shape as the dimensional energy lines bled out into the surrounding stone. The automated validation terminal beside the turnstile was sparking chaotically, its holographic interface flickering red with multiple system errors.
The spatial boundary was literally tearing itself apart.
Noah closed the distance in a single, desperate bound, utilizing the absolute limit of his Ashen Step to glide across the final ten meters of collapsing flagstones.
Just as his boots left the stone, the entire corridor behind him completely dissolved into an absolute, pitch-black vacuum.
He plunged headfirst into the twisting gray mist.
The spatial transition slammed into his physical vessel with the brutal, grinding weight of a hydraulic press, twisting his senses and compressing his lungs until he couldn’t breathe.
Then, the pressure vanished instantly.
BANG.
Noah’s body flew out of the gray mist, crashing heavily onto the cold gravel yard of the Sector 21 Industrial Dead Zone. He rolled several times across the damp ground, his frame hitting a rusted iron cargo container before finally coming to a complete halt.
Behind him, a deep, heavy sound echoed through the night air as the gray spatial vortex shrunk into a microscopic point of light before vanishing completely into nothingness.
The dungeon had imploded.
Noah lay flat on his back, his breath coming out in ragged, uneven gasps as the cool midnight wind rushed past his face. The metallic scent of industrial grease and stale rain felt incredibly grounded compared to the suffocating sulfur of the catacomb.
He didn’t move for several minutes, allowing his thundering heartbeat to slowly stabilize beneath his ribs.
Thump.
Thump.
Thump.
Alive.
Noah slowly dragged a trembling hand across his pale face, wiping away the cold sweat and blood that had smeared across his skin. The intense, sharp needles behind his eyes were finally beginning to recede, leaving behind a dull, persistent ache that vibrated through his skull.
He slowly sat upright, his boots scraping softly against the gravel as he pulled his dark coat tighter around his lean physique.
He reached into his inner pockets, his fingers checking the loot he had secured. The three low-grade blue essence stones were safe. And right beside them, the fist-sized, dark purple crystal of the mutated Ghoul Chieftain rested against his chest, radiating a faint, icy frequency that caused his Ki to pulse naturally.
Noah looked down at his cracked holographic terminal on his wrist.
The automated server log from the Hunter Association popped into existence, glowing with a soft, pale blue light in the dark industrial yard.
[Association Freelance Server Log]
Mission Status: Concluded (Dungeon Unreachable)
Registered Porter Kinetic Output: 410 Newtons (Average Civilian Status)
Final Status: Cleared for baseline minimum credit payout (1,500 Credits)
A dry, quiet laugh escaped Noah’s throat as he read the screen, a faint, melancholic smile touching his lips.
The automated tracking servers had recorded absolutely nothing. To the entire modern world, he was just an incredibly lucky, incompetent F-rank worker who had managed to stumble out of a collapsing dungeon right before it implode, entirely by accident.
He slowly stood up from the gravel, his muscles stiff but completely unharmed as he adjusted his dark coat.
He turned his gaze toward the distant, glowing horizon of Sentinel City, where the massive skyscrapers and holographic advertisements painted the red sky in streams of neon light. The city looked beautiful from here—cold, distant, and completely unaware of the anomaly that had just walked out of the dark.
Noah shoved his hands deep into his pockets, his posture returning to a slight, relaxed slouch to maintain the perfect illusion of an ordinary, exhausted twenty-two-year-old citizen.
The first arc of his long journey through this cycle was officially over. He had a preliminary license, a method to mask his movements, and the first true multi-power systems initializing deep within his infinite archive.
He began walking toward the outer perimeter turnstile, disappearing quietly into the dark shadows of the industrial dead zone alone.
