Chapter 449: Surprise
On the other hand, Kate and Lina got to the headquarters of NEXUS. Initially, the process of officially joining the organization was supposed to be a little complicated.
They were required to undergo several assessments, to see if they possessed different types of skills, so that it would be decided if they would occasionally help the other branches.
But because of the changes that were happening all over the world, the entire organization had changed. While the other two auxiliary branches were not disbanded, they were no longer playing a very important role as before.
This time, most of the focus was on the combat branch, as they were the ones that were bound to take action more frequently. They, among other organizations from different nations, were part of those that were supposed to maintain order after the distribution of the mutation serums.
Because they were mutants, especially the strong ones, they would be the ones to make sure that those new mutants would behave. If they did not, of course, those mutants would be immediately taken into custody.
Of course, there was yet another organization that was formed. This organization had no national borders. It could be joined by any mutant from all over the world.
It was just that it prioritized the police, those that were part of the military, or other secret forces from the government. They all joined together form a single military unit, the Global Security Force.
The role of this newly established department was surveillance, protection and law enforcement.
Just like how NEXUS was organized, there would be several branches within that department itself.
Of course, for the time being, those that would play the biggest role would be those from the combat branch. After all, they would be stationed in different parts of the world, so that the moment that a mutant takes action, they would be able to quickly respond.
Obviously, they could not allow mutants to run rampant for a long time. That could easily lead to loss of many lives, something that the alliance was trying to avoid.
Anyway, the moment that Kate and Lina completed the onboarding, and officially became members of this newly formed Global Security Force, they were to be assigned.
At the moment, most of the people had already been assigned to different parts of the world. It was not strange to find that someone was assigned to what was previously another nation.
Of course, most of the assignments were maintained so that, most of the mutants from this new organization would remain in their familiar environment.
Unfortunately, some people would have to be transferred to other areas that did not have enough mutants.
Kate and Lina were assigned to the same city. It was just that, it was not Brenton city, or Danvill, the former capital city. Instead, it was a city that was located in the Western province.
Of course, the moment that Michael got the information about where Kate was assigned, he immediately asked Onyx to do something. Quite easily, Onyx was able to manipulate the AI that was in charge of the assignments.
So, before the official order was released, on where they would be dispatched, Onyx had already changed their destination.
Therefore, just one day after Kate and Lina had left, they came back to Danvill city.
The moment that she came back, Kate immediately went to look for Michael, who was training in the villa. She was excited, as she was not assigned somewhere else.
Still, she kind of guessed that this might be related to Michael’s influence. Therefore, she felt sweet that Michael wanted her to be close to him.
In her excitement, she decided to train for a little while with Michael. Of course, while only a short 2 hours had gone by outside, with the time inside the training chamber moving at 30 times the speed outside, it was a total of 60 hours.
By the time that the two of them left the villa, both of them had seen some significant improvement in terms of their strength. That was especially for Kate, because she had a lot of room for improvement.
The moment that they arrived at the mansion, Kate was dumbfounded. She looked at her mother, not sure how she was supposed to react.
She had basically not expected her mother to be here. At the same time, she felt a little embarrassed, because ever since she returned from the training camp, she had not spent much time with her mother.
Because of the excitement that she had about getting into a relationship, she had spent most of the time with Michael. Of course, her mother was not against this, and in fact, she was pushing for Kate to spend more time with Michael.
The reason behind this being that, having seen her daughter so much obsessed for many years, she was always hurt. But now, she could see, with Michael, Kate was always happy.
Therefore, because she wanted Kate to be happy, she always wanted her to be together with Michael. Additionally, Olivia believed that Kate would have a better future if she was together with Michael.
"Mom, what are you doing here?! Why did you not tell me that you were coming over?" Kate eventually asked in a mix of surprise and confusion.
"What? You don’t want me here? Maybe, are you having such a good time with your boyfriend, that you don’t want your mother anymore?" Olivia asked with a teasing smile.
Kate was immediately rendered speechless, as she felt shy and embarrassed. "Mom, what are you saying? I was at actually planning to come and see you tomorrow."
"Oh, really? From the way that I see you, it feels like you just made that up right now." Olivia asked with slightly raised brows.
"Of course, that was what I planned. Today, I just returned from officially joining the Global Security Force, the new organization that has been formed. You know, after the changes that are bound to happen soon, there were some changes with the training program that I was previously undergoing." Kate responded as she nodded.
Because of the confidential agreement that she had signed back at NEXUS’s training camp, she could not reveal about the information on the organization. Therefore, she maintained the same information that Olivia and the others knew.
When joining NEXUS training camp, it was organized so that it was said that she was going out for specialized training arranged by the police department.
The moment that Kate mentioned about the changes, Olivia’s expression became a little grim.
She looked at Michael, revealing a gentle smile as she said, "Thank you so much, Michael. If not for the arrangements that you have made for us, I’m not really sure what would have happened later on."
"What?! Michael, you are the one who made the arrangements for my mom to come over? Why did you not tell me in advance?" Kate exclaimed as she incredulously looked at Michael.
"I just wanted to give you a little surprise. Do you like it?" Michael shrugged as he responded to her.
Then, he looked at Olivia and said, "There is no need to worry about that. We are eventually going to be one family. So of course, I have to ensure your safety, because you really matter to Kate. If something happens to you, she will definitely not be happy about it. And I can’t bear to see her sad."
Olivia smiled as she felt that Kate was quite lucky. From initially having an arranged engagement with someone who did not have a good character, to suddenly getting someone this good, her fortune was really good.
"Okay, I will leave the two of you to talk for a while. I will go out and make some more arrangements for something else." Michael said before he left the two ladies.
Immediately after he left, he called Benson, the bio human that was in charge of Vanguard Corporation. He informed him to make more arrangements, especially when it came to acquiring some houses.
And just a few minutes later, Michael was left dumbfounded. It turned out that this guy went ahead and acquired an entire residential community.
Thinking about it, Michael realized that it was much more efficient this way. If he could arrange for all the people that he wanted to bring over to live in the same place, it would be easy to be able to have them settle.
Additionally, the residential community that Benson had acquired was not far from the mansion’s location. Therefore, it was only just a trip that would take a few minutes in order to be able to get there.
With everything sorted out, Michael began making calls. First of all, hey informed Benjamin to make arrangements for old John and the rest to come over to Danvill city.
As for the business, Benjamin could continue running it. But in case he encountered a problem, he could simply ask Michael for help.
Then, Michael also made arrangements for the Morgan family. He arranged for most of the core members of the family to come over as well. As for the business, he arranged for a bio human to take over for now.
Michael wanted to ensure that those that acquired abilities would be familiar with them, before they decide on what to do. They could decide to continue staying here in Danvill, or they could decide to go back.
Just like that, on the following day, several people boarded the private jets that he had arranged for them. Some of them did not know each other, but boarded the same plane, and they began getting familiar with each other along the way.
A few hours later, they finally arrived in Danvill city, meeting Michael.
