Chapter 439: Departure, Kate’s Worries
Alex and the rest of the group spent an entire week in the capital, enjoying themselves. Even though Michael did not accompany them all the time, they had Henry.
With someone who was familiar with the capital, it was much easy for Alex and the others to have fun. And to say the least, they did not want to leave.
But of course, they had self-awareness. While they were sure that Michael would not mind hosting them for even a month, they did not want to continue imposing on him.
Therefore, after a week of fun in the capital, they finally decided that it was time for them to go back. Moreover, some of them had left things pending back in Brenton city, hence, they could not continue being so carefree.
Despite the reluctance, they finally left. With the departure of the group, the mansion that had been lively for an entire week was once again silent.
Michael had kind of gotten used to the lively atmosphere of the mansion, but now, looking at the mansion that was now empty, he could only sigh.
It could be said that he did not have many friends. The few friends that he had, they were the ones who had just left. As for here in the capital, he had not interacted with the younger generation.
Even though he had clashed with a few of them, apart from the day of the auction, they did not meet again. And for some reason, Michael began feeling a little lonely.
That was mainly because, after experiencing life with people to have fun with, people of the same age group, sharing some of the interests, being alone, he could not get used to it that quickly.
Additionally, most of the time, Kate was out, because of NEXUS. Michael could not expect her to always be around him. She had a life to live, and could not just live according to his wishes.
Lying on the couch in his room, Michael was contemplating on what to do next. It had already been a few hours since Alex and the rest of the group had left, and he had been on the couch this entire time.
Just then, the door of his room opened, and Kate walked in. Michael looked over, slightly surprised. He had not anticipated that Kate would come back this early.
Usually, after she left in the morning, she would come back in the evening. This had been ongoing for almost a week now, so, Michael was already getting used to that routine.
But with her coming back, he could not help but wonder if something had happened.
Kate did not say anything, as she came over, and lay on the couch. But because Michael was already lying on it, she lay on top of him.
Michael reacted by wrapping his hands around her, inhaling her scent. Though, he was wondering, what could have happened to make Kate act like this. She was usually kind of shy, and it was rare for her to act like this.
"Something on your mind?" Michael asked a few moments later.
"Ha! Yeah. I’m a little worried." Kate sighed as she responded.
With a little frown on his face, Michael asked, "Tell me, what is it? Maybe I could have a solution to it."
Kate shook her head as she said, "It is about me. I’m just worried about the future. I was recently informed about what we should be expecting in the next few days to a few months.
According to team leader Alex, it seems that mutant activity is going to increase in the next few days to a few months. The exact timeline is not yet clear for the time being, but we should anticipate seeing mutants appearing everywhere.
According to Alex, it seems that there are stronger mutants than even the commander of NEXUS, Richard. That is something that scares me.
What will I do if mutants decide to target us? What if they target my family? You know, I cannot always protect them, as I cannot be beside everyone all the time."
Michael immediately understood what was worrying her. Clearly, NEXUS had already gotten the information about the other force that was against the alliance.
If he had not decided to help out the alliance, it was to be expected that in the next few days or so, the rate of mutant activity would drastically increase.
It would not be a surprise to see governments being overturned, and the military being completely helped us against the mutants.
With some of the abilities that the mutants possessed, it would not be easy to be able to take them down with just bullets.
For example, the advanced telekinesis ability that Michael possessed, basically, he could create a shield around himself, something that the bullets could not penetrate.
Of course, Michael’s ability was way too overpowered. But even then, there were other abilities that were just as incredible. Thereby, it might be impossible for some soldiers, who were just ordinary people, to be able to deal with those mutants.
Still, with his intervention, Michael believed that within a week, everything would be taken care of. The expected chaos would not happen as many people anticipated.
Of course, that did not imply that there would be no turmoil. Michael had already decided to transform this world, as a form of preparation.
They did not know what existed in the outer space. It could be an ally, and it could be an enemy. If it was an enemy, if they were strong enough, maybe, they would be capable of dealing with them.
Even if they were friendly, only by having strength of the same level or even higher than them, would the humans on this planet be able to get what they deserved, not what they were granted.
Michael had heard about situations where people who talked about science fiction movies. The issue about alien invasion was not new.
There was mostly horror with the alien invasions, with less good news. Michael did not want to experience a situation where humans were treated as livestock by some aliens.
The life that he had experienced after he lost his parents, he did not want to experience it yet again. Therefore, he could only start making early preparations.
In fact, he was not sure if he was early, or if the aliens would suddenly attack in the next minute. Therefore, the stronger they became, the better it was.
Even as he thought about this, he responded to Kate, "You don’t need to worry. I will make arrangements. Someone’s safety is always better if they themselves are strong. So, I will arrange for them to receive a mutation serum each."
Kate was startled when she heard that. Then, she felt excited. But in the next moment, she shook her head as she said, "That will be too expensive. Ever since I came to know about the mutation serum, I know that it is not that easy to be able to get them.
Additionally, we are not engaged, not to mention married. Therefore, I really cannot accept you spending so much for me, when I’m not sure how I will be able to repay you."
Kate had her own pride. Even though the pride itself had been lowered ever since she got together with Michael, it was still there. She had already received Michael’s assistance many time, and she really could not accept any more.
From her perspective, she believed that a relationship was supposed to be the same as a partnership. Therefore, it would not be good if only one partner was the one giving, while the other one was just receiving.
She at least needed to contribute something. And at the moment, considering the wealth that Michael had, the strength that he possessed, there really was not much that she could do for him.
Because of this, she had always been thinking of getting stronger, so that she could help out in the future. The probability of her being stronger than him, she felt that it was very small. But no matter what, as long as she could help, it would be much better than doing nothing.
When she was mentioning about her worries to Michael, she was just sharing. In fact, she did not come with the intention of asking for help from Michael. She just felt that he was the only person that she could tell her worries to.
Unexpectedly, Michael had offered to help. She knew that he could, but she did not want him to do it. At least, considering the cost, it was too much for her to accept.
Even if it was treated as a bride price, she felt that she was not worth that much.
"What are you talking about? You know, to me, it is about how you feel that I care about. Even if I have to spend a lot of money to make sure of that, it would not pain me in the slightest.
But I will definitely not be happy if you are sad. If something happens to your family, you will definitely be sad. And that is not something that I want to see." Michael shook his head as he said.
Then, before Kate could say anything, he continued, "There is no need to worry about anything. You are my woman, so, there is no need to keep accounts between us. Whatever I give you, just to take without much thought about it."
Michael was just about to continue talking when suddenly, he received a notification from the system. It was the notification that he had been awaiting for over two weeks now.
